SchnuppiLilac Valid thoughts, but it's not like I will leave a better platform and go to a lower one just because SLR or others said so and I'm not alone with this choice for sure. With all respects, SLR is a business and all business goes where the major market goes regardless of the user experience quality and that's ok to an extent. On the other hand, not all users can afford or care about the better experience on the better platform and that's also ok. If SLR's HYPER didn't come to Steam, I'll understand their decision and I'm not out at all, there's many alternatives for PCVR you know. I rather be on a way more powerful, open, flexible, expandable platform like PCVR than to deal with all these drawbacks of standalone headsets. The fact that I'll never get a powerful enough headset with the ability to expand its storage anytime soon if ever is a deal breaker to me even if it means I'm in the minority of the market share. In the end, I found PCVR is the clear winner for me when it comes for the positives vs. negatives between the two platforms. As for SLR and other studios features like PT Videos, AR, MR, Phones...etc... I really don't care about them at all. I think I'm a VR guy maybe because of the cohesive and enjoyable experience that only VR provided to me. Respectfully and best regards.
Deovr on Pcvr is so much sharper than standalone deovr
Yeah with the rtx 5000 series that handles much higher then 8k resolutions and recent 4k per eye headset this difference will only be much bigger

There shouldn't be a big difference unless render resolution is getting forced low on Quest somehow. OVR metrics (opened from Quest Games Optimizer) says it's running in 2528x2640 resolution on Quest 3. I don't know if it's optimal but if you are running Virtual Desktop in Godlike mode it was (going off memory) something like 3072x3216 in quest (quest says 183% render scale vs 150% in DeoVR). In Quest Games Optimizer I set native Quest DeoVR to 200% render resolution (5040x5248) which is probably far beyond diminishing returns and the interface looks sharper than the default resolution but not sure it would make actual videos sharper (internal video resolution may be unaffected by application resolution but pure speculation). You can try to see if it makes a difference beyond the default resolution. If not it at least makes the interface look more clear with the trade off of some performance/battery.
edit: boosting res above default res scale does seem to have positive effects e.g. can pick out more detail in Shinchiros3DPhotos on DeoVR.com but A-B testing is not instant so can't say how much. I don't think it's placebo anyway. If that was validated perhaps create an HD mode like Skybox or 4xvr (with warning about performance hit/battery drain if significant). If there is a worry about confusion console gamers are getting used to performance/quality mode bifurcation.
On steam I would always click on the DEO app that had a picture of a guy on a bike.
About 2 days ago another DEO app appeared in my suggestion that now just says DEO VR with a picture of tv screens in the background.
Is this the same app or is it a new one?
Either way a have to say it plays way better. The bike deo app would always studder like the picture was lagging just a little bit.
The new DEO plays perfectly. Is this just an update or new app? And is this what everybody on here is talking about?
@doublevr Thanks for the improvement
So I had a try of PCVR DeoVR using my 4090 on my Pico 4 and the interface while browsing SLR is INSANELY higher quality in PCVR. It's like comparing 480p with 4K
I can actually see the thumbnails of every video super clearly including the tiny parts - The normal DeoVR app is blurry low quality in comparison
I think the livecams were also higher quality (at least the highest quality cams)
Not sure on the actual videos as I often just download them anyway
jommy This is what we are trying to say to everyone, you have to see it with your own eyes to believe. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is higher in quality when using the PCVR Steam DeoVR vs. Standalone Quest 3 DeoVR. The interface, the Cams and the videos.
As for the live cams, I humbly suggest to check "Mandi4pole" she's not only amazing and deserve support, but she's using 6K VR Cam with perfect angle and scale and super clean lenses. She's really taking this seriously and professionally, you can see the difference in quality very clearly when you go back and forth between the two Platforms/ Apps with her Room.
As for the actual videos, I suggest to download the Original/ High bitrate of SLR's Originals recent 8K videos, and again, you can see the difference in quality in favor of PCVR DeoVR when you go back and forth, but remember, you have to copy that video from the PC to your headset's local storage and play it from there so you can have a fair comparison, this is what I did with my Quest 3. and I believe you'll see the difference even better than me, because Pico 4 is BETTER than Q3 for PCVR (2064x2208 pixels per eye with garbage tilted screens vs. 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye and standard, straight screens).
PS: Why I said garbage tilted screens? Because they cause aliasing issues when gaming and especially when reading texts. Why Meta did this garbage? Just to increase their headset's FOV on the specs paper. Not worth all the troubles they caused by this move at all.
Respectfully and Best Regards.
I believe the app icons you mentioned, a guy on a bike and a picture of a TV screen, refer to the app list in your Oculus Rift library. Here's an example for reference
Just fyi:
The guy on a bike icon is for SteamVR DeoVR
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DeoVR Video Player
And the TV screen is for Oculus Rift DeoVR
C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software\infomediji-d-o-o-deovr-video-player
There is 2 version of PCVR app for DeoVR
If you are using Quest device with link , I suggest you use the Oculus Rift DeoVR as the SteamVR version somehow just aint playing nicely with META Quest link
Yeah there are some really high quality VR cams and some very talented performers that understand how to utilise VR properly
I've seen' Mandi's stream, some good stuff especially her pole dancing. Someone else i'd recommend checking out is dakotaa__ - often has very close VR eye contact with hj/bj with the highest quality cam + lighting
I tried to watch vr.stripchat.com on DeoVR PCVR but the website isn't supported, it's a way better interface than SLR. I did notice that handset key bindings don't work in PCVR and trying to set them in the DeoVR app settings didn't work..
I'll have to take your word on the SLR Originals 8K on PCVR vs headset - normally I either stream them from DeoVR or have them already downloaded in 8K Original network share. I can believe there's a difference but it wasn't as huge of a difference like with the UI, at least for me

