  • Quest 3 binocular overlap

Am I the only one bothered by this? I came from the Pico 4 where it was almost non-existent, but with the Pico 4, I can't stop noticing it, and it kind of kills the immersion.

bboy7895 one reviewer say it was non existent

    Does adjusting the ipd help?

I have Pico 4 and I really haven't noticed that, just looks like one big circle, I cross my eyes I see it.

On q2 tho, mine always looked kind of like a heart shape at the top, never was a perfect circle

      Not noticeable.

The colors are poor, and the software is bad. Those are the negatives of Quest 3.

Meta's software for the Quest 3 is plagued by numerous issues, making it nearly unusable in many aspects. I could write a lengthy review detailing the areas that require improvement. For instance, the guardian feature is excessively annoying and cannot be disabled without registering for developer mode separately. Additionally, there is background audio on the homescreen that cannot be turned off, the device recommends random strangers as friends based on the software being used (with no option to remove this feature), AirLink passthrough does not work (which is inexcusable given Meta's marketing campaign for this device), there is no option to hide uninstalled apps from the homescreen (making the SLR app not an option for anyone who wants to show their Quest 3 to friends), the browser is clumsy and lacks privacy controls and basic features such as selecting a blank homescreen and deleting bookmarks. Furthermore, there is no usable video software for viewing films (Deo doesn't support letterbox or multiple language tracks, making Meta's product irrelevant to markets outside the US and UK). Additionally, it is impossible to find the best apps (only accessible through exact titles via App Lab or through SideQuest), and the browser lacks basic features such as privacy controls and selection options (like setting a blank homescreen and deleting dozens of irrelevant bookmarks). Overall, I would give the software a 2/10 and say it is mostly unusable for anyone without a high to intermediate knowledge of computers and a willingness to sacrifice all privacy to Meta. Oh yeah, and did I mention Meta did not include basic 3D photo capture software?

Compared to the Quest 2, Apple's Vision Pro is a superior device, but it is unfortunately out of reach for most consumers due to its high price point.
Here are some key differences between the two devices:
          • Eye tracking is likely to be more effective than hand tracking
          • OLED panels offer better film viewing experience, which is what most people want to use HMDs for
          • Apple will provide basic productivity apps
          • The majority of users will abandon the Quest 3 due to the hassle of finding and using App Lab and SideQuest apps. Apple's store is far more user-friendly.
          • Quest 3 is a creepy product. Why do I need to give Meta the device IDs for my computer and cellphone to use it? I'd trust SLR before I'd trust Meta.

[deleted] Thanks. I think what you don't like about the software was pretty much the same on Q2, wasn't it? So it's not really a negative for Q3 if you could live with it on Q2.

bboy7895 I am not sure if I understand what the actual issue is. Are you seeing black lines as thick as in the figure on the right?

it is present on mine too but doesn't bother me when I get into watching a film or YouTube.

Did you know you can see your nose all the time too but your brain processes it out of the way? The more you talk about it, the more your brain will remember it 😃

I find it a lot more noticeable in Quest 2, where the intersection takes away FOV from the middle. That's a critical area in VR Porn!

SchnuppiLilac if you could live with it on Q2.

Actually, I purchased a Quest 2 but barely used it, instead opting to continue using my GearVR with a Galaxy S20. Given the numerous software issues with the Quest 2, I was expecting Meta to address these before launching the Quest 3. Many of the features in the Quest 3 were already available in the GearVR, such as clear lenses and a proper IPD adjustment wheel. While the GearVR has an AMOLED screen, more than 1 GB of internal storage, and is lighter to carry, the Quest 3 is superior for gaming, particularly for Beat Sabre. However, as an adult, I don't play games as much as I used to...

SchnuppiLilac So it's not really a negative for Q3

I expected better software... These are design decisions (i.e. problems) make Quest 3 unusable for most consumers.

[deleted] But I'm not a teenager and don't play games with it

Lol you should see all the grown as men playing ghostbusters 🤦‍♂️🤣

You made zero sense. The Quest 2 has 90 degrees of binocular overlap on a 98 degree field of view. The Quest 3 has 80 degrees of overlap on a 110 degree field of view, of course its going to be noticeable..

there's literally countless posts on reddit about this... lol

the hell is that all about?
