  • AV1 Is Now Live on SexLikeReal!

We’re excited to share that AV1 video playback is officially live https://www.sexlikereal.com/tags/av1-vr

Works great with Quest 3S / 3 and desktop Nvidia 30xx +, you can now experience our growing library in AV1 quality:

We’re transcoding the entire library to AV1, so more AV1 content is on the way.
SLR Originals are now mastered in AV1 for the best possible image quality and performance. h265 will be available as well.

AV1 Download Option is coming soon.

Give it a try and let us know.

doublevr I checked a few of thee videos on that link you posted. But when I click download I only see H264 and H265 !?!

      doublevr This is Incredible!

Please, if you can share the SLR Encoding team experience with it compared to H.265/HEVC and the time it takes to encode, as I read it requires up to 3x the encoding time of H.265/HEVC using the same resolution and bitrate but results in higher visual quality and a smaller file size compared to HEVC if I recall.

Also, I'm curious how you'll encode the Original/ High bitrate video files using AV1. Which method Please?

1- Encoding the Raw VR Camera file directly to AV1 using PC Hardware and Software.
2- The VR Camera you use can encode and output in AV1 format.
3- The VR Camera encodes and output in H.265/HEVC, then Re-encoding with AV1.

Maybe writing a blog about this, as it will be a joy to read and learn from.

      Best Regards.

VRXVR Camera output format is whatever they have it set to on the camera. The editors then output the master file encoded with AV1 once they have finished editing. All the other files are then generated from the master file.

VRXVR we are still waiting for av1 cameras. For time being these will be rendered with video editing software that we provide as 200Mbps "Original"

            Hairsational Thank you so much!

As I was researching about this, I didn't find any VR Camera that can encode and output in AV1 format directly. All of their outputs are in either H.264/AVC or H.265/HEVC.
I think they didn't support AV1 in VR Cameras because of the long time it takes to encode?

Your statement makes the most sense. Many thanks again!

              doublevr Greeting good Sir!

              200Mbps! This is Absolutely Amazing!!!
My god, I think your AV1 video quality will be astonishing for both Original and Stream files!

"we are still waiting for av1 cameras"
Yes, I was just replying about this and when I posted the reply, the page refreshed then I saw your post.

Do you think there will be ever a VR Camera that supports AV1, because of its long encoding time, I mean?

Anyway, I'm very exited about this Codec and what the incredible SLR Encoding team will surprise us with!

Best of luck and best regards!

VRXVR I think they didn't support AV1 in VR Cameras because of the long time it takes to encode?

VR cameras need to be able to capture, encode, and save high resolution footage very fast, so simpler codecs like h264 and h265 would be preferred for that. The output files also need to be fast and easy to work with when editing, so usually the cameras aren't trying to compress them much.

                  Hairsational Great explanation!
AV1 is very taxing to be used for VR Cameras for now at least, makes sense for sure.
Thanks for your insight Good Sir!

VRXVR new cameras starting this year are going to be av1

doublevr Nice! Thank you so much for this info!
                    Respectfully.

@doublevr great that you guys keep h265 as well, as my $3500 AVP can't decode AV1, damn Apple.

What does this mean, videos will look higher quality? Normal headset streaming or PCVR?

                    What about file sizes?

jommy Videos will look higher quality for both streaming and Original files
and smaller in size compared to H.265

Very excited to try this! I primarily use SLR with downloads on PC for my Pimax 8kx with Nvidia 3080, so I will wait for the AV1 download files so I can really A-B compare.

VRXVR Not necessarily both higher quality and smaller size. It may be more like one or the other because of the trade-off involved and the decisions made. Anyone hoping that it will result in a significant quality increase is going to be disappointed either way I think.

                          Hairsational Damn, I hope not!!!

Although I'm biased to the Original files to be as high quality as possible. I also seriously hope the Stream (Re-encode) files be a higher in quality too compared to H.265. Because that will be a great balance for most if not all the users with Quest 3+ headsets or Nvidia 30+ series GPUS and AMD equivalents on the PC side.

So, yeah. I really hope not my friend.

SLR, Please make the BEST outcome quality for both Original and Stream files! Seriously guys, don't screw this!!!

                          Respectfully.

What is AV1 and how does it benefit users? I do not know what this is.
