alphaRonaldo quick visual sample of differences
the irony is that this gif is compressed too and doesnt show the exact difference but you can see it anyway
these slight fine details are being lost with every step
but now i think we solved it

Manny_S Surely you don't have to output a new file after every step of the pipeline. That sounds like a horribly inefficient way to process a video.

Hairsational what would be an efficient way then? to make stereo correction, denoise, alpha rendering from the raw footage?

Manny_S made a quick comparison for you

Did my homework. In this example, the pale one looks more natural than the previous EU example I mentioned (I think Emily Pink) while the other one might be a bit too yellowish for resembling melanin. In direct comparison, I might prefer the paler one.

Would be interesting to see the same comparison done with this video with two different skin tones.

I had stolen the picture from another post in this forum, (wrongly) assuming that it was an unreleased SLR scene since it looked like the SLR contact sheets. When taking a closer look today, I am quite confident that this is a scene from the competition (ARPorn).

It seems to me that 8k is pointless at this point with so much compression. like 8k only really matters if it makes a difference in what we actually see.
I watched an old SLR scene with the 6k camera and can see more detail than any new 8k scene.

That 6k camera is still the best (sorry i've forgotten the name of it) - it also added depth to the image which is totally lost these days - hard to explain but i actually felt part of the scene - these days it's more like watching movie that i can look around.

It was easily the best time of VR regarding image quality - Every time i see people asking for 8k makes me cringe as that is no guarantee of quality and quite often a downgrade IMO - maybe i didn't read the marketing and can actually make my own mind up
