Downloads plan revamp
xeddin1 Unfortunately that's not how this works. Benefits only get eroded and not the other way around.
The problem here for me is that every year we get one or more posts like this further limiting downloads and it's very obvious SLR wants to force people into streaming and DeoVR. I don't even really care about the actual suggested limitations (I won't hit them) but I very much care about this trend of SLR trying to dictate how it's consumers should consume their content and trying to steadily coerce the market into a streaming only reality.
Why is it so much to ask to just be able to consume porn the way you want on the player you want? I mean, SLR is my favorite site and they have a lot of content and a good player so you can almost overlook what you are giving up by just ignoring these gradual changes but just look at the VR Banges fiasco. They have a crap player and if we wouldn't have a download workaround we would be forced to use it.
That's my problem here. It's the trend / bigger picture what worries me not so much what is suggested in this post. We've heard it all before. This will be the last change, it won't change any further only to have another one of these posts half a year later. Also, it's not just the download limits, it's about making essential features streaming only, severely limiting scripts downloads for people with a scripts sub, closing down the API to competing players, etc.
The danger is that many people feel like: streaming is okay for me or I don't download that much anyways. But it's not about that, it's about companies limiting your rights gradually and lulling you a sleep with an adequate streaming experience and the convenience thereof. At some point though people will be rudely awoken when a decision is made that impacts them personally making them realize all the things they gave up in the process.
You want to reward loyalty?
Give lifetime members access to scenes that are no longer available as if we purchased them because there's so many scenes that we no longer have access to because we never purchased them since we already purchased the lifetime membership.
fenderwq Why is it so much to ask to just be able to consume porn the way you want on the player you want?
I am starting to think that all the gradual cuts and reductions and things being taken away from users that are happening everywhere are an indicator of how the overall VR porn industry is doing. I think we have entered now an era post peak VR porn. Q3 is on the market for 9 months, AVP turned out to be irrelevant for porn, no further game-changers on the horizon. VR porn didn't become the future of porn for everyone, there is no more growth to be expected, so all that companies can do now is to stop pleasing everyone and to compensate the lack of growth by cutting costs and losses.
SteveSteve I don't think SLR can do that. The creators own the rights to the content and they can pull their content off the SLR platform whenever they want.

Definitely what I find frustrating
When I first signed up to SLR I downloaded a lot of videos but since my unRAID server has filled up I haven't in a while, but when I add more drives it's gonna suck if there are tiny limits again since there's a backlog of files I want to keep
Just about any video can be removed from SLR with little to no warning, and as someone that's been on the internet quite a while, data conservation is necessary for things we like
I'll wait to see what the actual new limits are going to be for older users but any decrease is bad imo
SchnuppiLilac I don't know, VR definitely hasn't taken off in the way I would have expected it yet (I honestly don't get why people are still jerking it to porn hub) but I do believe VR as a whole has the potential to truly take off once hardware catches up enough to make VR experiences truly lifelike but also easily accessible (things like, displays, GPU power, comfort, ease of use, etc. but also game graphics and video resolution, etc.). When headsets with good FOV, monitor quality resolution, great ease of use and an accessible price point become readily available I just can't imagine it not taking off in huge ways. I mean, even simple things like planet earth in VR could become mind blowing experience once it truly looks like your standing there. VR tech just has a lot of technical hurdles to overcome to get it out of the niche and into the masses is my two cents.
SteveSteve pay per video is exactly for that purpose
fenderwq I think part of it is word of mouth. Usually that's how really awesome things spread so fast, but i feel weird explaining to my friends about how mindblowing VR porn is and and even weirder just thinking about telling them about the hands free handy setup i use. Eventually it will take off, if you think about it VR is only going to get better from here on out and that's crazy to think of considering how awesome it already is.

Didn't you already changed number of downloads from 30 per three days to 30 per six just last year, and now you are doing it again, (and it's massive reduction now), despite doublevr promising no more reductions after last one, i guess that was a lie.
If monthly subs are abusing downloads (i doubt it, limits are restrictive anyway), limit their download ratios, leave yearly and lifetime subs download limits as they are.
Also streaming 10min in app will unlock 5 extra downloads. Users with a history are going to enjoy bigger limits for sure
️ As well as those with connected sex toy and Passthrough.
Also why are you punishing people who don't like to stream, i check the new content in the browser on PC, if i like the scene i download it, i really don't want to be forced to stream.
xeddin1
No, people are not freaking out because of that, people are freaking out because it's yet another decrease, fifth i think, at first downloads were unlimited, don't remember second decrease, third time it was 30 per three days, fourth time it was 30 per six days (and doublevr said no more decreases after that), and now we are at 30 per month, people are rightly worried that in a year or two downloads will be removed altogether.

