Only 8% of users re-watch at least 60 sec of the same videos in 2 month
doublevr Oh my lord. Now you're going to cut up vieos into 10-minute segments to become the TikTok of porn instead of the Netflix of porn? You do realize that TikTok is braindead lowest common denominator trash, right?
Btw - we already have cut up, short versions of porn vids - they are called previews, and we don't have to pay for a sub for that.

I’m guessing what we’re interpreting from this is different from what is actually meant from someone whose English isn’t always the clearest. No offense to anyone - I can only speak/write English - so props to anyone that’s attempting communication outside their native tongue, but in these instances I think it’s causing more confusion than is needed. It would be nice if these random “how about we do this” threads would stop, and SLR hire a professional public relations person that makes these announcements with all proper context on an official blog in much clearer language.
This is a prime example of "penny wise pound foolish"
Bruh, this isn't the way to increase revenue. And every single person on this forum are one of the paying contributors, so that should be a pretty big hint as to how off your mindset/perspective is. You can't eliminate piracy. Companies and stars much bigger than you or I have tried. What you can do is work to provide better service and product and make it easier and more beneficial for folks to use your service.
By the way, I download my favorite scenes merely because it's easier to watch saved content than streamed content. There is no lag on downloaded content, and you have much better control of browsing through your own content.
And like others have stated, most of us here pay out of principal, because we want to reward and take care of people who provide a product and service that we enjoy. And even if I didn't want to do that, and I was a dishonest, selfish weasel, it'd still be much preferable to subscribe here in order to browse through and search for content in order to find what I like.

couldn't download the shit out of SLR even if i tried, with your recently introduced download limit your site has seemingly introduced an artificial download speed limit as well !
while other sites let me download at speeds varying from 50mb/s to 110mb/s downloads from SLR are limited to 8mb/s !
i tried using a download manager but somehow it only makes things worse, very strange.
but guess what i can stream videos at the highest quality without any issues whatsoever ! what a coincidence !
Admin edit: had to fix Suck part for you
SuckNickname with your recently introduced download limit your site has seemingly introduced an artificial download speed limit as well !
Nope
SuckNickname i tried using a download manager but somehow it only makes things worse, very strange.
Might be worth checking their site for how to use it or adjust the settings/options.
I really don't understand the point in all this. Lets say SLR has 10,000 or 100,000 customers but the forum has 50 people that participate. These same 50 people are your customer voice on all the other forums like reddit. Why in the world would you start a fight with these 50 people over and over?

SuckNickname Yeah iirc it's because they have servers set up for streaming and that doesn't work well with how browsers try to download using multiple connections. I use jDownloader and limit SLR connections to 1 and also do only 1 file at a time. Only then it sometimes works at ~50 Mb/s, mostly in low traffic off-hours, night-time... It can still bog down to below 5Mb/s sometimes so you have to check it from time to time, pause and resume after a minute if it's going at snail pace again.
Of course SLR has made it more difficult and annoying to copy the download URL but if you know how to get to that it's best to use a download manager that lets you limit the number of connections.
doublevr "I believe the future of SLR is more into TikTok kinda things."
Bruh, I can almost feel the current of the pirate community building from this comment. Isn't SLR doing well right now? Why on this green Earth would you want to ruin that? It's like you've got a 5 star steakhouse and are going table to table telling your clientele that you're think of going the happy meal route. One way to ensure that people pirate is to make content difficult to use/consume. If someone wants to buy an MP3 for example, they don't want to have it linked to Apple or Amazon, so that their usage is constricted. They want to be able to use that song on their own devices (generally speaking) and if the purchase comes with a constraint that it can only be used with Amazon's music player, guess where the next stop for that consumer is? And then that consumer begins to explore the pirating community, and now that consumer is part of the pirating community instead of the comment section of SLR.
I'm personally brand new to this comment section. I've been a customer at SLR for about 6 months. I've cancelled subscriptions to other sites because I was growing so fond of this one. Now I'm completely re-thinking things.
Piracy is something that has existed since the dawn of the internet. It will never go away. It is absolutely pointless to fight against the current and spend your precious energy on blocking this. This will result not only in a huge backlash as you're excluding people with slow internet that do not have the luxury to stream an 8K video to their headset directly.
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/mapped-the-fastest-and-slowest-internet-speeds-in-the-world/
Also definitely be prepared to invest A LOT in cybersecurity because I'm pretty sure you will open yourself up as a target to get hacked and potentially leak all your videos one day if you decide to go streaming-only.
I'd say focus and spend all your time on improving the SLR app / service to retain more users on the platform. This is where your profit margins come in
Profit does not come from tighening downloads and fighting piracy. This is anti-consumer and it will set you back by a couple years if you decide to go streaming-only.
My 2 cents from a streamer-only guy

