  • Downloads plan revamp

Silly-Sausage
I've been active on the forums for 3 years and the switch from PC/VR to Quest3/DeoVR is when downloads became less of a concern for me. I now fall in the camp of not noticing because I can stream uninterruptedly without loading issues unlike before which was my original need for downloading. Data insights show Quest 2 and 3 are majority of headset users and SLR Streaming vs Downloads data paints a picture of how much regular users would be affected.

In my opinion, even just one download per day is better than no downloads at all; possibilities still exist. Because I no longer use PC/VR and instead upgraded to Quest3/DeoVR which makes it possible to lay down watching vrporn, I plan on downloading one or two videos a day from either sub to my PC and then uploading them to my future SLR Drive to stream on my Quest3. I don't know what their download limits are, but I would imagine I fall on the reasonable side. If any of them remove the option, that's the end of my several years sub.

I feel like you should make an "unlimited download" tier, and price it accordingly.
But I agree it should be a "pay per use" type of thing, kind of like toll roads.

lukcybro87 might be an option for a privileged few

Might be a good time to introduce that SLR Miles High Club loyalty program

doublevr Honestly, I saw this coming, just wasn't sure how or when. SLR has been taking smaller steps compared to VRB, who made a huge move by completely removing the download button. The goal is the same though, pushing people to use the app by streaming.

I just wanted to ask @doublevr, help me see things clearer, let's say in a year from now, you have 100% streaming users and 0 download allocations per month. How does this benefit your company beyond just 'collecting data'? Because personally, SLR is my favorite VR site and I do want to see it more successful, more success means better content for us.

[deleted] I think 100% removal of downloads like VRB did is a terrible idea. But 30/40/50 downloads a months plus extra when you stream for a few minutes… I personally don’t understand how some people are grabbing pitchforks over this. I think I download ALOT and I don’t reach this limit. The time it takes to download and storage space alone would not allow me to reach these limits.

I feel I am missing something as to why this amount of downloads per month is low. Or everyone just has 100TB of storage 10x fiber optics download speed

        xeddin1 I think I download ALOT and I don’t reach this limit.

Then you're not downloading a lot.

xeddin1 I feel I am missing something as to why this amount of downloads per month is low. Or everyone just has 100TB of storage 10x fiber optics download speed

If you primarily stream then you wouldn't understand.

xeddin1 Currently I'm not downloading a lot as I'm mostly living at my partner's place. Streaming works ok for me here (when she's not around) but when at my own place I can and will easily download 100+ videos/month to my NAS server and sort them into folders, tags, etc.

Setting a limit at 30 or so a month wouldn't work for me as I much prefer my solution. Besides I don't get that I (a loyal subscriber) has to be limited because of others misuse.

Anyway I'll see how it goes and then nake my choice then.

xeddin1 Believe me, storage was never an issue for people. I had 5 hard drives, each with 4TB, all packed with VR content I loved or wanted to watch in the future from various sites I subbed to (no flat scenes). Last week, I bought another 5TB drive specifically for VRBangers. Looks like I'll need to get another one for SLR now!

xeddin1 I see you joined this forum about 12 days ago, around the time VRB removed downloads. So, you're probably one of their pawns or even one of SLR's (high chance you're doublevr himself). But here's the thing, I have 100mbit/s internet speed, which is enough to send emails and Zoom sessions for work I have no plans in making it faster, but it's not suitable for streaming 6k/8k VR content (4k works fine).

I'm a lifetime subscriber to VRB, but now I can't watch their content after they removed downloads. I'm glad somebody made that extension, which helped me use my 20 downloads/day for the last 10 days to fill up that hard drive.

going to make sure loyal customers are not affected.

I joined the forums a few weeks ago because I am interested in making PMV content. Check out the links below for some of my work. Will have to do some research for storage, right now I’m using a thumb drive which is not the best option

xeddin1 I know, I've seen your posts and the threads you've made since you joined. That's the easiest story and bio SLR could come up with for a disguised agent. Maybe your career plan, resume, and personality are still written on a whiteboard in their office, even your Discord username...lol

Anyway, it doesn't matter. You don't have to prove anything to me or answer my conspiracy theories. Just help me understand how lowering the downloads per month benefits SLR.

                [deleted]
From the brief amount I’ve read, the main issue seems to be people signing up for a single month and downloading essentially the entire catalogue. This is further supported by the updates to this thread which to me shows SLR is targeting these individuals.

                What’s wrong with my discord?

xeddin1 don't waste your time. Some people are worthless to let them take any minute of your time.

Connect with those on the bright side

If downloads were removed entirely I’d be upset, but that’s clearly not the case. I’m in no position to judge, I’m just another loser posting on a porn forum after all….but if some of you guys are really downloading THAT much porn….please find some additional hobbies or things to be passionate about. I say this out of genuine concern as someone who admittedly also overindulges in my porn consumption at times. Your sex drive will diminish as you get older and at the end of the day you can’t take your downloads with you when you die. 😅. Why are you hoarding so much porn?

                      Jeef
Exactly. People freaking out over being capped at like 50 downloads a month. Maybe I’m missing something but in reality I think people cry just to cry or they cry because they are the hoarders trying to have an entire website downloaded on a thumbdrive

As a user since 2020, I've already downloaded everything I'm interested in and just top up as good scenes come in - which is not many TBH. So far in June it's 10 scenes. So while newer users who are still discovering old and new content will be affected by download limits, I won't be - yet. My only hesitation with the policy is 1) download limits only go down, not up, so one day I may be affected and 2) if users leave in protest then that leaves less revenue to create new content. We all want SLR to flourish 💪

xeddin1 There's nothing wrong with your username just said it's probably still written in the whiteboard in SLR's office, or meeting room. Just move on

Let's say I have all the content on SLR, including SLROs and other studio content, so I don't need a membership, right? What keeps me subscribed to SLR is new, great content. I bought a yearly membership in September 2022, followed by a monthly one in November 2023 (and a few monthlies before that). Since December 2023, when the monthly production of SLROs was reduced, I transferred my membership to VRSpy, which I believe is owned by SLR or AlexNash. My renewable monthly membership has continued until now.

What's keeping me there is that I'm already subscribed to most of the VR studios, so I don't need SLR's entire library, especially since they don't own POVR studios' new content. Plus, there was a downgrade in SLR models, and I can barely count 5 SLRO scenes I'd like to watch. But I stay with VRSpy because I like 95% of their scenes and want to watch them on the day of release, and here I'm will be enjoying Chloe Surreal tomorrow. So, reducing downloads per month won't keep me subscribed.

How else do you think this can benefit SLR?

                          [deleted]

Based on what you said, you seem unhappy with some of the newer content. I can't completely fault you, but this is not anything new to VR porn. I am also subd to most of them and feel they come out with a good one every 6-7 releases (need more big titted models).

How does this benefit SLR? I don't know, but I doubt they are doing it just to say "fuck you haha". It's a business, and someone or a team said "We are losing out on money because of XYZ". So how does it benefit SLR? Money I would say is a fair guess.

But what you said shows it doesn't even matter if there is a cap on downloadable content because most of the newer stuff coming out isn't of interest to you. So how does this proposed download cap negatively effect you?
