Meta's software for the Quest 3 is plagued by numerous issues, making it nearly unusable in many aspects. I could write a lengthy review detailing the areas that require improvement. For instance, the guardian feature is excessively annoying and cannot be disabled without registering for developer mode separately. Additionally, there is background audio on the homescreen that cannot be turned off, the device recommends random strangers as friends based on the software being used (with no option to remove this feature), AirLink passthrough does not work (which is inexcusable given Meta's marketing campaign for this device), there is no option to hide uninstalled apps from the homescreen (making the SLR app not an option for anyone who wants to show their Quest 3 to friends), the browser is clumsy and lacks privacy controls and basic features such as selecting a blank homescreen and deleting bookmarks. Furthermore, there is no usable video software for viewing films (Deo doesn't support letterbox or multiple language tracks, making Meta's product irrelevant to markets outside the US and UK). Additionally, it is impossible to find the best apps (only accessible through exact titles via App Lab or through SideQuest), and the browser lacks basic features such as privacy controls and selection options (like setting a blank homescreen and deleting dozens of irrelevant bookmarks). Overall, I would give the software a 2/10 and say it is mostly unusable for anyone without a high to intermediate knowledge of computers and a willingness to sacrifice all privacy to Meta. Oh yeah, and did I mention Meta did not include basic 3D photo capture software?
