Would I like my favourite girls to all go off and make their own content only? Hell no! Would I blame them for doing that, being their own boss, keeping money from their own content? No I wouldn’t. Women are the VIP’s of the porn industry but are often treated like shit both physically and financially when working for others.
They can make fetish content on fan sites which major studios would never release and charge a premium for it as it is unique stuff you can’t get anywhere else. They can also charge hundreds or thousands for custom scenes where fans get to choose what they do in the scene. This thing about shaky cam and mobile phones is nonsense as well. It may be the case for rank amateurs but anyone who really focuses on this stuff as their career now use decent quality equipment. Some are able to make very good money too. More than they’d ever make from mainstream porn. It’s hard work though setting up your own shoots, buying all the lights, cameras, finding guys/girls to shoot with if you’re not a couple, editing the scene yourself, uploading it to the fan sites, advertising it to your fans, chatting to them in the sites or on twitter. It’s a full time commitment and a lot more work than just turning up to an arranged mainstream shoot, shooting the scene, getting paid and going home. Not every pornstar would want to do all that work.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of crap out there and I rarely subscribe to anyone’s page but there are occasionally instances where there is content that is only available on fan sites or clip sites and I have paid for individual scenes. For example, if people like their taboo scenes without the step element, the mainstream sites stopped allowing it years ago. The only place to get it was clip sites like Manyvids, Clips4Sale and eventually onlyfans and stuff like that. At one time you’d only really see US porn stars doing piss content or puke content on clip sites and onlyfans. The fan sites now though are starting to clamp down on more taboo content now too. Onlyfans has closed loads of girls pages down, clip sites have added more and more of the restrictions we see in mainstream porn. The girls who want to perform this fetish content are being pushed further and further into the outer reaches of the internet, even just selling stuff directly over email catalogues.
In answer to the question then, as mainstream porn becomes more and more vanilla and restricted in terms of what people are allowed to watch, fan sites are needed for those who want something else. Not necessarily something extreme either, just something mainstream porn doesn’t cater to.
My interests and money goes mainly on VR porn these days though so, unless these girls are able to shoot high quality VR clips on their sites, which will probably never happen, they won’t be getting a ton of my money.
