doublevr Firstly, I commend you for starting this thread. Thank you for listening and I hope this is the beginning of a new chapter where SLR and customers work hand in hand.

As for what I prefer about Heresphere, here are a few things:
1) Autoplay only selected tags
Once I've time tagged my favourite positions (missionary & cowgirl), I'm able to tell Heresphere to only play those sections. It automatically skips the parts of the video I don't like.

2) More natural zoom
There are many scenes on SLR that don't offer a good full body view. I'm forced to zoom out if I want a good view of the body/legs and the face at the same time. When I zoom out on Heresphere, the scene looks far more natural than when I zoom out on DeoVR. Sometimes, I can barely notice that it's a zoomed out shot.

3) More control over video settings and the ability to save your presets
Heresphere gives you a lot more control over how you'd like your video. And importantly, I can save multiple presets. I have a few go-to presets and it's as easy as clicking a button to adjust multiple settings.

    @doublevr Appreciate your initiative to start this thread. I've used a lot of apps over the years and never thought DeoVR was a bad app. In fact it replaced skybox at some point and I loved how much better it was back then. However, nowadays I definitely prefer HereSphere for quite a lot of reasons. I still use DeoVR but mostly to quickly "scan" new video's and determine what I want to download or when I want to watch passthrough on Pico 4.

    If I had to summarize why I prefer HereSphere it would be this: Optimal visual fidelity is the number one factor for me and I think HereSphere is a clear winner here. Secondly, I want to manage my content (from SLR and other sources) my own way and HereSphere allows me to do just that.

    So without further delay, these are my reasons:

    • Better image quality - I'm not really sure why but video just looks better on HereSphere to me. If I had to guess it's the auto focus in combination with the default sharpening but maybe there is more at play here. Image quality is probably the single most important factor to me.
    • Auto focus - This one is very important to me as well as I like closeups and JAV. A lot of video's like that simply will get major double vision without it. It also allows you to tilt your head (again without double vision) and it will make things less blurry when focused (better image quality). Some of my favourite parts in VrEdging movies for instance are pretty much unwatchable due to the double vision in DeoVR. This one is VERY important to me.
    • Seek speed for local files - Seeking through LOCAL videos is much faster in HereSphere than on DeoVR (PC version seeking on Pico4 is a lot better for some reason). With this I mean clicking on the seekbar and the amount of time it takes for the video to "catch up". As I tend to do this a lot it's actually a pretty big deal to me.
    • Sharpening is better - I think sharpening is one of the most valuable settings to improve the quality of a video. I think the sharpening just looks a little better in HereSphere. Also in DeoVR it's very hard to hone in on a good value as the values go too far in the extremes (the range should be less broad).
    • Performance - I haven't tested this in a while but it used to be I could play the original VrAllure files (with 100% super sampling on Pimax 8kx with my RTX 2070) on HereSphere and not on DeoVR. DeoVR would become pretty much become unresponsive when I tried to play these vids.
    • Integrates with all other studios - SLR is my favourite studio but I'm also subbed at PoVR and CzechVR. I really just want a single player for all my subs and not a separate player for every site I subscribe to. HereSphere offers better support for streaming here (things like actors, tags, etc. which in DeoVR seem to be only accessible for SLR) but personally it's the the library management that I care about (see below).
    • Will integrate with PoVR scripts - In the near future HereSphere will integrate with scripts from PoVR. (I just whish there was a single place to watch my scripts. Whether they are local funscripts, from SLR scripts subscription, from PoVR, handy script tokens or whatever. Now I'm forced to switch apps and streaming services to get everything to work. This annoys me to no end honestly.)
    • XBVR - I gather you don't like XBVR at SLR and even though I personally don't use it it's definitely a feature a lot of people seem to want and HereSphere has tight integration with it.
    • Custom library management - There is also a lot more options for those who want to manage their library their own way. With things like tagging, timestamps, actors, playlists, etc. all for local files.
    • Reorienting tilt in all planes - When I want to align myself to the video you can press a button in both HereSphere and in DeoVR. HereSphere aligns all planes though where DeoVR does not. This makes it harder to align yourself. A bit of a nit-pick but still.
    • Timestamps for settings - HereSphere allows you to set settings for a specific part of a video. E.g. from 10:20 to 13:40 you can set a different zoom level as for the rest of the video.
    • Creating custom tags / timestamps - I like that you can create custom tags/timestamps (so either a specific part of the video or a general tag) in HereSphere and then search / organize on them.
    • "Decoupled browser" - I like that you can use the browser while watching video (at least for local vids).
    • Extensive 2D support - HereSphere has a lot of nice options for 2D movies as well.
    • Override defaults for any setting - You can override the default for any setting. For instance I've overwritten the default sharpen value of 2 to 4.
    • Precise seeking - It's very hard to seek a little to the left or right in the seekbar on DeoVR as the input is blocked by the dot.
    • Set Xbox controls separately - HereSphere allows for more controller settings / mapping of pretty much any setting. Since I use an Xbox controller to control my Handy it's very annoying that I cannot disable input to DeoVR from my Xbox controller.
    • Resolution multiplier - HereSphere has a resolution multiplier which is a convenient way to super sample a little for videos that have some performance headroom left.
    • Expert settings - I always like it when software allows you to go in depth when you need it. A good example is that HereSphere sometimes allows you to fix a broken video and make it watchable. Don't use this a lot but I like that it's there.

