VRXVR Yes, although Canon RF 5.2mm is not the best to work with, but it was a big deal in its time because of its use of a single sensor that can provide 8K @60FPS with very high bitrate.

VR Porn Studios in particular, was using 2 different cameras at that time to achieve high resolutions of 7K+

The high resolution single sensor in the Canon RF 5.2mm simplified the process of capturing 8K stereoscopic videos, as both sides now have perfectly matched alignment, color grading, brightness and focus. Unlike when using 2 different cameras.

Is this why some VR live streams (dreamcam, SLR) have a difference in focus or colour between the 2 lenses? Maybe just older generation VR livecams or all

The hardware of the VR livecams are super difficult to find

so short answer, will we benefit from the new camera if we have a meta3, or do we all have to go out and buy some $2k rig to benefit from it? This sorta stuff isnt my thing, im curious your opinion. You seem to know much more about it than me

harigeharry I cant keep up on all the latest vr headsets coming out. Ive been happy with my meta3, some say this apple vision is the Cadillac. I wouldnt know. And if I saved up for a AVP by then you are saying samsung has something fancy coming out? Hard to keep up on, maybe start your own discussion on here if you like, listing a few of the latest VR headsets soon the be released (or currently released) in clear bullets or something and I will follow it

VRXVR same with you. you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on this sorta stuff, I need a clear discussion I can follow on here if you want to start one that shows the latest and soon to be released vr headsets

The guy with the hat may be the first person on record having said put it back in in front of this camera (at 1:50).

jommy More complicated than this. In addition to being old generation VR Cams as you said, there are other factors that can cause these issues to VR Webcams like:

1- Defected from long time use.
2- Not identically calibrated out of the box.
3- Most of these budget old 4K VR Webcams (3840x1920 @30 FPS @160° FOV) are using cheap image sensors that can be defected overtime. Also they are of poor performance to handle both low light and high light conditions, so you need pretty balanced/ ideal lighting condition for them to work optimally without causing visual artifacts like the ones we mentioned previously.

Fortunately, Dreamcam started to provide 6K VR Cams to performers like "Mandi4pole" and I really hope they will replace all of these awful old 4K VR Webcams for all the performers, since this newer 6K VR Webcam image is really very good in terms of visual clarity, scale, focus and vivid colors.

And you're right, VR Webcams are still a super niche market.

sogman Absolutely. Although, Quest 3 maximum video decoding is 8192x4096px @60FPS (when it comes to 60FPS which is the minimum we need for VR Videos).

You'll still have better video quality on your Quest 3 when watching videos produced by this 16K VR camera. For 2 main reasons:

1- The RAW video itself produced from this VR Camera is very high quality out of the box EVEN if they shoot it at 8K @60FPS because of its use of new and advanced image sensors that will provide better video quality from sharpness to colors compared to other VR Cams to put it simply.

2- If they shoot in 16K then Supersampled it to 8K @60FPS, you'll have a sharper image than native 8K @60FPS produced from this VR Cam and from other VR Cams.

But of course, the best is when we have future VR headsets capable of decoding 16K @60FPS to have this impressive native resolution of this VR Camera. And we have to be very patience until that happens.

sogman First of all, I don't recommend you to invest in AVP if you plan to use it for video consumption mainly, because it uses the M2 chip which lacks support of AV1 hardware decoding (Most of future videos will use it for better quality).

Personally, the only big deal about AVP is its high resolution OLED screens, other than that I don't have any interest in it because of its closed ecosystem which limits what you can do in VR.

And for the "Spatial Video" format they are trying to push, which is the SAME Stereoscopic videos we have for more that 100 years (It's just a flat video with depth ONLY) it lacks both immersive FOV and real life scale for characters and objects we used to love in VR Videos. In other words, it's an older tech than VR and it's not better or more enjoyable.

As for the upcoming VR headsets, here you go (To make things more organized):

VRXVR once DeoVR makes it to the AVP it's going to be the best visuals headset.

It's still giving troubles with how they've made dev part work, but visuals are killing it

doublevr Sorry, didn't get a notification about your reply, just saw it now. I almost replied to @fenderwq about the same thing! Damn! Lol!
So, to not spam this post, please read my last reply on "Upcoming VR Headsets" post. We can continue from there if you're interested.
              Apologies again, I don't know why I didn't get a notification.

              VRXVR

I noticed 1 studio upgraded all of their VR cameras within the past week so there is some kind of progress happening - not sure if dreamcam helped motivate them or what

I wish dreamcam released the specs like sensor info of the cams

                Glokta

Damn I was hoping it would be hands-on with his own bought URSA

How much longer do we wait?!

jommy At least some more info, such as fixed IPD of 64mm

Glokta 64mm is an ideal IAD (inter-axial distance) for VR Cameras when it comes to real life scale for characters and objects, even if it's fixed and not adjustable "I'm hopeful here".

                    21 days later

Glokta the first scene won't be coming out earlier than Sept. we need to put the whole pipeline together
