Deovr on Pcvr is so much sharper than standalone deovr
Funny, I remember people saying how DeoVR is dead and that its stupid to download the highest quality videos for local playback instead but suddenly this has become some realization haha. If you want even better visual fidelity use a proper video player app like heresphere instead of that outdate Deovr app from steam. I like to add 5 sharpness on all the videos and it makes everything pop so much better without introducing a negative noticeable amount of noise. Also using steamVR you can increase your render percentage to over 100% if you have a good enough PC. I usually render my headset to 200-250% its native resolution and I have a super old GPU 2080ti

metichemsi actually, if you watch local videos on standalone, the quality is still not there, only in pcvr. In pcvr, the streaming quality, imo is the same as watching it locally. I'm speaking from deovr.
VRXVR I was able to fixed the audio delay by uninstalling nvidia audio driver and k-lite codec, not sure which was the culprit, but the problem has be solved. Thnx bro!

PCVR will always have better graphic fidelity than standalone VR. You cannot expect to drive a Fiat Panda and expect it to go as fast as any Ferrari. The situation with the PCVR linking from our Quest device is similar to the situation where the Fiat Panda had its engine replaced with a Ferrari's. It'll drive fast like any Ferarri now, but it is still a Fiat Panda.
PCVR generally delivers superior quality compared to the Quest native app, primarily due to its hardware capabilities. The sharper visuals seen on SteamVR and Oculus Rift PCVR setups are likely a result of hardware-based features like anti-aliasing, resolution multiplier, and image sharpening being applied to various content, such as thumbnails, videos, and UI elements.
While both the Android and PCVR versions of the app may share the same engine and build, the underlying hardware makes a significant difference in performance and visual quality. PCVR systems offer a wide range of graphic tweeks, settings, and configurations that can be adjusted at both the hardware and software levels.
In contrast, the Quest is more limited in this regard, with fewer options for fine-tuning since it's locked to a fixed hardware configuration.
The key point is that the lower graphic fidelity we see on Quest devices running the native Android version is limited by hardware constraints in the graphics processing (GPU), not the hardware display itself. When we use PCVR we rely on the PC's own GPU.
Wait for Quest4
bboy7895 Great Job!
I think the culprit here is a k-lite codec pack (in particular, the LAVFilters included in the pack) they are doing their messy mess in the background without us knowing. Told you, I have a horrible experience with them!
I don't think the NVIDIA audio driver can cause any issues for two reasons:
1- I have it installed on my PC. It's essential to me as I connect my PC to TV using HDMI when play flat games, I can hear the sound from TV with one single cable you know.
2- The driver itself remains inactive until you use it. When you do this, you actually "Trigger" it and change its statue to "Active" when you finish the driver task, it will return Inactive again and so on. This is true for any Windows PC driver that is not in use.
Well done my friend and best regards!
damson Couldn't say it better.
As for me, no more wait for Meta to release a headset with DisplayPort option, IF they ever consider that.
My Pimax Crystal Light will arrive next Monday, hopefully.
A native PCVR Headset. No more dealing with Extra Apps, Virtual drivers or Encoding and Decoding nonsense that eat the PC Performance like crazy.
Yes, it's bulky, heavy, tethered and looks ridiculous. And (Hopefully Not!) have to deal with Pimax customer service which is horrible as I read while researching about this headset. But what other options I have? I waited for Valve Decard a lot. It seems we'll not get it this year
So, I rather deal with ALL of these issues than to limit my VR hobby in the Standalone headsets Prison.
Best Regards.
VRXVR As I can't edit the post, maybe because there's time limits for editing?
I'll just update the Oculus Debug Tool Settings here:
Distortion Curvature: Low
Video Codec: H.264
Encode Resolution Width: 4128
Encode Bitrate (Mbps): 500
Link Sharpening: Enabled
What changed is the addition of "Video Codec: H.264" setting which is essential for high bitrate.
Many thanks to @bboy7895 for reminding me about this. Kudos, man!
Just tried some downloaded PT videos with heresphere on the Quest3 and they indeed look way better. I recommend downloading and then streaming them via either a windows network share or DLNA.