      My favorite HS features are:

      My most used feature is moving the scene (changing the angle of view) by holding the trigger button. This allows me to quickly change the angle several times per scene when the camera and, for example, the actor's dick don't line up with my position.

      Autofocus helps with double vision of close objects. I don't use it all the time, but I have it assigned to a button so I can quickly turn on autofocus when a close object requires it. You can also adjust the transition speed and accuracy of the autofocus to reduce the effects that cause your headache.

      Some of the advanced settings also help to reduce scaling problems. It can't to miracles, but at least make some of the videos with IDP problems (huge actors) more bearable.

      Better integration with XBVR (e.g. synchronizing star ratings), but I guess you are not interested in going in that direction.

      That said, I don't consider DeoVR a bad player. It still works fine and has many useful features like the meta data and cue points. I just miss the features mentioned above every time I switch between the two players.

      if you really want to know where deovr falls short just use heresphere exclusively for a month and then try switching back to deovr. you may start off thinking deovr is better but once you try going back its a real shock at how clunky it is. there are lots of little things that hs does better - too many to list here - and they all add up.

        I agree with all of your points but these are the most important ones for me. These points are primarily responsible for me using HS almost exclusively now for all VR porn from all studios.

        It's worth to mention that full sharpening was only recently relesased for the Oculus version of HS while it is available on Steam for quite some time now.

        I need to add though that I rarely stream. 98% of the time I watch downloaded files from my local drives. IMO HS is especially valuable for everyone using local files and who want to enjoy VR in the best possible way, hence it's the tool of choice for most enthusiasts. I get that DeoVR or SLR app is neat for the mainstream who might not care about library management or expert settings and only want to use a streamlined, simple to use tool. But the enthusiasts among us want the best there is and tbh, the better video quality due to better auto adjustment, auto-zoom and sharpening would be of benefit for everybody.

            doublevr i told you how to identify a lot of issues not what those issues are.

              6 dof is part of the player that really makes a difference to me. If you move your head the picture is not static.

              You can set multiple setting with an xbox controller by using layered buttons. For deo app I don't have enough buttons to put all the setting on the controller. Because of that I have to pull up the menu to move the slide to the left or right all the time. You want to talk about immersion breaking.

              doublevr Please suggest things you like about HS that you don't find on pars in Deo.

              The main things for me as to why I prefer HereSphere:

              1. Handy scripts automatically adjust and sync to playback speed. That means, if I watch a scene at 75% speed, the Handy script adjusts on the fly and stays in sync. Super cool for edging scenarios.
              2. Mouse support! I've been requesting this for years... but since I am a PC VR user, I like to use my mouse to scroll down windows (file lists), move my cursor around to point and click on videos and any UI features, etc. In DeoVR/SLR on the PC, I still have to move around my head in order to point the center cursor on something to click on. I even have to do that to move the scroll bar! Save my neck muscles please 😿
              3. Less nested UI. I still am not pleased with how Deo changed their UI and made so many basic settings/options nested. That combined with no mouse support, I just give up changing any options like playback speed, zoom in/out, sharpness, etc. Previously, I've been told to use the controller to map these functions, but as I've stated before, the controller does not have the ability to save any presets on the PC version. Nothing I do to my controller presets ever works, so it makes the controller useless for me. In HS, there is one menu that you can bring up that has everything front and center. yes it may be ugly and a wall of settings, but it's easy for me to get to what I want to change as quickly as possible.

