  • Q3 We have a problem... drops to 72hz...

AlexSLR I found a solution to this problem... I had the brightness on the Q3 on MAX and it was thermal throttling the Hz. So, just lowering the Q3 device brightness in the Q3 settings fixed it for me. I also have DeoVR set at 90Hz instead of 120, that seems to work best with no change in smoothness

renstimpy11 thank you for sharing the solution with us! I'm glad to read that you managed to fix the issue ๐Ÿ™

Sorry - It's not fixed at all, this is a workaround for an issue caused by a Meta update.

As i have previously said it's not a DeoVR issue, but a Meta issue, and for me the issue has got even worse in Heresphere, switching between 120hz and 72hz every 20 seconds or so, but also continues in DeoVR and shouldn't need workarounds for something that was perfect before.

If you say everything is fine or fixed, then it won't get a genuine fix for the issue.

The issue is worse than ever IMO and shouldn't be disregarded.

The image quality in all respects seems to be going backwards ATM - DeoVR streaming is especially poor in it's current state (sorry just being honest).

The DeoVR cams seem to lock up for about 5 seconds with bitmap issues every 30 seconds or so and make those cams unwatchable - whether this is something to do with the introduction of Ai Passthrough, who know's, but it's ruining the cam section.

I didn't want to say anything, but feel i have to speak out as everything seems a bit crap lately and not up to the usual standard.

I tried pointing out the issue to Meta and got what seemed like an Ai response and lost my rag and have become a little disillusioned with the format as things seems to be going backwards in many ways.

Automatic updates, in my opinion are worse than viruses ! - If i could block then when i have a perfect setup then i would.

Also whoever made the decision to remove the 'Original source download option' from SLR Originals has made it totally pointless to purchase these scenes - Hey whatever, but another downgrade for lifetime users that want to support the site ! - Can anyone explain the incentive to purchase these scenes anymore - Anyone remember scenes on sale ?

I don't think i have ever used a service that is so inconsistent as VR quality wise - It's like Jekyll and Hyde of entertainment - One day everything looks amazing, the next it looks terrible without explanation of why, and we as users have to work out the issues of these companies failures otherwise it won't get fixed.

Anyway - back to watching the US Open with a bottle of red.

renstimpy11 bro you ever get a error when play a video from deovr that saus not enough memory to play this app" I got that one not to long ago, I'm wondering if using ai pt is eating up memory. Because lately I been noticing lags, freezing and app crashing, and the SLR AI pass-through be lagging too.

I'm thinking about taking my headset back and get a new one. I got like a year left on my warranty

renstimpy11 It was happening on Heresphere

      Memory?

I tried looking to see how much memory being used but couldn't find it, anyone know where to find it in q3!

AshSLR Issue seems to be back with a Vengeance ๐Ÿ˜ž. Brightness adjustments didn't seem to help at all. Sharpness, contrast, all settings set to zero. 90Hz or 120Hz didn't seem to matter at all. Framerate just kept dropping to 72Hz on the Q3, then after 20-30 seconds jump back to normal. It flashes every time it changes Hz so it is really annoying and distracting.
It does seem to be more likely to happen with a longer session like 30+ minutes.
Heresphere would not do the issue with sharpening disabled. It will happen with sharpening enabled.
I always use DeoVR with AI PT so maybe that's an issue.
Can you guys recreate this issue with DeoVR on Q3?

renstimpy11 Can you please check whether the issue persists on the 14.9 version?

Yes it still happens on 14.9

"Quest Game Tuner" may be a solution to this problem. Still testing, will report back with results soon.

            I have the same problem

renstimpy11 since the latest Meta update (.77 on 17 june) and DeoVR update 14.9 i have the same problem in almost every video now. Before i only seen it happen once.

Thank you for the information, we will check it

renstimpy11 META has just released version V78. It might be worth checking out to see if it addresses the issue you encountered. So far, feedback from Reddit users has been quite positive on addressing those V77 tragedies.
I am currently trying to recreate the issue that you are facing, do you mind sharing with me some of the video titles that you had viewed before that caused the refresh switching issues? You had mentioned Quest3, did you use it as a standalone or PCVR?

            @renstimpy11
I had tested the new firmware V78. Sadly, I can see the anomaly you mentioned persisting ๐Ÿ™
What I had observed while testing on Quest3 standalone at 90hz and 120hz is that:

            • Playing without any PT or sharpness modification causes it to work without any intermittent frame rate drop at all
            • Playing with PT on without sharpness modification causes it to intermitently drop the frame rate to 72hz, then back to its original framerate 90hz/120hz , this would repeat itself after 15 seconds or so
            • Playing without PT and with sharpness set to max causes it to intermitently drop the frame rate to 72hz, then back to its original framerate 90hz/120hz , this would repeat itself after 10 seconds or so
            • Playing with PT on and with sharpness set to max causes it to intermitently drop the frame rate to 72hz, then back to its original framerate 90hz/120hz , this would repeat itself after 8 seconds or so

damson thank you, forwarded the info to the team ๐Ÿ™

damson Thanks for doing this. Bummer it's still an issue with v78.
Try " Quest Game Tuner", I think you will be impressed. It safely overclocks the CPU and other tweaks and I'm pretty sure it fixes the issues with the Q3.
Please report back if you try it.

renstimpy11 If anything, overclocking a CPU that is overheating is going to make the problem worse.

@renstimpy11 , @phyuggene might be right on this though, overclocking might make it worse, as the real root cause of this is definitely the current messed-up state of the Quest Thermal Throttling mechanism.

I had taken the liberty to dig up the developer document on their dynamic throttling and run some tests by artificially inducing the thermal trigger state, and sure enough, the familiar dreaded 72hz drop rears in. If you want to check this out and are familiar with adb console command. Just run this while playing a video on any VR app to force throttling for 10 seconds:
adb shell am broadcast -a com.oculus.vrruntimeservice.COMPOSITOR_SIMULATE_THERMAL --es subsystem refresh --ei seconds_throttled 10
Seems that if the dynamic throttle kicks in, the first automatic course of action for the HMD is to force the refresh rate to native 72hz at all times. I hope that Meta will fix this up soon. Currently, all Quest video players are facing the same issue ๐Ÿ™
                Force throttling

renstimpy11 Yeah bro, i dropped my remote and noticed tilting up/down sometimes makes the video skip. Doesnโ€™t happen a lot, but I can trigger it if I move the stick enough. Recalibration helped a bit, but Iโ€™ll probably return it, a got a year left on the warranty. ๐Ÿ‘

Thinking of waiting tho, maybe a new quest is coming. Any news? Havenโ€™t kept up with VR tech lately. Vr Games are fun but donโ€™t really keep me hooked. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

renstimpy11 If you encounter "insufficient memory to run...." on the Quest, clear the cache. I believe there's an option to do so in the DEOVR app and on the quest itself. If you change settings on videos, like framing Flat videos, or adjusting color settings, those get saved in cache and can eventually fill it up. That, and a restart can usually fix the same issue.
