trooowiii People who are anti-passthrough, are you using devices such as the handy that make non-passthrough better for that application? Just curious. I think people just have different tastes as well. I've read some comments where the user likes to escape into different scenes rather than see their environment. I get that too.
Yes, that latter one is me. Also using the Handy and I'm functionally dependent on it - I really can't get off any other way now; I guess haptics are to me what PT is to some people here. Personally, I have no desire to see my own body or room because neither is pleasant to look at. The PT effect is utterly unconvincing to me. I don't change positions during normal scenes, either, irrespective of the position. I usually just cherry-pick the bits I like (mostly cowgirl). That's my preference. Others have different preferences. It's all good as long as there's something for everyone. I am worried about the direction of travel, though, I won't lie about that.
mebejoe I'm curious: How does PT alienate a significant user base? Can't you watch the videos in non-PT mode? Are they not as good when you turn off PT?
Not if the male is wearing a blue / grey body suit and all you can see is his equipment, and the room is basically a blue/grey space.
mebejoe It looks like the top ten videos this month are PT videos. I doubt it's going away.
If AR is going to become the default here, as I said on a thread some months ago, then I will be unhappy and will probably have to look elsewhere for my porn. If it becomes the default everywhere, well then I guess I'm going back to 2D.
Now, if something that's being talked about here which is 'AI Passthrough' works out so that you can create scenes that satisfy PT fans while filming the scene 'as normal' so it can be viewed as a regular VR scene without weird artificial backgrounds etc, then my concerns will disappear. People will vote with their feet and wallets. If most people want PT then that's what the studios will end up doing most of the time. You can't swim against the tide. I hope I don't have to.
(BTW, if the stat of 'PT users' means 'anyone who's ever clicked a PT video', then I'm one of them, because I have, to see what all the fuss was about; but I'm definitely not a PT user and won't be.)