                I don’t see a huge difference between the two to be honest but then I don’t really use the huge amount of available adjustments on Heresphere. I’m more of a click play and watch person. I think the colours are more vibrant on Heresphere but that’s about it. I’ve never used DeoVR for watching downloaded content so I’m just comparing streaming on Deo and streaming on Heresphere. I do now use Heresphere and XBVR instead of Skybox though for watching downloads and it is far superior.

                For streaming then, I don’t see a massive difference other than there’s lots more things you can tweak and adjust if you’re that way inclined. You obviously have to take into account though that one is a free player and the other will cost you $30. For downloads, I’ve never used DeoVR so I can’t compare.

                It’s also worth mentioning that one is in the Oculus store and updates automatically whereas the other you have to sideload and have to uninstall/reinstall to get the latest updated version. That’s if you’re even aware that it has updated. It’s not the easiest thing to do if you’re not very computer savvy.

                Every discussion about Heresphere feels like when people used to talk about downloading FLAC files because they were so much better than MP3s. I constantly feel like I'm missing something or doing it wrong because I don't find it to be as game-changing as everyone else does. I'm also someone with incredibly basic needs when it comes to VR so that probably has a lot to do with it too. I load up HS and just looking at the menus feels like doing homework. It's incredibly unintuitive.

                The auto-focus is an obvious plus but I don't find myself missing it when it's not there. The other stuff, as far as image enhancements go, I genuinely can't tell the difference at all. People on Reddit were losing their minds about the new sharpening feature and talking like it suddenly made all of the old 4K scenes look crystal clear but I just don't see it.

                TBH I think a lot of the goodwill comes from the fact that they seem to be constantly tweaking the software/listening to feedback and have a much more consumer-friendly reputation than SLR does.

                  You try the motion slider? Move it all the way to left and barley move your head in to zoom In to certain parts of body parts. That how the deo 6dof should work, it's just needs more zoom %

                  And hs sharpen is pretty good, deos sharpen is good but could be a Lil better 🤏

                  Hs has smb support, and I'm hoping deo supports smb soon so I can use pt on my computer files.

                  But other then that, it's a cool player but will it be my go to to use on vr videos, nah

                  Honestly, I really wasn't blown away by it, maybe I was expecting a lot considering so much positive feed back it has gotten.

                  petergriff i found it unintuitive to use at first because of the unfamilarity combined with all the knobs that can be tweaked. its a lot to take in. after some use it became much more efficient to use than deovr where there is so much friction and you have to go through multiple menus to change anything. its way ahead of deo for making scenes watchable when they suffer from scaling and other issues too.. somehow there are still a lot of new scenes like that in 2023. with deo most scenes like that are unfixable.

                  its almost like comparing photoshop (hs) to ms paint (deovr). hs is more powerful and flexible. things it does it tends to do well. fast and easy to get things done especially as a power user.

                  if you are only loading up sexlikereal.com for basic watching of some videos and are oblivious to all the things that could be improved you wont see any of the use cases where hs really shines.

                    Almost forgot, Heresphere has subtitle support. I auto generate these for JAV files all the time. Really nice to finally know what they are saying (there is some weird and creative stuff there haha)

                      LordCrash totally agree with this. Heresphere is mostly an enthousiast player. Even more so because it's 30 bucks and deovr is free. Also agree that this doesn't mean Deovr could take some good points from it though.

                        Would you mind sharing what methods/tools you are using for this?

                            UI customizations.
                            Been asking to be able to zoom out the UI much further for as long I can remember.
                            Having to turn your head to use the UI is very annoying, you can never see the whole UI at once.

                            Imagine you're playing a game, and to see the map you have to turn your head all the way to the left, but to change the map options, you have to turn your head all the way to the right.

                            I'm not asking to change the defaults, just that we can zoom it out more.
