xeddin1 I'd say that too if I were about to start directing
Would you tip performers and producers?

If this does get implemented, please make tipping opt-in, not available by default. If people want to tip, they can damn well go into Settings and turn on the "Tip Your Provider" button. Otherwise, you risk exploiting people's "boner brains" and result in a ton of post-orgasm tip-regret.
Also, please don't make others' tips visible to the general populace. "Brocefus6969 tipped Narcissist01 $5.00 for 'Titfuck Compilation #400'" is not something the general population needs to see and will only serve as social pressure. That would also be easily gameable by providers recruiting fake tippers to come in and "prime the pump".
Also, a max cap would be advisable. Make it so you can only tip once per scene and the maximum you can tip is $5. That will mitigate excessive spending by the addictive types and minimize the impact of "boner brain" tipping. This could also help in those situations where "account hacking" comes into question. You know damn well that some gooner is going to tip $200 at the height of brainless edging then claim his account was "hacked" when he regrets it later. It may also discourage actual account hacking since it reduces the potential profit.

This thread covers two subjects.
The first is about the idea of allocating 3% of a scene's sales to performers. I think that would be amazing! Honestly, I don’t know how this wasn’t implemented before or if there was ever even a slight chance for it to happen. It could really solve the problem created by OnlyFans and might encourage performers to stay in the industry longer. They’d be motivated to shoot as many scenes as possible to build up the passive income they’re looking for, something they often turn to OF for.

The second part is about whether I would tip performers. The answer is simple: NO!
Tipping culture is purely American. Europeans don’t do that, and honestly, I’ve never understood why we should tip. I got into disputes during my two visits to the US. In Europe, we pay for services, plain and simple. You can see the difference yourself between EU and US. performers on Twitter. American performers are constantly bragging, non-stop sharing their OF accounts, and asking people to subscribe. On the other hand, EU models, those not influenced by the US behave differently cuz they weren't raised that way. They share their accounts occasionally and don’t care whether you subscribe or not. It’s more like, “Here’s my account, subscribe if you want.”
For me, I do pay for services, and the only service I want from sexworkers, whether they’re brothel workers or pornstars, is an actual sexual relationship. I’d pay a fortune for that. But services like nude pics, private messages, Skype calls, or custom videos? Those don’t interest me at all. I just don’t want to pay for nothing.
That said, tipping itself is fine, as long as it’s optional. The problem starts when someone assumes it’s their right to receive it. That’s when it all goes wrong. I got blocked by two of my favorite performers when they realized I’d never subscribe to their OnlyFans. Honestly, their amateur content doesn’t interest me, so why should I feel obligated to subscribe?
Personally speaking, this is a great way to provide incentive.
Optional is fine, but as someone from a country with zero tipping culture, I won't be tipping.

If it remains optional without specific perks for donors then it's a good idea imo, it allows people to show their appreciation and increases earnings for content creators
Tips could have an optional text field, so you could write something like "loved position XYZ" or "loved outfit XYZ" or even a request for future scenes. Content creators could then take a look and see what is most popular / earned the most tips and tweak future scenes accordingly
^ potential for AI testing, compiling a list of requested / liked scenes summary for each content creator with financial related info
Allowing SLR users to tip with cam tokens would be synergistic
jommy
I agree. Optional tipping. Tipping should never work like OnlyFans (where tipping is just another word for buying content).
Tipping granting a 'pinned' or 'top message' feature would be cool. So if you tip, your message is highlighted and displayed at the top of the comments (like how YouTube does it).

No. Just another form of elitism. Why should "rich" people have a louder voice here too?
xeddin1 Doesn't sound like a convincing argument to me. How would it fuel growth? A lot of creators are indie and are happy to just film random shit in their back room. They aren't going to scale up and they don't invest back into improving their product.

Perhaps have the comment highlighted to the people you tipped (only in that video), but not in a general sense imo

Seems a little biased for people who would potentially profit from this to be so involved.
Only as optional and if we can specify and be assured that it would go directly to either the studio, director, or talent. You can really go all out and even have categories like wardrobe team, makeup team, camera operator, etc.
So to sum up the responses: "It is what it is" "c'est la vie". Great.
Regardless, I think I've made my opinion clear: Tipping and "pay to highlight comment" will accelerate the (as the kids say) enshittification of the social parts of SLR.
<resigned sigh> Since I don't tend to masturbate to those parts, I guess I can just ignore them.
No, and I think the deep down reason a lot of people here are more against it than for it impulsively clicking 'no' is because like for example, Im not much of a gamer anymore. But I used to be so I know the landscape. These days, you pay $70 for a game, but in order to use all its features, you have to continue to pay for this pack and that dlc and this mod and that. Ya know, like 15 years ago you bought a finished product, but now you know you are buying an incomplete product and must pay to receive all its benefits. Will make slr feel incomplete and more of a cash grab.. in time. Maybe not right away, but it will change the image of the site to something more generic. Unless the goal is to change their image.
Now I know thats likely not the goal with this tipping performers idea. But when you have things like onlyfans and camgirl sites where you have to pay to play... I could see slr in the future morphing into something it never was to begin with. And I know you'd say nope will never happen, but it totally could given time. Today its just a tip to them, people like us wont notice anything or at minimum its optional. But once established that could change, and people know it. I just payed for lifetime, a year or two from now will I log into slr and have to pay a tip to unlock half the videos on the site? idk but its not out of the realm of possibility once you open that door of revenue on top of an already paid plan. Know what I mean? Slr is a business afterall so I get it, but I think this comparison to the other million sites is whats turning people off.
I guess this would be my tldr; tipping could be perceived as pay to play when they are already getting paid. Tipping could evolve over time into something non-optional to receive benefits on the site you already paid for. If the performers want more $ Im sure most, if not all, already have onlyfans and similar type accounts where they are making "side money." I already paid them.
Yeah, this. We know these videos are just little drama films. But at the same time they are tipped already when you like a video. The performer gets recognition from excess likes, rises above others, and gets the phone call and contracts for more videos than other performers. All this means more $$. I dont want slr to become just another onlyfans/camgirl site. We already have enough of that
