  • Upcoming price and download limit change

SLR's download limits are very gracious. If you need to download hundreds of scenes a month, please realize there is a good chance a site like SLR that not only produces its own content, but monthly pays royalties out to studios may in fact lose money. Porn, as crazy as it may sound, does not grow on trees.

Per pricing, do note the economy is not in a good shape. Netflix now is in shooting distance of being the same price as an adult paysite in spite of them getting MUCH better processing rates and having magnitudes more users. That smaller sites (and yes, compared to Netflix, SLR is a small site) and especially those in our industry can hold the fort at pricing the way they have been over the years (or decades now) should be seen as commendable.

    Data hoarder is a term you use for your customers now? Misusing? Users only ever operate within the confines that your system has established. The lack of foresight on such obvious matters should have been thought out more thoroughly instead.

    I'm a lifer... so THIS proposed decrease doesn't affect me..

    But when I signed up here, for life, my download limit was advertised as double what it is now. I still want what I paid for. That's one of the main reasons I paid here and not elsewhere. I've since gotten an additional lifetime sub elsewhere and I get up to 20 every single day (much more than I can or want to use there most days.. but it's there if/when I decide to use it.. I like that flexiblity). The download limits are already the lowest here, but as long as you give people what is advertised at the time they pay, I'm fine with it. Then it's the customer's choice to decide if the offer is right for them for the price.

    One observation: It's likely that you're experiencing more downloads than usual this month due to the release of Quest 3. I've downloaded films for the obvious reason that streaming at Quest 3 quality results in significant network lagging (some months I don't download much).

    One suggestion: Bandwidth costs are lower than studio costs, I'm guessing. I'd suggest that you permit unlimited downloads of the SLR Originals films, since once a film is made you pay no royalties on distribution.

    One further observation: What about films you've downloaded that turned out to be broken, and unwatchable. For instance, the SLR Originals Sex Shop film has a dirty lens. Five or more of the recent films from BaberoticaVR have lens blur for one of the lenses.

    I recall suggesting at one point a $10.00 tier, for either unlimited streaming or 30 downloads (and valid for only one month). That's what you need in this economy.

            It also removes all users like myself forced to travel for at least one month of the year. I can't speak for others, but in my case it's not data hording. I download stuff, view it in high quality, and then, in most cases, delete stuff.

              I didn't download the massive original files before getting Quest 3. With Quest 3 there's a visible difference between the "original files" and processed / compressed files.

                  I can't be the only person who assumed that option was there to trick folks who don't subscribe to sites like this. Most sites like this use a similar tier to catch noobs.

                  Whatever you do, I wouldn't advise you to increase the price in this economy. Reduce service, if that's necessary, but increasing the price will only lead to fewer users. Currently POVR is offering a very competitive plan of $15.00 per month, with some non-3D sites like ALSScan reduced to $9.99 for Black Friday. Heck, BadoinkVR is at $9.99 per month, and they have a massive library of films.

                    ZENRA What you are proposing does not shock me; if I accept I buy, if it doesn't suit me, I'll look elsewhere; for me 30 downloads every 6 days is enough: I don't do streaming and since I have a lifetime subscription, I haven't downloaded a lot (much less than 30 every 6 days); on the other hand, this must not change over time of course; I subscribed for life for 30 downloads, it must stay that way.

                      Quest 2 was terrible. I could hardly see anything with that device, and it gave me headaches.

                      Quest 3 is a real headset for non-gaming VR experiences. The software needs work, but it's very usable.

                      I can see the difference between compressed and original files with Quest 3.

                      I really hope this isn't my fault for this limit change. I downloaded quite a bit this month, basically all the films I downloaded in previous months at compressed resolution.

                            That was the game of the notorious GirlsDoPorn. I was never a victim of their scam, but they used to require two months of subscription to download 4K content and BTS scenes. In addition, these "elite" users would gain access to the complaint e-mails submitted to them by their models. That decision didn't turn out to be such a smart idea.

                                You can get 30 day access for 32.99. You can get a monthly recurring subcription for 24.99. If you take the latter and cancel in the first month, you will have 30 day access for 24.99 instead of 32.99. As soon as you realise this, it would be stupid to pay a higher price for the same thing.

                                    [deleted] Depending on the clarity of the 'original' file, I think you could. If for example skin texture looked super sharp in the 'original', sharpness was less pronounced in the compressed file. On the other hand, there are many 'original files' in which skin texture seems already unsharp, so in those videos the difference didn't matter that much. Moreover, some studios already provide original files that are fairly compressed with a bitrate of 50 Mbps. After the SLR treatment and another round of compression, the streaming files will have only 22 Mbps, and for sure this makes a difference.

                                    Talking about skin texture sharpness: Alex Mack isn't getting a lot of love around here, but some of his latest SLRO productions have the most superior image quality among all SLRO, at least for my weary eyes (e.g. the scenes with Aubree Valentine, Danielle Renae, Chloe Amour/Sisi Rose).

                                      Most companies do that, and regular purchasers of porn know about this. The point is to trick folks new to paying for their porn. My point is that they need to keep the price competitive. I think $19.99 is fair price for what you get at SLR, whether that is for one month or several. Sometimes users download many films in one month, and in other months they download next to nothing. Additionally, folks jump in and out of different accounts, so someone who may look like a new user may actually be an old-timer who just changes their credentials and e-mail every so often.

                                          There is no misuse if you offer it this way. If this is actually the main problem, it will not be fixed by reducing download limits for long-term loyal customers. If you want people to pay more for 30 day access than for monthly recurring, you need to pay out the rebate in the second month or set the min. term to two months.

                                              I'd probably stop subscribing to SLR if they did this. I'd recommend a price of $19.00, ignoring this one-month only / subscription tier, just with a reduced download limit of half of the regular content and more downloads of SLR Originals productions. That would make the most sense, since SLR doesn't have to pay royalties on their own productions and bandwidth costs would be under the subscription fee. I'd also recommend that they enhance the reliability of their servers, since more than 50% of downloads are corrupted and need to be re-downloaded. Their competition, POVR, is more reliable in this respect, and they can offer unlimited downloads since they know how to limit users to one download at a time.

                                                    [deleted] To be fair, when I still downloaded using a browser I had trouble with all VR sites, either downloads breaking up and not resumable or slow speeds. This all ended when I started using a download manager. You should try, saves you a lot of trouble.
