ThorOfAsgard Like @doublevr said, the app is going through a major code overhaul. The problem with them issue you're experiencing is that is not easy to replicate at all, which is why any sort of logs would help the team understand what is happening here.

As I previously asked, if you can provide us with the logs from your headset after the issue happened, that would be amazing. Some users already sent over them and the team found them quite useful.

As for providing the previous version of the app, I'm afraid that this is not doable at the moment but I will check with the team and put this as a potential feature request.

Also if doable, can you all check if you maybe changed the Sharpness setting values from 0 to any other number? Changing this number can cause a significant drop in FPS performance. So make sure to change this setting shown in the screenshot below back to 0.

Let me know if this helped any of the affected with the FPS issue.

Just got my 4070 Ti Super (upgraded from 1080 Ti) and there is no real change in deovr. Playing 8k videos locally in heresphere is so much better though.

ThorOfAsgard Hey, not sure but you somehow skipped the last post about sharpness and other settings. Can you please confirm if these settings are default or not? If they are not, do they significantly impact the performance? Also, without providing us with any sort of logs from your device it's very hard to pinpoint the issue.

Do I understand it right SLR considers the problems with deovr after the update are local? Or does SLR agree the problems in deovr are functional and caused by the update?

Thanks for clarifying in advance.

Thoughts Hey, we don't have the right answer for this at the moment, as we still need the data to understand from where these issues are coming from. We only received a couple of logs from the user but that still isn't enough to pinpoint the issue.

      @[deleted] My 2 cents:

From my testing the DeoVR starts to be completely laggy about 4"30 to 5 minutes after it is launched.
Even if you don't play any video, just stay on the app "start page" and it becomes laggy after that period.
Stopping and relaunching the DeoVR app has no effect.
I have to stop the Oculus app, restart it then relaunch the DeoVR app, which will work for another 5 minutes before becoming unusable again (hovering the menu items or the video previews is laggy and show some kind of artifacts/pixels, moving my head around everything moves in a choppy way like when having very low fps, same when playing any video in any resolution).

Using a Rift S, RTX 2080 Ti, Intel Core i9-9900K, 32Go of RAM, Oculus app v60.0.0.162.352, DeoVR app 13.14.1, Windows 11
Was using the DeoVR app for months without such issue until a few weeks.
Other apps launched from the Oculus app are working as expected.
      Will send you my logs.

RD3ZEN Awesome, appreciate that context and we'll be waiting for the logs. I'll update the team in the meantime!

[deleted] But has your team tried a version prior to early december? Thats where the issue started so certainly that must help pinpoint the issue?

ThorOfAsgard As @[deleted] said, the team is working on pinpointing the issue. Unfortunately, I cannot share more information at this point.

Until the root cause of the problem is identified and a new version with a fix is provided, I downloaded and installed an older version of DeoVR as a workaround.
I've used Oculus downgrader and installed DeoVR 13.12.2.1 from November 14, 2023 and it works (no more lag).
There are probably more recent versions that works too but as I was unsure in which version the problem started exactly I prefered to get back from a few versions.

RD3ZEN I've passed the logs you sent me over, and also passed this comment as well, I really hope that this will help us get to the bottom of this! We will update this thread as soon as we have any new information though!

Hi guys, one more suggestion, try to install the latest Lav filters, this might be able to help with freezes and lagging.

@Kieshi Thank you, it seems to fix the issue for me 🎉
I updated LAVFilters to v0.78 and after running DeoVR 13.14.1 for about 15min I got no lag so far \o/
Will try again in the coming days but sounds promising!
Hope it will work for others too.

Kieshi I tried 0.78 and it didnt help. Most others seem to be saying their problem is it gets laggy after 15 minutes. For me for about a month after this started in early december after deovrs last update (i still dont understand why we cant try the previous version, it seems so obvious) it played very slowly, but then it changed and it does that but it also pixelates every few seconds. Its not the GPU as i said before i had a 1080 ti and then i upgraded to a 4070 ti super and the issue is the same on both.

RD3ZEN "I downloaded and installed an older version of DeoVR as a workaround." How did you install an older version?? I've been asking SLR if i could do this and they keep saying no. This also proves to SLR that the issue is from their december update. Im not sure where to get that version, and are you installing on your headset or your computer? I play from my computer, either oculus air link or virtual desktop.

I mean come on SLR, this has been unusable for literally months. Why cant you make it easy for us to use an earlier version until you can get this figured out, instead of us not being able to use it at all besides downloads while waiting for you (not to mention a couple years ago the limit was 50 per 3 days, now its less than one third of that)? This is unreasonable if we can just use an earlier version.

@ThorOfAsgard I understand your frustration of being stuck with such issue, I'm/was? in the same situation and as you I was convinced that a rollback to a previous version could help.
Here is how I proceeded to install a previous version, not straightforward though (there might be an easier way but that's the first time I had to do it, so I gathered information and tried):

              • Download Oculus downgrader,
              • Install .NET 6 if you don't have it already,
              • Following Oculus downgrader guide:
                • Run Oculus Downgrader.exe (if the program closes immediately that's probably because you don't have .NET 6. If you have it but still don't run, open a cmd prompt to see a message of the problem),
                • Type n (No) when being asked to log in (I tried to log in first but it didn't work for me - program crash)
                • Then type Y (Yes) to get a guide for retrieving your access token from the Oculus app itself. The steps are well explained in this page,
                • Once you have your token, you must paste it in Oculus downgrader wich will encrypt it (I did it but later when I tried to download a previous version of DeoVR I was getting an error of not being authenticated, but continue to read, there is a solution),
              • Then type 11 to run the Direct execute command,
              • Then open this page listing all the DeoVR versions (the page is quite slow to load),
              • Click on the Download button of the version you want to install. I'd chosen the 13.12.2.1 from Novermber 14, 2023 (you can find the patch notes of all versions and their release date in this page),
              • Copy the command line arguments shown in the dialog in step 2. and past it in Oculus downgrader and hit Enter.
For me it was d --appid 1004289456346194 --versionid 6524092777699140 --headset rift --token <paste-your-token> (appid is the DeoVR app id, versionid the version of the app to install and I added the token parameter where you should paste your token retrieved previously in the Oculus app otherwise it was still complaining that I was not authenticated despite the previous steps done),
              • Hopefully you will be more lucky than I was because the download failed multiple times for a few missing files, so I repreated the operation a few times (stoping - restarting Oculus downgrader and it finally succeded to download)
              • Then it will ask you if you want to start the "game", answer Y (Yes) then hit Enter if your Oculus app are installed in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software (this is the default) so it will move the downloaded DeoVR app there:
              • The app will then be located in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software\infomediji-d-o-o-deovr-video-player where you can find and run the DeoVR.exe file at any time.
              • I had also disabled the auto-update in the Oculus app in Settings > General > Auto update Apps as I was not sure if the downgraded version of DeoVR will replace the already installed one or if it will seat next to it. And I think it was the right move because today when I started the Oculus app it was saying that a DeoVR update was available (13.14.1) from my current one (13.12.2.1).

              Hope this can help you!

DeoVR team is working hard to make things work. We expect seeing improvements with every new release from now on
