yangbodyn changed the title to 120 FPS needs a return .

Can anybody give info as to why SLR stepped away from 120fps?

Afaik they are the only one in the business who had this technical feat
And it actually worked great unlike VRB 12k for example

    yangbodyn a few obvious reasons:

    • the 120 fps videos arent based on camera footage that is natively 120 fps, they are based on 60 fps footage converted to 120 fps. its fake 120fps, not the real deal.
    • the conversion process is time consuming, and, at slr's scale, expensive. its simply not economically worth it for them to be creating 120 fps versions.
    • few, if any, devices can play 8k 120 fps

Unlike other remastering or extrapolating techniques the result of which are mostly ineffective and disappointing,SLR's 120FPS does make a HUGE difference especially when playing back in slow motion.I have since been a big fan and shall be very happy if they start doing it again.

spacepirate Didn't know that thanks, but my point stands. The experience is clearly smoother and does not look fake at all to me, it works

The quest 2, which I think is by far the most common device(?), can play the 120fps vids no problem

yangbodyn Is this machine translated?😁As far as l know quest2 can't play true 6k 90/120fps alone , beacause xr2 is not strong enough.

sheldoncooper It is not, 120hz display used to be an experimental feature but has been worked into the live build quite a long time ago now

You can set display to 120hz in settings (works only for applications that support it, like Deo)

Connected only to wifi I can flawlessly stream the best 120FPS vids on the site at max quality

yangbodyn good point. Thx for realizing 120FPS files won’t be supported for 8K videos because of hardware decoding limitation which can be 5792x2896@120fps = 8192x4096@60fps. But because of Unity, media engine and all the other overheads 8K can’t be rendered on Quest Pro, but rather 3400p or something.

It’s pricey to interpolate to 120FPS especially when you don’t know the supported resolution
https://deovr.com/blog/14-upgrading-to-60fps-and-120fps-with-the-twixtor-plugin. It was taking us 3-4 weeks to interpolate one video in 120fps.

Back in the days there was only Valve Index supporting 120FPS. Since Quest has got there it makes sense to get it back. Will try to figure it out

I'm sorry that you are mad at @spacepirate but that is exactly what he said. He wasn't trolling you. He was giving the same reasons that you did one day later. Why do you get so mad for no reason?

doublevr A big thank you if we can get it back.In fact I enjoy it more than pass through.

rerun119 its happened enough times before that ive noticed a pattern. ill say something, often something that i know is correct, and he will respond with one line saying im wrong, with no accompanying justification, and even when probed for reasons he doesnt provide any.