I don't understand why users using sex toys and PT would have better downloads quotas. It doesn't make any senses.
So the problem is only "hoarders" that subscribe for one month and then cancel, right? The solution then is to only decrease quotas for theses subs.
Don't decrease quotas for monthly subscribers with history, annual and LT. They are your most loyal customers, don't fuck them! You should reward them instead!
What I suggest:
- Monthly sub: 25 downloads/month (equiv to ~ 4/144h) for the first month. Increase quota by 25 by month until sub is cancelled with a max of 200/month (equiv to ~ 33 /144h).
- Annual sub: 250/month (equiv to ~ 41 /144h) at day 1 of subscription since they paid up front.
- LT: 300/month (equiv to 50 /144h).
Monthly limits are more flexibles than 144 hours limits.
I think this would fix your main issue while rewarding loyalty. It's also very simple with no non-sense about using sex toy, PT or number of minutes used in streaming.
SchnuppiLilac Double said the other day that 80,000 people sign into SLR everyday. And he has said in the past that post people do not watch VR porn everyday.
So it seems to me that SLR has at least 160,000 paying subscribers. That doesn't feel like VR porn has hit a wall to me. There aren't any new studios of any real value to start up in a couple of years to take away subscribers. Plus SLR gets like half of all the money and the other half to all the others on the site.
You do the math on how much SLR is bringing in each month

The issue is that it's many issues of course and some of them aren't easy fixes (like piracy).
Imho though VR's biggest issue is it lacks flair. 95% of VR is and has been regular vanilla sex and that's fine if you dig that but porn is often specific to individuals and in 2D you can find something that speaks yo your fancy - you can't in VR and that hasn't changed much in the decade I've followed it.
And as far I can tell that fact get people to leave VR because unless you're one of the lucky ones that dig vanilla porn VR porn isn't your friend. I can't count the amount of times I've seen people on different fourms come into this experience full of excitement by it's prospect only to leave disappointed when they figure out that VR is a bundle of high end vanilla porn and a few blokes humping second rated pornstars and a lot of solos.
Occasionally there's a focus on fetishishs and niches but they are often the most weird ones like armpits or buttholes. Nothing against those that dig that but it's just weird to me that there are huge niches out there and VR mostly ignores them or we get these watered down half attempts that satisfy no one.
The irony of it all is that the few times VR actually focus on a popular niche the responds is extremely positive but then nothing - no follow up before after months and the cycle repeats. The other alternative you get is someone exploring the niche but it's done so horribly that it's practically unwatchable - either contentwise or technically.
So in my estimates VR's main issue is that it more or less caters only to the group that digs vanilla sex. It's fine of course but I just don't see VR drawing in new audiences on that.
My guess is that ManyVids will eventually be the promised VR paradise. A few top creators are actively looking into it but again VR isn't easy to film.
What I find 'puzzling' is why hasn't a company like SLR, POVR, whatever told themselves 'we could be the ManyVids of VR?'. Get in contact with some of the top creators. Offer them assistance on the technology matters and then sell their clips by pay per clip. These creators have large audiences, they do all the work, they are creative powerhouses, their content is often POV virtual sex so it fits VR perfectly, etc.
I could of course totally misunderstand the market but I think it's worth a shot.
OliverDK VR is growing steadily. I think it will eventually reach critical mass and there will be more producers and more fetish content. It took a long time for 2D porn to reach it's current state.
For now there are only a dozen or so pro level producers and some of them shoot for multiple sites.

That sort of plan sounds good, it rewards long-time subscribers and discourages 1-month hit-and-run downloaders (but not prevent it, for good reason)
One thing I find annoying with the current system is there is no way to bank downloads, if I go a week or a month without getting files then i've missed those download slots forever
Going to a monthly limit would be a good fix - maybe only allow it for 1 year+ subs or lifetime
30 per month seems fair to me. These files are HUGE, everybody understands there must be limits, either in file size or download limits. I very much prefer the last. And 30 per month won't hurt normal users. Seems like a good decision to me.

OliverDK My comment was more about VR in general not haven taken off jet not just porn. I mean, once VR in general gets bigger more people will start using VR porn too and companies can start to cater to more niches (looking forward to some niches myself). Bit of a chicken and egg situation if you ask me.
But I do get what you mean too. Especially find POVR very vanilla nowadays. What keeps me interested the most now is the new AI passthrough, JAV scripts and revesting old content.

Only if your definition of a "normal user" is someone who primarily streams and only downloads infrequently. 30 downloads per month will absolutely hurt anyone who primarily downloads and there are plenty of people who do that.
