rerun119

rerun119 We can't push a button and make green videos have a nice beautiful background.

We should be able to though. That's the most ridiculous thing about it. Kinda absurd it wasn't an option within the first week of the passthrough trend/fad started.

Jacksonjdr94 Based on your hostility towards the existence of this thread, I'm gonna call BS on that, because if that was even a little true, actually true, you wouldn't have been so hostile to this thread's existence in the first place. You don't get to start fires then claim you come in peace.

Jacksonjdr94 There's no benefit to less content. None.

there are benefits to less content. for example... lower costs... a better customer experience where we dont have to sift through pages of crap scenes from producers who have no idea what they are doing.

ThePointyEnd my objection wasnt at the OP at all.

You won't find anything I said being against a non-green version of passthrough scenes.

My objection was that within the first handful
of posts the thread quickly turned into "fuck passthrough, get rid of it completely. It doesn't belong here and people who like it can subscribe somewhere else".

rerun119 I'm not picking fights with people for not liking what I love.

I'm objecting to people saying what I love doesn't belong here and that I should have to get it somewhere else because they don't like it.

spacepirate we can block producers we don't like from our feed with relative ease.

Reducing costs is only helpful if it doesn't also reduce revenue by an equivalent or larger amount.

R&d into things like passthrough is also vital in a rapidly evolving and highly competitive industry.

How many companies at the top of their game stagnate and get left behind? I'd say lots.

If a product is helping to attract or retain enough paying subscribers, it makes sense to continue producing it.

Even if some people don't like it and get really really upset that money/time/talent is being spent on something they dislike.

Bottom line, passthrough content belongs here.

            Jacksonjdr94 Bottom line

Please let this be the bottom. I feel like everyone has more than made their point. Every time someone replies here, photos of beautiful naked women get bumped down further in the forum and that's just not ok.

Jacksonjdr94 my objection wasnt at the OP at all.

You did. By acting how you act, you are. you can say that's not true, but the evidence proves otherwise.

Jacksonjdr94 I'm not picking fights with people for not liking what I love.

Actually, you are. And for some reason you don't seem to understand that everything you said is still here for posterity:

Jacksonjdr94 The entitled crybabies in this thread.

Jacksonjdr94 *******, you don't speak for the customer base.

Jacksonjdr94 I never had any intention of having a conversation with you in the first place, so I really don't give a fuck mate. 👍

This is literally just you trying to start a fight over the topic of getting a non-greenscreen version of greenscreen videos. Everybody that can read, can see what you said. It still exists. It's you trying to start a fight, And now for some reason you're pretending you're not, so you have nothing to contribute, you admitted it yourself you don't have anything to contribute in the quote directly above, and SLR has already said passthrough isn't going anywhere so there is no need to defend it, so as a quite matter-of-fact, your only reason to be here is to start a fight. You literally have nothing to contribute by your own admission.

It very much appears that trying to flame everyone, pick fights and troll this thread until it's locked so that the thread is ignored and we don't get non-greenscreen versions is your ultimate goal. At this point in time, that is EXACTLY what your intent is based on your actions. Here's the beautiful thing about this situation for you, though: You can easily prove me, and everybody else who sees what you're doing, you can prove all of us wrong by simply not posting and further derailing the thread. If you actually mean it, you won't respond thus continuing to derail the thread. If you do respond, you're derailing the thread, which means you proved everyone else right about what you're doing here.

It's actually extremely simple to follow because the actions speak for themselves: If you don't reply, you prove yourself right and prove everybody else wrong by letting people advocate and push through for a solution for the majority that currently have no use or desire for passthrough to get better content for them at no loss to you (because passthrough isn't leaving). If however, you reply at all, or if this thread gets locked, you prove me and everyone else right and you will have proven yourself wrong. I hope you're right that you have no objection to OP at all. We'll see.

ThePointyEnd thx for the ultimatum. But I definitely never said anything against adding a non-green version.

I was only ever objecting to the entitled people who expect passthrough to not exist on here and feel like they're being ripped off because SLR occasionally releases a passthrough scene they dislike, or that the existence of passthrough is somehow ruining all the other content they do like. Which is ridiculous.

If you actually read what I wrote you'd understand this instead of trying to tell me my own opinions.

I never initially tagged anyone. People wanted to argue with me, i went along but whatever.

If you guys want me to stop replying in this thread how about you just don't @ me any further? (You never had to @ in the first place btw) Seems pretty simple.

rolly That's exactly what I was telling them also. I was hoping that not only they let us load custom backgrounds but also let us load a separate video as a background for those of us with VR cameras to be able to shoot and hell, maybe even share, some of our own footage for others to try out. I'm already doing this manually with their VR scenes. They shoot all of them with a K2 Pro, which I used to own for a while, I have a few clips that I manually key on premiere pro and render out again and they look amazing, 1000 times better than any passthrough cameras on any headset because I am using footage from the same camera so the background looks just as crisp as the scene. Hopefully they listen and work on something like this.

metichemsi I guess I don't understand. Isn't the whole point in passthrough is that you see yourself and your own bedroom? So it looks like I'm having sex with a porn star in MY bed.

If you film a background then put that in the background then its the same porn but somewhere else? So if I understand then instead of having sex in a house "how it was filmed" now I'm having sex in a park. It could be cool to change the place but it seems like that wasn't the point in the first place.

This would help fix the videos that are just green.

rerun119 precisely, that is how passthrough is being marketed right now for these scenes. You put on your quest 2 or whatever headset you have that supports passthrough and you watch the scene in your bedroom. You will have to change position in real life when the position in the scene changes, so thats pretty annoying, since the scene can go from standing to laying down. That is to say that some people dont even have headsets that support this.

The main issue I have with this is that there is no commercial headset that even has good passthrough.
What I have been asking SLR is to develop a feature where we can select another video file as a background for passthrough scenes. For example, if I have a video of a park from a relatively similar angle, as if I was also laying down, I could play that second video as a background layer to those greenscreen videos. Does that make sense? That way, those of us with VR cameras can go out and shot clips of different locations to share with everyone and when you watch those greenscreen videos you can pick and chose your video background, just imagine going back and forth between the beach, a park, hell even a crowded mall haha the possibilities are essentially limitless and fully customizable.

What I have been doing on my own today is taking one of their greenscreens and editing that scene on my video editor and manually adding my own backgrounds of my room and living room and just rendering the two video files together as one. The results look 1000 times better than any headset with passthrough because my video backgrounds were filmed with the same camera that the greenscreen scene was filmed in, so the custom background is the same resolution. I dont know if you have tried passthrough with the quest or even the quest 2 but those janky little cameras those headsets, and all headsets right now, suck and will never be as good as actual video footage at full resolution. So in a way, I am manually editing my own background to "fake" passthrough in my house, but it looks 1000 times better. Also, since I am editing the footage myself, I can shoot from all the different angles so that I dont have to move in real life each time the scene changes, like you would with actual passthrough, so it's also better that way.

Anyways, sorry for the longwinded answer. Hope that makes some sense.

I remember VR was never going to work. The devices were not powerful enough, poor image quality, bad editing etc.

People always think, how it is now, is how it's always going to be.
Completely missing the point that these early stages are necessary steps and serve as R&D.

To give you an idea where this tech is going.
Full size 360° holographic models in your room, you can view from any angle, walk around. Reacting in real time to your actions and speech. And, without wearing these heavy headsets.
