Yeah I feel like we're at the Netflix-level of looking at stats and drawing wild conclusions, resulting in cancelling great shows just because it wasn't binge viewed enough within the first two days, shit like that.
Rakly3 The average watch time is about 10 minutes.
Like this is not enough to mean anything, there's no context, is it even interpreted right? There are lots of reasons why that might be the number for avg watch time.
- Is that 10mins for a full "session" or only per scene? I.E. are people not simply watching shorter good parts of multiple scenes in a row for much longer than 10mins?
- Does this include guest viewers? (who can only watch a short preview trailer iirc?).
- Or downloaders who just check to see if a scene is broken, weirdly scaled or actually worthy of a download?
- Even stream-users will browse, scan and skip from clip to clip to see if it's worth watching, lowering averages because of high quantity, low quality library...
- Wouldn't a percentage of total scene duration be a better stat? Like how much of a % is the avg watch time of the total length of scenes (Some great studios have shorts scenes like StripsVR, StasyQVR that are usually 10mins or less)
I don't expect to get answers here but really the random "stats" being posted are severely lacking in detail to make any kind of conclusions, plus the graphs I've seen are either really badly made or downright misleading, or at least misrepresented to support a bias view. Just because you have some analytics data doesn't mean you're a statistical data analyst (well maybe SLR has hired one by now). So not to be insulting but really everything you guys are posting needs to be taken with a truckload of salt and a healthy dose of scepticism.
Obviously the majority are really casual users but every service is going to have that and overall it should balance out. Saying a downloader is using 10x vs an average user just shows the odd comparisons going on... I dunno it seems you're all looking at stats without fully understanding them and have been slowly turning hostile to the high-end users, whom are very likely the same people who have been subbed from the start. It's not a good look. And what's the end goal of it all, you can't be expecting the more hardcore fans to take up casual behavior? Even at a couple hours/month that's just not worth it the admission price.
