  • Would you tip performers and producers?

xeddin1 Tipping granting a 'pinned' or 'top message' feature would be cool. So if you tip, your message is highlighted and displayed at the top of the comments (like how YouTube does it).

Perhaps have the comment highlighted to the people you tipped (only in that video), but not in a general sense imo

Seems a little biased for people who would potentially profit from this to be so involved.

fuccaneer Well, of course. But everything is biased depending on where you sit. Joffrey becoming king sucks if you are a Stark, but it's amazing if you are a Lannister.

Only as optional and if we can specify and be assured that it would go directly to either the studio, director, or talent. You can really go all out and even have categories like wardrobe team, makeup team, camera operator, etc.

fuccaneer that's the nature of things. Just like physics

and you are very well welcomed into that club

So to sum up the responses: "It is what it is" "c'est la vie". Great.

Regardless, I think I've made my opinion clear: Tipping and "pay to highlight comment" will accelerate the (as the kids say) enshittification of the social parts of SLR.
<resigned sigh> Since I don't tend to masturbate to those parts, I guess I can just ignore them.

No, and I think the deep down reason a lot of people here are more against it than for it impulsively clicking 'no' is because like for example, Im not much of a gamer anymore. But I used to be so I know the landscape. These days, you pay $70 for a game, but in order to use all its features, you have to continue to pay for this pack and that dlc and this mod and that. Ya know, like 15 years ago you bought a finished product, but now you know you are buying an incomplete product and must pay to receive all its benefits. Will make slr feel incomplete and more of a cash grab.. in time. Maybe not right away, but it will change the image of the site to something more generic. Unless the goal is to change their image.

Now I know thats likely not the goal with this tipping performers idea. But when you have things like onlyfans and camgirl sites where you have to pay to play... I could see slr in the future morphing into something it never was to begin with. And I know you'd say nope will never happen, but it totally could given time. Today its just a tip to them, people like us wont notice anything or at minimum its optional. But once established that could change, and people know it. I just payed for lifetime, a year or two from now will I log into slr and have to pay a tip to unlock half the videos on the site? idk but its not out of the realm of possibility once you open that door of revenue on top of an already paid plan. Know what I mean? Slr is a business afterall so I get it, but I think this comparison to the other million sites is whats turning people off.

I guess this would be my tldr; tipping could be perceived as pay to play when they are already getting paid. Tipping could evolve over time into something non-optional to receive benefits on the site you already paid for. If the performers want more $ Im sure most, if not all, already have onlyfans and similar type accounts where they are making "side money." I already paid them.

Yeah, this. We know these videos are just little drama films. But at the same time they are tipped already when you like a video. The performer gets recognition from excess likes, rises above others, and gets the phone call and contracts for more videos than other performers. All this means more $$. I dont want slr to become just another onlyfans/camgirl site. We already have enough of that

Maybe even add on a $x monthly subscription to your favourite creators. It could give you a badge by your name when you comment on their channel.

It seems the biggest cause of concern for people is that it would fuel a need to tip. Perhaps a good idea is to test the system on a few channels and see how it goes. A thousand people voluntarily tipping $1 a month to a channel is a nice increase in profit.

This isn't OnlyFans. Creators don't have the ability to hide content behind paywalls.
Regardless, theory crafting all day only does so much.

    Closing points
    1) Optional tipping is fine. Some people very much like specific studios, why not allow them to show their support in smaller entities.
    2) OnlyFans does not have tipping. They have payment, which they call 'tipping'.
    3) Tipping = more money = more content because more content = more tipping = more money

A majority of this forum is filled with channels of users who want more from the VR porn industry, especially from current studios that continuously stick to the status quo and ignore feedback. This concept simply gives more incentive for studios to step up their game and new models to venture into VR. It would not be required to tip nor do I see how it would become a new tool for elitists to dominate their agendas. Not every business model that involves tipping is the same.

But hey, who knows, maybe it would cause the world to implode and end humanity🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I don't think tipping will magically give us much more vr content unless it tips (lol) over into the only fans kind of revenue that makes things redicoulously expensive.

Tipping should be banned everywhere. Tipping is out of control since the covid. This is not customer responsabilties to pay the vendor's bills and wage.
