Nice!

Have you tried putting the files directly into the movies folder? Probably no compression if on the unit.

How are you viewing the vids? Native viewer? DeoVR app is currently not ready.

I agree, the G2 fit is really top notch right out of the box. As well as not having to put cable retainers all over the ceiling.

Availability and North American support are the big downsides right now. What if you're in the Yukon or Atlanta and get a bad unit. That's $180 gone in just shipping ($60 shipping unit, then back, and then the replacement) 🙁

    Yeah, understandable.

Currently i am using virtual desktop to stream deo vr through steam.

But Deo VR is working on a pico version so it will come eventualy and than its jackpot time.

And a quest 3 wont arrive until fall 2023.

I live in europe and this war is increasing prices of everything. Inflation us kicking off.

I am already frightened of the energy bill at the end of the year.

So before shit hits the fan i pulled the trigger on the pico.

Now back to saving up for the energy bill...

I tested the Pico 4 against the Quest 2. So that I have the best resolution, I downloaded a file. Dream Team of course. The Pico VR allows you to disable the Guardian function in the Lab / Developer setting. This allows you to reset the image in any position, even lying down. Further, you can adjust the image brightness, saturation and contrast. The better resolution is not a wow effect now. The larger focus is great. The processor runs 15% faster, although it's the same. The top search is Deovr in the pico store.

I totally agree. I've got friends in Europe in the same stressful situation. It's almost like, end the war or blow up the world and end the misery. Very stressful. VR might be a good escape.

Where did you order your unit from. Seems like XRshop and Amazon are taking ages to ship.

I live in gernany so I ordered at bestware as they were the first pre order partner but they screwed up.

So on 18th I ordered one from Saturn.

      Received ot on 19th.

      Currently they list 04.11 - 05.11 for 128gb model.

      4 days later

Preordered my Pico 4 from Amazon UK and received it in the US yesterday. To finish the setup I sideloaded the Pico Assistant onto a separate Android device and successfully entered PayPal in the app for in-headset purchases in the Pico store. My old headset is an Oculus Go, so I can't compare it to the Quest 2. To have maximum field of vision I left the spacer out of the Pico 4, which seems fine.

One advantage to the Pico 4 is the ability to play videos from the USB port, giving viewers an alternative to transferring videos onto the headset or streaming. I use a micro SD card with previously-saved videos, placed in a card reader, attached to USB-C dongle. The dongle-dangle only weighs about 20g. So far I've had no problem viewing any of the previously-saved videos I've tried. The card should be first formatted by the headset (which places the Android folders on the card), and then the videos you wish to view should be placed in the Movies folder. If you don't, the headset won't realize they are VR180 side-by-side, and you will need to set the video orientation manually each time. This is what my dongle-dangle looks like.

Honkster This is what my dongle-dangle looks like.

You can't just put pics of your "dongle-dangle" up for anyone to see!! 😆

I too am interested in the new Pico , I would gladly purchase it if I knew it offered definite
visual improvements watching the type of movies that all of us on this forum are interested in.
Would also be a definite buy if I knew the DeoVR app and Heresphere ran on it.

          Honkster
Excellent! I was just wondering that myself.

You can also hook up your USB to any android device via OTG and it will set up the Android folders for you.
Another idea would be a Dual sided USB Stick, USB A on one side USB C on the other side. That's what I use on my phone all the time to transfer podcasts. (Actually I use a USB A / Micro, but same idea)

          Look on Ali

How do the movies look? Can you change the angle, lie down, go on your side etc.

            ajaxmatt

            Yeah, me too.
            Good luck finding one though.
By the time a new batch is ready, DeoVR might (MIGHT) be ready. Heresphere, I don't think so. No idea if they will port it. However, it may run via Virtual Desktop.

            Found this on Czech

"Currently I do not see HereSphere on the Pico store. However it's an android device and HereSphere is not a from scratch product. It uses Unreal Engine. This makes it very likely it could run on a Pico.

If you already have a pico 4 you could try downloading the demo APK file the Quest 2 uses:
            https://heresphere.itch.io/heresphere-vr-video-player-quest-2"

            Hope this helpful 👍

valerianVR The VR movies look much better on the Pico 4. I have discovered that the increased FOV (particularly when the spacer is not used) gives a stronger sense of immersion. The angle can be changed by re-centering the screen, including laying on side or back. But the video player doesn't have fancy controls like Skybox. Twitching the joystick to the left or right will jump 10 seconds forward or back.

Honkster Thanks for your findings , does the image seem sharper and I assume with the
new lenses the overall visuals are clearer ?. Hopefully there will be a Deovr app soon I'm very tempted.

what about a web browser? do vr camsites work in it?

Honkster Thanks ,Puts me off buying one although the Hardware seems an upgrade over the Quest 2
I'm currently using , perhaps in time software will improve.

The built in pico browser was able to support SLR videos directly from the website every time I tried on my Pico4 The only limitations so far is when selecting which quality it only goes as high as 1920 and the low is 1080. However once you enter VR mode and watch the video it takes you into a web browser version of the SLR app. Again this works as normal but the quality is low. Until SLR app is added or DEOvr is added this works for now. 1920 looks pretty decent so can’t wait to see how a native 2160 will look.

alina That's not my experience at all. Using the Pico 4 browser on the SLR site just gives me the two VR buttons when trying to view a video: "DeoVR" and "SLR app". Cilicking either button brings up a small window which includes a "Pico" tab; selecting it tell me to install the DeoVR app from the Pico Store (but that app is not yet in the Pico store!). I also tried installing the DeoVR app for cardboard Android, but it failed to load on the Pico 4.
