hentfreak77 For me I commonly let kids use my headset for gaming. DeoVR is more of just a media player, whereas for SLR if they ever wanted to look that up they would obviously know it's purpose is for porn.

hentfreak77 you can download your scenes and save to a hard drive and stream those to your headset at anytime regardless if your subscription to SLR is expired or not.
For example: I have over 10TBs of VR porn from all sites on 1 hard drive that's plugged into my laptop. I then use DNLA with a free media server like Plex.tv to access my content I bought. So on my headset I go to DEOvr then click DNLA and I can see my entire library wirelessly in my room. This is called local streaming and allows you to watch 8K quality with no buffering and uses less headset battery which allows for longer sessions.

Skybox now apparently have functionality for 200 degree fisheye videos although I haven’t personally tried it as I’m yet to download any SLR Originals as they’re so easy to stream and I don’t see myself cancelling SLR any time soon.

petermc I have a lifetime sub, and do generally stream. However, sometimes my Internet goes down or sometimes I’m downloading content from NA or CVR or elsewhere. If my download manager is running, trying to access SLR in my headset continually times out and that’s when I switch to DLNA and enjoy something from my library. A lot of the time now that would be a juicy SLRO scene that I’ve downloaded. Porn connoisseurs tend to be porn collectors after all. Sadly when DEO lost DLNA, my SLRO scenes were no longer open as a local streaming option. So yes, I can easily switch over to Skybox and watch an awesome NA scene. It is true that I can fisheye a SLRO 200 deg scene in that player. It’s definitely not as good an experience as in DEO though.

I have no interest installing the SLR app for the reason that was mentioned above. Someone will eventually recognize it as a porn app and that’s a conversation I can do without in my life. So it is my hope that SLR would just return DLNA to DEO as an experimental and unsupported feature. I calmly asked for that several weeks ago when this topic was far more contentious, but it wasn’t very well received then. So, I’ll quietly bring it back up just this one time more and hope it will be reconsidered: Please re-add DLNA as an experimental, unsupported feature in DeoVR player. If for whatever reason this just extends beyond the realm of possibility, oh well, first world problems.

argyle43 sorry, I wasn’t trying to tell you to just stream stuff. Was just explaining why I haven’t tried the new Skybox 200 degree functionality yet. If it doesn’t work so well, like you say, then that sucks for those who do watch a lot of downloaded SLR stuff like yourself.

petermc oh no. I actually only meant to answer you about the Skybox playback for 200 deg, but then I got long winded about it as I tend to do, and started directing my points to the SLR team.

        4 months later

Just wondering if there are still plans to add support for the SVAKOM devices? Unfortunately, I can't even do the workaround since I don't have a VR capable pc 🙁

Does someone mind a quick ELI5 for DLNA and its usefulness? Not familiar with what it functionally means

bamjus dlna is tech that lets you easily share media content like photos, music and videos between devices. the most common use for it is sharing content from a computer to a tv.

in a vr context you can use it to share videos that are stored on some other device with your vr headset. its great for people who download vids instead of streaming them over the internet. standalone headsets like the quest dont have much internal storage so its best to store downloaded vids on a computer. with dlna you can create a library of vids on your computer that can be streamed to your headset.

its a bit less convenient that streaming over the internet but its the best way to watch because vids load quicker and you can watch the highest quality versions your internet connection might not be capable of streaming.

spacepirate oh wow. understood. does it run funscripts as well? thanks so much for taking the time to write out an explanation!

            doublevr
Downloads work with a single click. I simply click "download" button once for the file I want to have on my drives and then I double click on the file on my drives whenever I want to watch it. On my drives I can sort and arrange VR porn how I see it fit, not only for SLR scenes but for all scenes from all kind of sites. No stupid online searches needed, no changes between different sites needed, no time wasted for bullshit. Watching porn really can't get much easier than that.

And that's just one FACTUAL reason why downloads are better than streaming no matter which fake metric you come up with and no matter how much you push streaming solely for your own good.

Streaming in VR is shit, especially for dedicated fans with good headsets who are not satisfied with streaming quality. And it's definitely shit for everybody who doesn't want to surrender themselves to your goodwill and the goodwill of their ISPs.

doublevr that’s a highly skewed graph. Of course streams are much higher. Every scene someone downloads, they will also have streamed first to see if it’s worth downloading so downloading will never be higher. You will then stream hundreds more scenes that you decide aren’t worth downloading. I’ve streamed thousands more scenes than I’ve downloaded purely because most of the scenes that I stream I don’t like enough to bother downloading. I still do download everything that I love.

If I wanted to, I could take from that graph that most of the scenes on here are so poor that no one wants to download them. That they stream them and decide they are not worth downloading. I’m not saying that is really what is happening but it’s easy to interpret that data in different ways.

We’ve also seen that scenes can be removed with zero notice if SLR suddenly decide it’s a risk to leave them on so downloading your favourite scenes is an essential option to have as the site may decide to take it away from you.

If a user only streams, possibly he streams his favorites scenes dozens of times. A download only counts as one.

If I am suscribed to SLR, it is because I can download. I will never pay for only-streaming porn.

That graph was showing watched time of streams vs downloads, it's comparing two completely different metrics seemingly on the same scale. Almost as if to push people more towards streaming because downloads are dying, it's absurd.

doublevr Why do you guys hate downloading so much? I can't stream as high of video quality as I can watch downloaded. I read your how to increase streaming thing and the only thing I had not tried was a VPN. So I now have a subscription to one but I don't think it did anything. If you want to fix the worlds streaming speeds that would be great but really why do you hate downloads?