@jommy @SchnuppiLilac Dakota is one of my favorites! I love the eye contact in VR, First girl charmed me with VR eye contact is the absolute VR artist, the one and only "Felicity_Tease" My god she's stunning especially when she dances!
Cheers everyone!
I seen her stream yesterday too, she was doing a jerk off with her hand behind the VR camera (no dildo) and it 100% looked/felt as real as a VR show possibly could - never seen that in any VR cam show before now!
Another easy to do thing that is rare imo, is when they are doing POV and look down where our cock would be - it works so well, but so rare
Her cam setup is smart, I think the 2D cam is stacked ontop of the VR one so they also get POV at the same time, and it's quite often VR users tipping for the actual eye contact
It's a shame there are so few VR streamers, a lot of them just use it because it's in the room at the studio they're working and not because they particular want to learn how to become good at VR
If SLR or Dreamcam/Stripchat wanted to, they could reach out to keen streamers and offer them a VR cam without any up-front cost and instead recoup the cost via token % or something

doublevr I have pico 4/pico 4 ultra and quest 3 and running 3090 gpu.
VRXVR I think its due to render resolution, on standalone, its not running native resolution compare to pcvr. It's obvious when you can see how sharp the menu and text are.
Can you imagine being able to watch passthrough videos on pcvr 8k@120 fps, shit would be immersive af.
jommy pcvr is actually really easy, even easier than the quest 3. You just need to download pico connect, no need to waste money on virtual desktop.
bboy7895 on standalone, its not running native resolution compare to pcvr
I only just found this but it seems Sidequest app lets you increase Q3 render resolution and CPU/GPU performance. I guess it works since thumbnails seem to look sharper and video fps in DeoVR goes down substantially when using the highest render resolution and performance settings. For videos as such, I am not sure if they look better without direct comparison but probably they are.

SchnuppiLilac You said you mainly pcvr, do you get any audio lag, mainly videos with spatial audio? Im getting audio lag on all spatial audio video with my pico 4 ultra, not sure if it does the same for quest 3. I tried both pc audio aux and headset audio, and both ran into the same issue. I dont have an option to disable spatial audio.
Couple years back, I remember having the same problem with my quest 2, but there was a spatial option for me to disable it. This only happen on pcvr.
bboy7895 You said you mainly pcvr
I only use Q3 stand-alone, don't have a Windows PC. After having tweaked the settings with Sidequest (directly on the Q3), I noticed audio lag too but it was only one video out of many.

