I'm actually surprised there isn't a spike in downloads after the whole CC ordeal, has definitely made me more conscious of videos I wanna make sure stick around.
doublevr Downloads are still rising though. Cool.
doesnt show anything surprising... streaming just more convenient for the majority who dont own a computer and storage
I watch a download multiple times(usually over 10 times) but it only shows up as 1 download.
When I stream and watch multiple times it gets added up.
albertleder likewise you might only stream whatever seconds and you might never open a file that you downloaded
albertleder when I look at my VR download library, the lion’s share is content from other studios with no ties to SLR. And most of that now is CVR and NA (two studios that I can’t lifetime sub). My SLR download library is a handful of originals that I’d absolutely want to be able to access when circumstances prevent me from streaming. That used to be when my Internet was down, but sadly with the recent move to the 190 deg format, that collection is going to have to start growing now too. Hopefully the team can find some way to make files from new rig stream compatible to all the headsets as we’ll probably be waiting awhile yet for an improved Quest and/or introduction of Apple headset. Isn’t seeming very likely though </sigh>

That theory makes no sense at all, sorry. There is not point in sharing VR porn with anybody for the HUGE majority of people who download content.
Downloading videos is for people (like me) who want maximum quality while being independent from internet, service provider and content availabiltiy. SLR can always decide that this scene or that scene won't be available anymore tomorrow, just like every other streaming service out there like Netflix. The whole streaming industry is based on the goodwill and caprice of the streaming providers and the stuff you like in their service today might be gone for good tomorrow. Every scene I download today is mine forever though. I can watch it 24/7 without internet connection, without access to SLR and I'll still be able to watch it once SLR might have gone out of business one day...
gurphh Just curious... what's on the Y axis? Is it "video count" (and if so, what happens when the user stops and resumes, later or directly), or is it some time unit, like "minutes".
the axis isnt labelled so it can be whatever you want it to be
presumably its bytes of data
spacepirate presumably its bytes of data
Yeah, possibly. Didn't even think of that one.
doublevr it's time watched vs video downloads.
The point is that streaming grows and downloads aren't
that’s an apples to tennis shoes comparison though. you guys have forced me to download your last three scenes since I cannot stream them any longer (unless of course the mood strikes to watch my porn through a turned around telescope). So in the case of the Mean Girls release, that’s one download, except I’ve already watched that one download for five hours, something you’ve got zero way to measure, but very germane to your comparison. And the truth is, your download volumes are only going to grow with your move to exclude people with older hardware from streaming your latest original scenes.
For your comparison metrics to come close to meaning anything here, I guess I should download the scene each time I want to watch it ?
I think it’s safe to conclude that the steeper slope on the streaming graph just means your content is getting a lot better, and it is. As I recall you guys started started standing out via SLRO content with the cheerleader threesome. You’ve frustratingly removed actual dates from your scene history, so difficult to see if that scene coincides exactly with the separation of the stream vs. download slopes, but looks like I downloaded that scene early Feb of 2020 so the timing does look to agree with your chart, and I’ve also streamed that one plenty!
I do seriously doubt any trained statistician would ever agree with the conclusion you seem to want to make about downloads. I certainly hope you’re not trying to make the case to remove downloads here. Especially now with this move to 190deg format.
Streams will always be way higher than downloads now that streaming is decent quality. Even if you are someone (like me) who does download your favourite scenes to keep them, you’ll still have streamed it first to see if it’s worth downloading so, at the very least it’s one stream and one download. You’ll also have streamed hundreds of scenes that you ultimately decide aren’t good enough to download. There’s also times when I just can’t be bothered getting the laptop out, plugging in external hard drives etc. I just switch the Quest 2 on and stream the scene instead.
doublevr The point is that streaming grows and downloads aren't
Regardless of how true that is, I get the feeling you want us to move towards less downloading and more streaming. If so, why? I mean, it's not like we who mainly download will suddenly end our subscription and only watch our downloaded files. Right? Personally I can't see myself ever watching mainly streams, for many reasons. So please don't go too far with this. I will leave if you do.
