SLR Drive Vision and Future

I thought a lifetime option would be cool, but what is that going to look like? A normal payback period for a lifetime is 3 years so would you plunk down over $500 for LT Drive?
And I don't know how long SLR is going to have the corner on the AI PT and scripts market.

Not a lawyer here--not even an anon internet law dude--so don't take this seriously.

If similar language is used in a Drive Download Agreement, then that risk is substantially passed onto the user.

So a user would not only pay the $9.99 for the original download, they would also have to pay legal fees and associated costs if SLR were sued for copyright infringement because of the user didnt get permission from the copyright holder. The user would also likely be on the hook for any monetary damages awarded to the third party. There's probably a case for SLR to hold the violating user accountable for any non-monetary award too. Like if the court says "change your system", then the agreement could mean that the user has to pay SLR for costs associated with "change your system."

Side note: I'd guess that merely uploading copyright-protected content won't be a big deal (see every cloud storage provider in the world), but requesting that SLR AI creates derivative works such as AI PT or AI scripts from copyrighted videos may be problematic. I don't remember seeing an agreement/TOS when requesting Drive AI PT, but its probably coming.

$500.. no. And I know you just came up with that number, but its important becaues right now SLR is coming up with a number and they have to base it on something, not just "the most we can get them to pay" because that drastically limits their market, unless the goal is to sell to less people but break even with high costs. Seems like a turnoff for most people right off the bat. Forget lifetime options, if monthly is too much and doesnt provide enough, most people are not going to upgrade. Why would they? I would pay for lifetime though. Whats the charge for lifetime SLR membership? Something like $1500? Its a made up number, to make the $300 actual cost not seem so bad. $300 is a good value for unlimited streaming and site access imo btw. It pays for itself quick cause you get your money worth compared to some other sites out there. But its $300 for lifetime to a video site, that provides video content. Thats what it does. Passthrough, themes, toy scripts... these are all just added features. Its a video site #1 and they already set the price. Its $300. And if you want more than that, you can pay for another feature, like sextoy scripts. They set a price for that as well, $100 extra. So they valued lifetime toy scripts streaming at $100. This is a price I am willing to pay and dont get me wrong, $400 at once is still a good chunk of change. So now you are trying to take these 2 costs and what they provide, and come up with a roundabout number for another feature the the video site, like DRIVE. Can't cost $500.. also cant be $20. But again, you already paid for the video streaming, DRIVE is just an addon and its not necessairy to watch content on the site. $100 for lifetime scripts, an addon feature, is a metric you could use to put a value on a future site feature that honestly, may not interest many people once the high wears off. Im excited about DRIVE, Im here writing my opinion on a forum designed for opinions and feedback, but Ill say it again: there is a lot of content out there, they need to price it according to that as well. We could all go back to jerking flat mode on our phones sideways and still live fine if you know what I mean.

Shhhhh! You are not supposed to bring that up on here. But yeah some have been saying that, seems reasonable given how quickly AI is advancing. Costs tend to drop and options open up once the market is sufficiently flooded. Its already flooded, and we are just getting started.

Yeah I mean, no surprise. Its the porn industry afterall. How many times have you seen stuff ripped from one site up on another and you know damn well they did not get permission. Just a little amateur uploader on a bigger site. But with the slr drive, its really no different than how qbittorrent operates. Everything is ok and qbittorrent does not get shut down for allowing the "download of illegal content" because you are only supposed to download "legal content." Likely uploads will be heavily monitored by a third party, and your ISP emails you a copywrite infringement warning if a content creator sees the title to their video uploaded in DRIVE. Your ISP will give you a few passes, then they may cut your internet. On DRIVE though you may be streaming vs downloading, you still download a very very small file. Sometimes just a cookie, with bits worth of info. You have to inorder to initiate the 'streaming.' But you downloaded it. Maybe not the whole video, but the keythat granted you access. Yeah, so many have said just what you have: sorta, how can they legally do this? Just as you said, pass it on to you like other torrent platforms do.

Another side to it is they may make drive 100% locked down for "privacy of the user" which is not a bad idea. Who cares maybe I want to upload some non-porn just for fun or private family videos. IDK just saying. A third party would never know what I upload. But again I have no idea, its just another angle

I for one like the idea of the drive space. It was a bit wonky at the start but I have been able to sort things out. Few of my personal items:

1. The first issue I ran in to was that the videos I was uploading were just outside of the size limit. Which was strange, cause I could upload and stream but couldn’t request any Ai. It would be nice to have an automated pop up “this video is too large for Ai” or in a perfect world offer to scale the video for you when you request Ai.

2. I know a lot has been said on the pricing already but my opinion is that: it’s great to offer the monthly for people who really want to take advantage of the services. The monthly subscription for the drive just won’t fit my needs. As someone else said, I would love to see a one-time offer that increases the base storage by a bit. It could also be done where the increase in storage applies even if you later switch to monthly. Ex: you mentioned 500gb/monthly but if you ever bought the one-time offer it would effectively be 550gb total storage (assuming the one-time bump is 50gb).

3. I tried to upload a video from my mobile device, went terribly haha. It would constantly just stop uploading. On a positive note, I was really happy to see that you could pick up where you left off even when switching over to PC. In the defense of the drive, the uploads speeds where I live aren’t the greatest.

4. Lastly, one of my favorite parts of the drive is trimming out all the BS in the videos I am uploading. Being able to just chop it out before uploading was great and easy to do.

This really changes the value perspective a lot. Not having to worry about failed renders, or usage limits is a big deal. I'm now much more excited about SLR drive.

Still think the downloads should be 5€ max though. 10€ a scene for AI passthrough + script is already insanely expensive if you ask me. I would never use it at 20€ a scene, not even for my all time favorite scenes.

Hairsational You are right. Which is why its important to write yourself out of it if you are a service provider. The 'fine print' makes it someone elses problem if there is a problem

where are you seeing that? And its worded kinda funky. "Only AI passthroug and scripts".. yeah I mean drive is designed for AI passthrough and scripts, what else would unlimited streaming be for?

It's not much different than people uploading copyrighted videos onto Google Drive or Dropbox (which has been a thing since forever). So long as they are not shared then there is likely no issue

I like that SLR is creative -

You try lots of new things, but for me they broadly fit into two categories

1 ) Your devs and team are having fun and pushing the boundaries. Our membership "investment" in SLR ends up with new impressive features and of course a steady stream of new content

2 ) Your marketing people are brainstorming about how to get more money because your regular subscribers /members are not providing you with enough money.

I am a big fan of (1), but I feel there are a lot of things you come up with which are 100% in category (2), Weaning us onto some new "value add" product and bleeding us like we are trapped pigs in a factory farm

I dont use anything but the most vanilla streaming in DeoVR (with downloads), but I do get concerned when I read that there will be a new tier, or that something super-basic like bluetooth support will be dropped

@doublevr on what date do the credits recharge each month?

fuccaneer Yes, the third party studio would sue SLR directly, but the agreement the user would have signed would put them on the hook for any costs associated with SLR being sued by the third party studio

And how do you think SLR gets the users to pay for the lawyers? If another VR porn company sued SLR over copyright then you think SLR will sue everybody that put videos on the cloud?
I'm not saying that they will get sued but I don't see how they would ever get the customers to pay for the defence team.