Niteflyte It's like you've got a 5 star steakhouse and are going table to table telling your clientele that you're think of going the happy meal route.
Exactly this. When I joined, this was a more artisan and curated site. I subbed for the quality releases and ease of use. Since I have been here, the quality has been reduced and they seem to deliberately try to make the site harder to use for their most enthusiastic customers.
No matter what the industry, there is always one player that fucks it up by trying to become the only provider, and then reducing quality to shit once they are dominating. This is the route SLR, like many before them, is taking. Welcome to the Walmart of porn.
On that subject, this thread did make me think about how I use the site, and what my usage statistics must look like to SLR. I do look at nearly every video that is released on the site. Most of the time, that looking takes the form of quickly skimming over the video to look at camerawork, positions, transitions, etc. I'm pretty picky, too - I don't want shaky-cam, I don't want handsy stunt-cocks, I don't want that Pervert guy panting and grunting, I don't want fatass TadPole, I don't want girls doing shit 5 feet from the camera, I don't want them to shout and babble nonsense the entire video, etc. Unsurprisingly, few videos make the "return to this" cut after a short preview. The ones that are really great, I bookmark and then try out with a Handy and a script. Did I mention that I won't watch it without a script? If I enjoy the experience, then I will download that video to make sure that I have it when SLR decides to drop it, or the studio decides to pull it, or the credit card companies complain, or whatever.
The point of all this is that from an uninformed and biased viewpoint about how users use the site, it looks like I only rewatch like 3% of videos, and not for that long. What you are missing is that this is not because I enjoy streaming instead of downloads, or because people don't re-watch videos - it is because the overwhelming majority of videos that SLR offers are, in my opinion, a steaming pile of crap. Perhaps if you would focus on quality over quantity, user patterns would look different. Additionally, you should ASK your users what they are doing and why, instead of cherry picking datapoints to support what you want to do anyway.
It feels like these forums are sold with the idea that you want to learn from your customers and improve, but what you actually do is encourage us to give you information just so you can mock us and tell us we are wrong.

Will65 I hope your post gets read, and re-read, and re-read again. A customer-oriented business would be wise to digest this feedback, the warnings just below the surface, and learn from it - really learn from it.
Will65 I don't want that Pervert guy panting and grunting, I don't want fatass TadPole
And can I just amplify and echo 1000x this? I still need to figure out how to do studio-blocking in the app since I read somewhere it’s now there, but I’ve yet to unearth this.
someoneX This made me wonder if SLR streaming could be done from within Heresphere, surely that should be possible and a great thing to have right? It has a browser, can't you just log into the SLR site? I might even try streaming that way... So I googled it and top result was this post below... apparently it was possible, until SLR made sure it was no longer possible. for fucks sake...

Aerowen did you notice that happened at the same time slr started using mx file types, with a note on the download that they will only play in slr or deo players. Which is a lie as we all know, they play way better in heresphere.
Slr pulled out of heresphere because the dev wouldn't tell them the tricks he was using to get such good image quality. Basically they wanted to copy his homework and got told to do 1. So they pulled out of heresphere completely. Typical slr behaviour.
dojimmy You mean the MX200 files? Pretty sure that's been a thing for a lot longer than a few months to be fair, it's just the 200 degree FOV or lens type w/e, there's VRCA220 too. I've seen that note of those files playing better in SLR/DeoVR for a lot longer than a few months. For a while it was true only SLR supported that lens/FOV format because they started using it for SLRoriginals I think but Heresphere added support to all sorts of lenses and FOVs.
As for the other things... I've just read some more about it, does look like the usual shenanigans and it's getting tiresome. =/
