  • DeoVR app v SLR WebXR

SLR WebXR gets damn good on Meta Quest browser and Apple Vision Pro Safari. And btw AVP video quality is astonishing, the best thing ever.

Both share the same core idea of watching VR, approaching it different ways: native app v VR browser. WebXR users can enjoy superb video rendering. We should start promoting WebXR watching VR next to Deo.

Current WebXR limitations:

  • no PT AI.
  • PT on AVP is coming with VisionOS updates, enabling PT for Safari browser
  • no BT support on Apple devices.

WebXR advantages:

  • better video rendering
  • better cams
  • more updates are coming soon.

Also there will be major WebXR rendering boost late January.
AV1 is coming first to WebXR. SLR Drive will be fully operations on WebXR, though it will not include PT AI.

DeoVR will see fewer updates in the next few month as the team is working on the Hyper app promising unparalleled performance and visuals.

I was curious and tried it out but it's missing so many essential features I would never use it like this (things like controller reorientation for instance). I also think a native app will always be superior due to access to full device feature, native libraries (speed, control), etc. But I get why you made it. Just hope it's not supposed to replace deo on pc, etc.

What I did love is how much faster pagination was. Very nice! Also I like the pagination bar a lot better as it has more buttons (even though fyi it doesn't work now, only the first middle and last button work).

I had to check it out also. For me the video quality seemed better (like in Heresphere) and the pagination was super fast. As you said everything else was dissappointing and I hold on DeoVR for now. You have to improve WebXR a lot to get it work as smooth as DoeVR.

WebXR video quality seems good. As long as I cannot measure quality or watch both options side by side, I cannot say if equally good or better.

Some essential features are currently missing, so overall I would keep using DeoVR for now even if the video quality was slightly inferior.

For me personally, the major flaw of the current SLR Hub is the significant buffering time each time when jumping 10 sec forward. In DeoVR, I am not noticing any buffering when doing the same. As long as this is not fixed, I would not use the hub on a regular basis, even if it had all features of DeoVR.

Hi @fenderwq, @Picouser, and @SchnuppiLilac, thanks a lot for trying out WebXR and sharing your thoughts!

Could you share more details about which specific features you found missing or disappointing compared to the app? This feedback will really help us prioritize improvements and enhance the WebXR experience.

🖊️ Noted on controller reorientation and buffering time
Just to clarify, WebXR isn’t meant to replace — it’s simply another option to enjoy VR content directly in a headset.

Appreciate your time and feedback! Looking forward to hearing more from you

It would be great to see A-B looping in WebXR like you can do in DEOVR, and scripts default to OFF when loading a new video, which is slightly annoying.

AnaVR Apart from the controller reorientation? For me the priorities would be:

        1. Remote control toggle as I need it for my toy
        2. AI Passthrough
        3. Controller shortcuts (dome rotation with roll is the most important one, but I use quite a few)
        4. The tags under the seek bar (for quick seeking, exploring the scene)
        5. Dragging the seek bar / controls (the overlay when playing a movie)

The above would be the minimum for me to use it. There might be things I forgot, but these come to mind.

          fenderwq

Some of these features are already planned for the WebXR Hub, including control improvements. However, AI Passthrough will remain an app-only feature for now.

We’ve noted all your suggestions—thanks again for helping us make WebXR better based on real user needs!

New to WebXR, I guess the push for WebXR is really just to allow for newer cameras that Deo does not support? But if there is no AI passthrough and passthrough limitations in general, not sure why anyone would consider this over DEOvr atm. Passthrough is just a whole other thing and we will always have video quality conversation and that will never end. So is the interest in WebXR mainly just for video quality? Seems like an unfair trade but maybe im missing something. Passthrough limitations would be a total deal breaker for me.

Seems to me if you fancy passthrough and AI stuff, you will use DeoVR, and if you are after video quality improvements you will lean toward WebXR. Am I getting this wrong?

I would list lacking but essential features as follows:

            1. My Library -> My Interactive missing = 200 videos I have spent time missing
            2. AI Passthroug
            3. Controller orientation (rotation, rolls, recentering)
            4. Controller cursor missing. Playing videos it is seen, but vanishes in hub = hard to navigate
            5. Forvard seeking is 4 seconds (should be 10 seconds and defined by user). Lots of lag and buffering 🙁
            6. Player options (sharpness, slide etc) font really blurry compared to other text with is sharp. Player options sliders really bad. You can't even adjust 0,398 cos controller is not that accurate and +/- is worthless. Keep the range between 0 to 20 for example.
            7. I would love to see comments and model name (easier to find same model videos) next to video

If all of these "features" are corrected then I prefer WebXR cos it looks sharper, is faster and video quality looks imho better.

sogman WebXR is more for casual viewers who prefer a browser or might not want to install a dedicated app. It's just another option. If you use DeoVR there is no real reason to switch.

Yes, that's correct. Because webXR and App are built in different development environments, they come with their own challenges and advantages for adding new features. The limitations are not artificially created.

SchnuppiLilac For me personally, the major flaw of the current SLR Hub is the significant buffering time each time when jumping 10 sec forward. For example, the buffering time mentioned earlier is due to browser constraints, which we can’t directly control.

We’re not pushing one over the other. Whether a user prefers to download the app or explore content directly in the browser, our goal is to provide the best experience possible in both.

Picouser Controller cursor missing. Playing videos it is seen, but vanishes in hub = hard to navigate

I had reported this in some other thread a while ago. The workaround I found is that before leaving a video or cam with the back button, you need to summon the player UI first, and then the cursor will be visible in the grid view.

SchnuppiLilac Thanks. That really solved the problem. I thought it is some sort of random bug, cos sometimes I saw the cursor and sometimes not.
