metichemsi lol! oh, you mean the asshole from WEF? fuck'em!!!
I do want to own my stuff! I have my own business, I have a car and recently bought a new better home. I love them and I do want to keep them! no one can take my physical stuff from me!
as for the digital side of things. I used to own stuff too! like video games DVDs, blu-ray films and porn DVDs too!
it was great at first but with time they started to take physical and digital space, started to waste my time to keep them working with every new gen of hardware and transfer them in order to work (like ripping the DVDs). etc.
they became a burden to me. even PC gaming became awful to me. too many launchers/accounts/ crashes/ pop-ups/ layers to deal with.
gone the days of install and play without seeing any crappy thing open here and there! I wanted peace of mind and enjoyment, not waste of time.
as for my statement about "why do you guys care about SLR downloads" is because I was seeing it from a perspective of:
1- the files are too big in size and the quality gains although they are obvious, but didn't worth it for me in terms of wasting time to download, store, keep and manage them.
2- you need a PC or at least a laptop in order to do such an operation. which adds the inconvenience of connecting the headset to the PC in order to stream them from there.
3- my new mindset I had in late 2020 with the release of Quest 2. I started to see things differently. I loved the headset so much, my interest in PC gaming, watching TV became less and less. I ended up selling them because I don't want to deal with them and their issues anymore.
4- I wanted my daily used devices to be only: mobile, chargeable, and wireless like Quest 2, and I ended up with this formula to this day. that alone will kill the idea of downloading and keeping, but it was worth the trade off for me, as these devices continuity, ease of use and peace of mind can't be beaten by anything really.
but I do own an SLR and DeoVR accounts. that's ownership! and never had any issue with SLR or DeoVR telling me, hey! no more streaming for you! hey! you're not allowed to watch this or that! not at all!
and that's more than great to me in exchange for the fair yearly prices they asked. actually I'm thinking about a lifetime sub on both, since I loved the 2 platforms too much!
for me, both SLR and DeoVR are doing what I used to do in the old days. like storing and managing the files. etc. they lift that burden on me. I'm just enjoying the content with more free time to do so and to do other things in life ๐
that was my perspective. I thought many would have the same experience as me. but reading the replies was very convincing why many are still downloading and taking the time and investing more money to do so. they are very right. I think I got used to the idea of streaming only for too long. I thought many were in the same boat. lol.
very sorry for the long post. I just wanted to share my entire experience of my way of thinking when it comes to this stuff. cheers! ๐
