  • Quest 3 binocular overlap

[deleted] Thanks. I think what you don't like about the software was pretty much the same on Q2, wasn't it? So it's not really a negative for Q3 if you could live with it on Q2.

bboy7895 I am not sure if I understand what the actual issue is. Are you seeing black lines as thick as in the figure on the right?

it is present on mine too but doesn't bother me when I get into watching a film or YouTube.

Did you know you can see your nose all the time too but your brain processes it out of the way? The more you talk about it, the more your brain will remember it 😃

I find it a lot more noticeable in Quest 2, where the intersection takes away FOV from the middle. That's a critical area in VR Porn!

SchnuppiLilac if you could live with it on Q2.

Actually, I purchased a Quest 2 but barely used it, instead opting to continue using my GearVR with a Galaxy S20. Given the numerous software issues with the Quest 2, I was expecting Meta to address these before launching the Quest 3. Many of the features in the Quest 3 were already available in the GearVR, such as clear lenses and a proper IPD adjustment wheel. While the GearVR has an AMOLED screen, more than 1 GB of internal storage, and is lighter to carry, the Quest 3 is superior for gaming, particularly for Beat Sabre. However, as an adult, I don't play games as much as I used to...

I expected better software... These are design decisions (i.e. problems) make Quest 3 unusable for most consumers.

[deleted] But I'm not a teenager and don't play games with it

Lol you should see all the grown as men playing ghostbusters 🤦‍♂️🤣

You made zero sense. The Quest 2 has 90 degrees of binocular overlap on a 98 degree field of view. The Quest 3 has 80 degrees of overlap on a 110 degree field of view, of course its going to be noticeable..

there's literally countless posts on reddit about this... lol

[deleted] Quest 3 is a creepy product. Why do I need to give Meta the device IDs for my computer and cellphone to use it? I'd trust SLR before I'd trust Meta.

the hell is that all about?

bboy7895 Q3 is better than Q2 in terms of noticeable overlap. I have both headsets right here and have looked at an identical part of a scene. In every day use I doubt anyone would have a problem with either headset in this regard, but if it bothers you it'll bother you more on Q2.

[deleted] it’s not really unusable for most consumers as these are largely the same software issues (if you can even call some of them issues) as Quest 2 and that headset probably accounts for about 90% of all VR users.

I have turned on every possible privacy setting and made myself as invisible as I can on Meta so I don’t get any random recommendations of strangers to talk to and I have zero followers as I’m not discoverable on there.

Then you don't know what I'm talking about, because the setting cannot be turned off. Maybe you haven't visited any places of the "Metaverse"? If you do, you will see it.

Without registration as a Developer, there's no way to disable the Guardian feature. None of the free software is available from SideQuest without the additional registration. How easy is that whole process? Users have to know about SideQuest and App Lab, and for many consumers that's a significant commitment of time and research for a recreational device.