VRXVR please lmk of your experience with pimax crystal in term of visual and fov. I was thinking about buying that same headset.
Man, ever since I switch to pcvr, I honestly cant go back to standalone, the visual is off putting now.. Passthrough would be the only reason why i still use standalone.
bboy7895 I let you know for sure when I have a good amount of time with it and experienced all of its pros and cons. And rest assured, if it's good I'll tell you why it's good, and if it's garbage, I'll tell you why too.
But, let me tell you this up front, why it took more time to deliver to me, because I did many researches about it:
1- This headset ships with either a Plastic OR Glass lenses. And the Glass ones despite they are heavier, they are super clear compared to Plastic ones.
2- It's also shipped with either a fiber optic cable OR a regular one. And the fiber cable is lighter and more stable compared to the regular one.
Before I ordered it, I contacted Pimax and wanted guarantees that they ship to me, one with Glass lenses and a fiber optic cable, After many back and forward emails. They secured one for me with what I want, BUT with extra $50 to pay, which I did, although I didn't like it. BUT I don't have any other option, they know that and I know that. So, yeah, such is life...
Yes, the Pimax Crystal Light passthrough mode is black and white similar to Quest 2 as I read, but this is not a mixed reality headset you know, it's just a pure VR goodness which I personally prefer in ALL the XR umbrella (AR/MR/VR) as AR and MR didn't impress me at all, Including the PT Videos, so I personally don't care about them. If you do, you HAVE to keep your Quest 3 for that.
Until then, I'll post my unbiased experience with it and you'll decide by yourself
Respectfully and best regards!
VRXVR I'm on Quest 2 with meta link with cable connected to a 4070 PC and 13600kf,from native Quest 2 player to PC there Is a huuge difference, but it's Just me or the standard slr 8k video Is nearly identical to the higher bitrate "master" videos? I used your settings in debug tool apart from the res width. I don't know if i'm missing something..the video Is stored in my PC and i'm using heresphere
radiz19 Hello my friend and apologies for the very late reply as I was/ still very busy.
As for the SLR Re-encoded videos vs the Original/ High bitrate videos I already posted about my experience and test results as you can see here. So, no need for reposting. Please read it:
https://forum.sexlikereal.com/d/3544-deovr-v-heresphere/271
I don't know about the Quest 2 as all of these tests are done on Quest 3 using DeoVR Steam and both same videos (SLR Re-encoded and the Original) were stored In same test folder for local playback on my PC and I can see the difference in video quality clearly in favor of the Original/ High bitrate videos. BUT, as you already read, SLR Re-encoded videos are very close to them.
And as I have the Pimax Crystal currently, the difference in video quality is even more obvious in the Original/ High bitrate videos as I tested very recently.
Hope this help and Best Regards.

Only here to join the PCVR choir
Using the Quest Pro and planned to sell my I9 9900K/2080ti setup, since there's nothing for me after HL Alyx to do with it.
But after having troubles with DeoVR native I went back to PCVR+XBVR...
It has always been sharpe rand more realistic!!!

nimendie Hello,
Maximum FPS VR Porn video I have is: 8192x4096 @60FPS and it plays very well. I don't have any 8K @90FPS VR porn video, so I don't know if "Nvidia NVDEC" can handle it and play it smoothly or not when it comes to the RTX 40 Series in general and RTX 4080 in particular.
Sorry I couldn't help.
Best Regards.
This is interesting. I've used a Pimax 8kx and a 3080 for years and only recently changed to the Quest 3 (not linked to pc) in the last couple of months. And well, I immensely prefer the Quest 3 honestly. The Quest's better pancake lenses help for sure, but I didn't notice a significant downgrade. The only thing I can think of is that almost all videos are way sharper than the passthrough video quality on the Quest. Even still, I think the videos all look great.
I admittedly haven't tried SLR on the PC with my Quest, but if there's no passthrough, then I don't even care. I was a skeptic of passthrough when it started coming out, but once I tried it with the Quest 3, I could never go back to non passthrough stuff. The only way I think I'd feel the need to connect to the PC is if stuff like BraindanceVR becomes a real thing.
