SLR needs to strike a balance with keeping users happy and creators happy. The most vocal users may comment, but whether those comments make or break the user experience for the masses is the big question. On the other side, if a creator/studio for any reason--even petty--becomes so uncomfortable with some comments/posters that they decide to pull out of SLR, it could end up being a worse thing for all parties.
Adding comments removal for content creators
- Edited
I have a mixed feelings about this... I mean, from consumers' perspective, if content creators abuse this, it would make it a lot harder to look for good content that people actually want to watch, especially for the people who doesn't have premium accounts.
If they want to sell their content to more people, they obviously need to build some thick skin, and take feedback that actually can help improve their future scenes. But if they don't want to listen for whatever reasons, give them option to disable their comment sections (similar to YouTube). I think this is a much better approach. However, it won't feel like a community anymore... Plus, expecting to see improvements would be meaningless.
On the flip side, deleting comments can be a good thing. Toxicity won't help anyone. Of course, I'm talking about those comments that doesn't really help the community and not the constructive criticisms; comments like, "She shouldn't be a pornstar, so fucking ugly..." or "Your content sucks! Why are you even here? Shutdown this studio!". Stuff like these can lead to tragic and sad moments; suicide (yes, you read that right), studios leaving SLR, etc.
People enter the adult industry for all sorts of different reasons. And sometimes, it's not all about money (over the years, I watched / read lots of interviews, retirements, and tweets from sex workers, so I'm not just saying random things). Perhaps, she just want to feel sexy, or feel good about her sexuality and appearance; negative comments combined with low self-esteem are also some of the reasons why "enhancements" or makeups plays a role in porn (in my opinion, and based on what I had seen and read).
But, if this is how things are going to be, I feel like there should be an additional voting system in order to delete negative comments, rather than deleting those comments without warnings or something. And the community should be able to vote and participate with the deletion process; the option for deleting comments should only be available to heavily down voted comments, so it won't be abuse.
And before I end this, let's look at it from a slightly different scenario. Imagine people found out that some sellers on Amazon (or whatever websites you frequently visit) deletes reviews / low ratings they don't want to see. How would people feel? Are you still going to buy from that seller? Isn't that manipulative? Personally, I think it would make things a lot worse for them, and it will most likely hurt their sales even more.
Putting my own opinion aside for a moment.
It isn't really clear for users of the site, but content creators are fully responsible for their own content. SLR doesn't even have the right to alter any of the videos. The best way to compare it would be YouTube videos. Here the youtubers are also fully responsible for their own content, including how they manage their comments.
I'm not saying SLR is like YouTube, I'm just making the comparison about responsibility.
I can't say I'm the slightest bit surprised. I got banned from commenting because, according to someone at SLR, i used the word "fuck" in my comment, even though it was directed at a room. Quite literally banned from video comments because I said "fucking office". SLR is kinda famous for deleting and banning for things they disagree with, hell the owner got in that huge fight on reddit. I imagine this very comment will get deleted or me banned.
bobbytables I highly doubt you got banned for using the word 'fuck'.
There are studios with the word in their name and plenty of videos with the word in their titles.
Rakly3 I was literally told by SLR staff it's because i was being vulgar using phrases like "fucking" to refer to the sets. Specifically told that was the reason.
bobbytables I think they meant the attitude, not the specific word you used.

One of the “unhelpful” comments in the example studio thread linked above was mine - but only when taken in the context of that single comment. That producer has a long history of combative communication in more than just the SLR forum. He’s been awful on Reddit for a very long time. Congrats to those who watch/enjoy his content. I personally find it terrible — it’s actually a funny irony that one of his channels is Terrible this, Terrible that.
In any case, yes, the block filters introduced on the web SLR platform are useful in this regard. Look forward to full implementation on the headset app too. Hopefully channel/scene block statistics are shared with producers as its own form of data/feedback.
doublevr That guy is a clown. Unless you tell him he's amazing he gets defensive. I've given plenty of compliments but if you mention a single criticism or even a solution in the same comment where you heap praise on the video and he just gets super defensive and petty. It would be better to leave comments on and just hide them from him specifically so he can live in his own bubble.
It's funny how everybody knows this is built specifically to deal with the Pervrt guy.
So from now on we are going to see videos full of positive comments, and no criticism, because they will be deleted.
Are we in Russia or China?
Congratulations, this is the best way to kill a community....

Natch Congratulations, this is the best way to kill a community....
Yepp. What he said.
It's a pretty simple concept: People have ususally no interest to write stuff and to engage with other users if any of their posts could be deleted any time without any due process or explanation and if they could even be banned for simple writing something that doesn't please a creator. That's actually pure despotism.
That's why good communities have moderators enforcing known rules. Everything else is bullshit.
So the comment section will be basically worthless in the future, especially for those seeking honest feedback about a scene from other users.
There's few things more enraging than writing a long comment with honest feedback and finding out later that it was deleted without any explanation or warning. Paying subscribers should have the right to voice their opinion, good or bad. But with this system, it will be just another marketing scheme, not trustworthy at all.
Why even allowing comments in general? Just let the creators write a few glaring comments from fake users, it's pretty much the same result.
LordCrash So the comment section will be basically worthless in the future, especially for those seeking honest feedback about a scene from other users.
It is already a little like that, though. There are users like @n4meless8 who has the "SLR" flair in the forums going into the comments section on every damn video leaving fawning praise as if they were a user, and SLR deletes comments they don't like on their own stuff as well.
They don't want feedback, they want a [positive PR echo chamber.
Will65 Despite the fact that you complain about this quite often, I would encourage anyone reading this to actually take 30 seconds to look at scene comments yourself, since if you do you'll see that there are numerous negative and critical comments on every single SLR Originals scene.
Though I suppose that we could be playing 5d chess and maybe those are planted negative comments?
Though we do indeed often delete comments that are insulting to the performers (most often re: their bodies), guilty as charged.

@n4meless8 is a (paying) user.
I gave him the badge as recognition and appreciation for the stuff he does. - I'll remove it.

Rakly3 what stuff is that exactly? as far as i can tell all he does is try to hype every scene... even not so great ones

- Virtually all new scene announcements in the forum
- Providing actual, useable feedback about many different topics. Not just comments like "this is shit and you guys suck" (not pointing that at you, talking generally)
- doing things like helping other users despite having no obligation to whatsoever
- Being incredibly and meticulously engaged with the community, particularly when it comes to JAV content.
- Doing things like offering up great casting suggestions that went on to become great scenes
Hopefully that paints a clearer picture for you. If not I'd be happy to include more examples, since there are plenty.
Thanks @n4meless8, I know @Rakly3 and I both appreciate you
