Most western studios film VR as flat porn. They use the simple rule: "show the pussy all the time", so the girls are always a meter away. There are almost no immersion or presence, it is just you watching a 3D TV.

I am european, but 90% of porn I watch is JAV VR. For me it's much more erotic and hotter a censored JAV VR than 90% of western porn in VR, because the former is true virtual reality where you really feel like you're with the girl, and the latter is just watching TV with glasses on.

I agree. Earlier iterations of VR porn were much more focused on the intimacy and experience the medium could provide - they just lacked better cameras that we have now. I think the earlier days of VR were more of a purist or connoisseur mindset as well, since it was a smaller community and many people were still priced out of the headsets. I think a couple of things changed that: cheap headsets, which left studios at the mercy of the masses, and the migration of traditional pornographers to the medium once the proof of concept was established. SLR, in may ways, is the worst of this trend. They are constantly talking about how they are "innovating" in that "move fast and break shit" way that techies from the the early 2000s did (and we all know how well that worked out). But instead of elevating Virtual Reality to become more immersive, have more presence, have more intimacy - the very thing that made it amazing in the first place - they just keep dragging it towards 3D porn with shit that has nothing to do with virtual reality (e.g., shorts, PMVs, passthrough, music tracks, non-pov, harems, booking every rando with no acting skills, porny dialogue, flat-porn angles that break immersion or little attention to angles at all).

It's a shame, really. Once a company decides they want to dominate the market (SLR) instead of producing artisan porn (CzechVR, VREdging, DeepInSex), they have to dumb their product down to cater to everyone. Before you know it, you're Walmart.

The problem is that studios listen to those people and not to us, and that makes them lose all the strength and advantages of VR, to have what we have now, a hybrid for which it is not worth wearing glasses, because it's like watching TV.

Another reason is that it is much easier and faster to shoot 3D TV than to shoot true virtual reality. And when you go from 4 movies a month to 16 or 20, as has happened with SLR Originals, they choose the easy and fast path.

Personally I am not renewing the subscriptions of western studios that are running out, because the current western VR does not fill me, it is not true virtual reality. My CZechVR subscription ended two months ago. My SLR subscription will end in july. If I renew, which is unlikely, it will be for a couple of studios that publish their content here, not for the SLR Originals, which I haven't even downloaded for a long time. I am returning to JAV VR. It is censored, yes, but it's true virtual reality, the only place where you can really feel like you're with the girls, which to me is the only sense of VR porn.

I think the problem is that they don't listen to anybody. They don't ever watch the stuff that they shot.
I think in the early days they had to watch the scenes they shot because they didn't know what they were doing. So they looked at it and learned. Now they think they have it all figured out and just make boring 3d tv porn day after day. I half to believe in capitalism that somebody will figure it out. They will take all the money and force other companies to follow suit.
SLR thinks they run VR now but as soon as somebody does what we keep talking about then everybody will leave them. Then and I guess only then will SLR start trying to change how they film. Right now they have a couple teams that only know how to make cheesy 2d with a VR camera. I don't think they even think about the story for the scene until the ride to the studio.

I fear that this is wrong, which is why I keep calling SLR the Walmart of porn. Even though headsets are more mainstream now, VR porn is still a bit of a niche market. It takes money, equipment, and (as Natch noted) TIME to produce VR porn instead of 3D porn. SLR scooping all the fledgling studios into their ecosystem while they churn out 20 meh-quality 3D vids a month makes it difficult for an artisan studio shooting true VR to compete. It is exactly like what happens when Walmart comes to your town - the artisan butcher, baker, etc that turned out high-quality product is forced out of business by the one-stop shop full of cheap crap. And they even did it in the same way! Initially, big box stores like Walmart will carry a lot of the same merchandise that higher-quality stores do, but at a lower price- even if that is a loss for them initially. Once they have driven everyone else out of the market with their low low prices, they drop the quality merchandise and only offer cheap crap while the locals complain they they cant get high quality goods any more. This is why you saw SLR produce technically flawless, intimate, high-quality VR until they dominated the market - and now they just churn out 20 3D vids a month, ignore customer complaints, and act like they are doing you a favor for doing it.

If VR porn is niche, then Japanese VR is beyond niche. Making VR even more niche than it already is, is not a great business move by studios. Most people who watch porn watch 2D porn and that’s focused a lot on the penetration. When those people (i.e. me) come over to VR from 2D porn, we want to see the stuff we enjoyed in 2D porn with the same girls except we’re now in 3d and get that POV sense that it’s us in the scene fucking the girl. Actually fucking though, not just sitting motionless while she pleasures us and not just vanilla girlfriend simulations. It’s porn, I want to see pornstars fuck like pornstars, not like mere mortals. I want to see stuff that most girls in real life don’t do, deepthroating, anal, group sex, dirty talk, rough sex, pornstars showing their skills.

Basically then I disagree with most people in this thread and really don’t want them to go down the road being asked for. That won’t entice more people to VR, it will just keep out the vast majority of porn fans who like something a little more adventurous in their sex scenes.

People are entitled to their opinions of course and I’m sure the same people will keep asking for the same intimate vanilla porn just as I will continue to advocate that they go more hardcore, not less. We all like different things and it would be cool if we got a mixture of everything or if VR porn could reach a level of popularity that individual sites could specialise. We’re not there yet though and making VR even further removed from the mainstream won’t help us get there.

Just because people come from one outlet to the other doesn't mean it's a great idea to change your product to conform to the demands of every new customer - especially when the things they want degrade your product into something it wasn't meant to be. Otherwise, you get a fabulous steakhouse that now sells Bic Macs because Billy Bob Mouthbreather was mad that he couldn't get what he wanted there and they couldn't stand to lose one customer.

Good! Every time you get a monopoly on a product and adjust it down to appeal to the lowest common denominator, you get a shittier product. What is really needed is a seperate ecosystem for 3D porn. You can call a Big Mac a shredded steak sandwich all you want - it ain't what I came for. Same goes for VR - it is emphatically NOT 3D porn, and it is a real problem when the biggest player in the industry starts churning out nothing but that and influences the market standard. It is like textbook rules in the US - states like Texas change their rules so that you can only teach history in a certain way, or promote abstinence-only sex-ed, or whatever theocratic nonsense they are up to this week. Why should we care? Because textbook publishers are a monopoly, so they produce shit to the lowest common denominator (e.g., Texas) and that means every damn state gets shitty textbooks because of the dimwits in Texas. The more a site like SLR moves away from VR porn to embrace 3D porn, the more other sites will follow. It is almost never a good idea to try to cater to everyone, especially when you are talking about polarizing choices.