SchnuppiLilac my bad, it was meant for VRXVR. Yea, with standalone i dont have any of the audio issue.

bboy7895 Hello,
I don't get any audio lag at all when using regular Stereo or Spatial audio for both Gaming and watching videos. Even the videos in a Facebook 360 TBE 8.2 format provided in the Original Studio Matroska container (.mkv video files) Even with 10 bit VR videos. Or playing heavy games like Half Life Alyx with Steam Audio HRTF or other VR games with binaural audio.
The experience is the same for both my previous headset (Quest 2) and current headset (Quest 3).
I use the following hardware/ software:
My current PC Specs are: Intel Core i9-14900K/ RTX 4080/ 32BG DDR5 2800 MHz Memory.
Quest 3 up to date with latest V72 update. I don't have any Games, Apps or files installed on it currently after I am done many testing/ experiencing with it.
JSAUX Oculus Link 2 in 1 Connector and Charger for Quest 2/ 3 connected to USB 3.0 port directly on the Motherboard, NOT on the PC case ports, be aware of that! As I had awful experiences with them.
Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 up to date with all drivers and have the free HEVC Codec installed from Microsoft store (HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer) NOT the 1$ paid one from Microsoft, which is awful and not always working BTW. I also have the AV1 Video Extension from Microsoft Store. I don't have ANY other video codecs/ LAVFilters installed on my PC. Believe me, you'll save yourself MANY problems.
Official Meta Quest Link App and SteamVR and enables the "Oculus Virtual Audio Device" or "Steam Streaming Speakers" depending on the game and use scenarios. I don't use Virtual Desktop or any other Apps.
DeoVR from Steam with "Direct show" turned Off. Don't use this garbage, always use the hardware accelerated playback engine in any VR video player which uses GPU decoders for example.
As I'm not familiar with Pico headsets unfortunately, I don't know about their PC audio drivers quality and stability compared to Meta, so I can't help with that.
Here is what I humbly can help with (some obvious, some advanced):
1- Just for a simple and quick testing. Try to play the video file with the Windows Modern Media Player App first in the regular Windows desktop mode, if it worked perfectly in terms of video smooth playback and the audio is supported and synced perfectly with the video (You'll get a Notification if the Audio is not supported) then it should play perfectly with DeoVR and any other VR video players since all of them uses/ prefers the newer "Media Foundation Codecs" instead of the older "DirectShow Codecs".
2- Be sure of the video file you are playing is encoded with HEVC or AV1 and not any other garbage. Believe me, there are STILL Studios using dumb codecs for high resolution video files which are not supported by the CPU, APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) or GPU decoders. You can use "MediaInfo" to check the video codec. Avoid ANY video that's not encoded with HEVC or AV1 when its resolution is higher than 4K. Convert it yourself if necessary, to do that, I suggest the free version of "Any Video Converter" and set its decoding setting to HEVC.
3- Uninstall ANY Codecs/ Filters you have and just keep HEVC and AV1 video extensions from Microsoft Store. Sometimes you'll need third-party softwares to do this unfortunately as you should remove whatever values they left in Windows Registry, too.
4- Use a high quality cable to connect your headset to PC directly to the PC Motherboard's USB 3.0+ Port as I mentioned previously. I suggest the "JSAUX Oculus Link 2 in 1 Connector and Charger" worked great with my Q2 and still work great with Q3.
5- Be sure that both your PC hardware and OS/ Software doesn't have any conflicts or weird issues/ activities and you have the latest Pico 4 Ultra firmware and Pico Connect up to date with all its virtual audio drivers and be sure the "Direct show" is turned Off in your VR Video Player Settings.
Sorry for the long post, I know we all want a simple, short answers and quick solutions but it's not always the case unfortunately
Tell me how things turned to you after you try these steps and if we can spot the issue together.
Best of luck and best regards.
Can you guys just wrap it up what's the perfect setup and what you are watching so I can do the same to see the difference
