  • AV1 Is Now Live on SexLikeReal!

Hairsational Great explanation!
AV1 is very taxing to be used for VR Cameras for now at least, makes sense for sure.
Thanks for your insight Good Sir!

VRXVR new cameras starting this year are going to be av1

doublevr Nice! Thank you so much for this info!
    Respectfully.

@doublevr great that you guys keep h265 as well, as my $3500 AVP can't decode AV1, damn Apple.

What does this mean, videos will look higher quality? Normal headset streaming or PCVR?

    What about file sizes?

jommy Videos will look higher quality for both streaming and Original files
and smaller in size compared to H.265

Very excited to try this! I primarily use SLR with downloads on PC for my Pimax 8kx with Nvidia 3080, so I will wait for the AV1 download files so I can really A-B compare.

VRXVR Not necessarily both higher quality and smaller size. It may be more like one or the other because of the trade-off involved and the decisions made. Anyone hoping that it will result in a significant quality increase is going to be disappointed either way I think.

          Hairsational Damn, I hope not!!!

Although I'm biased to the Original files to be as high quality as possible. I also seriously hope the Stream (Re-encode) files be a higher in quality too compared to H.265. Because that will be a great balance for most if not all the users with Quest 3+ headsets or Nvidia 30+ series GPUS and AMD equivalents on the PC side.

So, yeah. I really hope not my friend.

SLR, Please make the BEST outcome quality for both Original and Stream files! Seriously guys, don't screw this!!!

          Respectfully.

What is AV1 and how does it benefit users? I do not know what this is.

            ttv34 AV1 is a new Video Codec.

A video codec is what used to compress/ decompress digital videos which usually very large in size when they are in their RAW/ Original format from the Cameras or CGI Projects.

It will benefit users by providing a higher quality video than older/ previous Codecs if it's done in the same bitrate, or providing a similar video quality if it's done in lower bitrate compared to these older/ previous Codecs which results in a smaller video size.

In general, if it's done right, the videos will be higher in quality and smaller in size compared to older video codecs.

            Best Regards.

doublevr This sounds 🔥. When on SLR via DeoVR Quest3 AI PT streaming, is it all video resolutions that are AV1? Or just the highest one?

renstimpy11 You can choose in the DeoVR quick settings whether streams are h265 or AV1. Either option has a variety of resolutions which are not necessarily identical. There are currently some scenes that are tagged AV1 but only have h265 streams.

VRXVR awesome thanks! So better quality and faster download/streaming, yay

                    ttv34 Exactly! And you're most welcome 🙂

Vrsumo2017 The only indicator there is when playing a video is in the DeoVR quick settings (first item with the lightning symbol in the right hand menu).

If your headset supports AV1 you'll get it by default. The same for your desktop browser.

Hairsational people fall for the hype just like they did for 265 back in the day until they realized they had to upgrade their hardware most of the time to even get smooth playback haha Sure a 30 series card is not cutting edge but a ton of people are still well below that on their PC builds. I will wait to see how the original quality AV1 files play back on my PC before I make my decision to stop paying for this site. If it works I might stick around but I am not expecting a bump in any quality at all.

metichemsi It reall depends on what SLR is going to do. If they use it to just make smaller vids, the quality will stay the same. If they keep file size the same, the quality will go up, easy as that. But you'll need a capable headset anyway to notice the difference.

Too bad that THE highest quality headset out there, the AVP, doesn't support AV1 ...
