mixbets78 dont understand whats the deal with lowering quality of videos? Removing higher bitrate/frame rate download options was bad enough but now this. i posted numerous times on this forum that "jewelz in your room" (which is about twice the bitrate of this new release) and looked amazing should be the gold standard of video quality moving forward, and since than rather than using that quality or improving, weve been going backwards in quality. SLR should be like what i remember being all about: pushing boundaries and aiming for maximum quality and immersion, how good can we get it... not how bad we can get away with, putting SLR behind other top studios regarding quality.

Just checked out vid… 6GB for an hour long video. What a regression of SLR. All the money and hard work and improvements their Original crews have made over the years, only to be slapped in the face with such abysmal encoding and image quality of these low bitrates.

It’s like the loyal customers that download are considered the “enemy” here. Why? We literally are part of the SLR customer base. Vocal probably because we are the hardcore users that have helped SLR become what it is today. But yet we are treated like the 10% of users SLR wants to get rid of. Sad.

Very cryptic post, not sure why this is "Good to know" but it feels like a veiled threat. The ol' we need to remove previously provided services because only x% of users utilize them.

However, until further clarification I'll assume to interpret it this way: since only 10% of users download any files, SLR can increase the number of max downloads allowed by 90%.

OK, then let's remove downloads. Would be interested in what happens then - only one thing is for sure: I'll be gone!
I do belong to those 10% due to various reasons:

often, I'm on trips where I don't have the option to stream - I take my portable HD with my current most liked videos with me
Bandwidth is an issue, I hate it when the scene buffers in the middle of the action
Downloading gives me the freedom to use the player I want
Only reason for me to stay a loyal long term member is having access to SLR Originals. Since they are only available in crappy bitrates anymore, I already asked myself several times whether it's worth staying loyal.
Take away the download-option, and I know the answer.

We are rising the bar to 50Mpbs max encodings. Let's see how it goes. Will update how can you track it. If the quality gets better indeed and there are no major setbacks we might re-encode the whole database.

doublevr You are not rising because your encodings were 120mb+. You are lowering to 50 mb.

And thats a good decision.

Having them at 14 mb its just bad decision and not caring about quality that you provide to subscribers to this website.

Love the justifications. I remember reading a comment that you guys were "discouraged" from making more male pov videos due to unpopularity. Yet, we're flooded with flat videos that struggle to get 10 likes. What is that, less than 1%? Not determinative there right?

The "10%" stat also could only support one conclusion - SLR users desiring an inferior experience. It couldn't be that only 1/10 scenes may be worth downloading (which I don't completely mind bc of the variety of the scenes/models). Completely fine newest SLR videos look like 4K videos from almost a decade ago. Studios like BadoinkVR dunking over SLR was not on my '25 Bingo card.

@doublevr Please address this point. I agree with you, only a tiny fraction of your users are going to download 40+gig files, so why worry about it? The cost is negligible.

The pennies you are going to save on bandwidth is NOT worth the damage you're doing to your reputation. Just let the handful of power users download the massive original files. Our hard drives will fill up eventually, and we'll be back to streaming/downloading the smaller (more convenient) versions in no time (assuming you re-encode them properly).

This fight is not worth having. Please SLR, don't die on this hill.

I want to support SLR, but they keep on making bad decisions similar to Xbox Division of Microsoft (Games Pass is a disaster for gaming).

I wanna spend money but SLR have removed the incentive to spend it, WTF sort of business practice is that ?

I''ll say it again - 'Build it and they will come' - The guys that love this format will do what they can to support it but don't squeeze and push people away for no reason.

Just create a high quality product that people love and they will support you and don't over expand to early into areas that the majority of your users couldn't care less about. Wasted server space that may be impacting VR users by decreasing the bitrate of SLR Originals.

Also, don't antagonise you customers, it won't end well....

Have a 'Sale' on individual scenes or some sort of promotion to excite people... this used to happen all the time but things are very stale lately ! Just my opinion tho 🙂

Hey... at the end of the day no one gives hoot what i say... just trying to help as i think SLR have incredible potential and indeed have made some of the best VR scenes i have ever seen.

However i think i have been asking for Kiara Cole to return for about 25 years now.... maybe a bit less

At least Badoink have filmed her and promise a return, also an awesome 3 girls and guy just released - Wow awesome casting... i think that was about 30gb. so roughly translated about 6gb file for SLR lool

Quick context: these 10% including single file downloads are also 30% more on churn - and more downloads the higher churn. So we’re tuning the product to serve our core users and giving a fair deal for those who want to download as current sub logic is clearly exploited by heavy downloaders.

Just thinking it might be a good time for change after we roll out a new SLR with updated plans:
• Downloads on new plans capped at 15 per month, including up to 3 master files and AV1. Extra bonus - all the plans include sex toy scripts. Existing long-term loyal users keep higher allowances close to today’s. Single PPV purchase gives affected users unlimited download possibilities and probably some sex toy scripts with it.
• Streaming quality bitrate bump to 50 Mbps on new encodes, with older files getting upgraded as we reprocess.
• We keep shipping features and state-of-the-art SLR Originals all the time with incredible to-do list which we soon start landing

We hear the “don’t antagonize customers” point. The goal isn’t to squeeze – it’s to make SLR feel undeniably better to use every day. Hold us to it, and keep pushing us where we miss.

I just don't see the logic here, you are acting like every download is costing you $1 when in reality you are still profiting even if those people max out downloads. The number of light-downloaders or no-downloaders vastly outweighs the number of people that download often, you said it yourself

I could understand if SLR had no download limits, but that is nowhere near the case

Every business has heavy users, it's expected - the vast majority of customers are not heavy users so you end up in profit, so why keep lowering the download limits? It's very poor business and will result in more churn, which you seem concerned about

And it gives SLR a bad reputation of constantly lowering the downloads limit and removing features, while also increasing prices

I don't use downloads often, but I am still gonna fight any changes because it's a load of crap sprinkled in glitter to try and convince people it's a good thing

When I see heavy use customers in my business I think: "wow they must really enjoy it, that's great!" - the first thought process for SLR seems to instead be: "How can we kick out the heavy users and increase profits by 0.001%?"

Too be honest it just looks like every user is gonna be affected by this negatively including myself, but i will leave it to others users to point out their particular issues as everyone will be affected differently.

So for the sake of 'thinking it might be good for a change', seems like quite an odd thing to do and good luck with attracting newer subscribers unless you reduce the price to match the downgrade in service.

Also the prospect of re-encoding older files fills me with dread as some of them are perfect as they are and to potentially downgrade those from 120mbs to 50mbs doesn't really appeal to me personally - But i guess if you use the Original Source File to re-encode these files they might look ok, maybe release a test file alongside the original file for user feedback ?

Anyway, i'll leave it there and see where this goes.

Silly-Sausage He's specifically talking about streaming quality bitrate, which I don't think is anywhere near 120Mbps at the moment (that's the download-only master quality), or ever was for that matter. Essentially as I understand it the highest quality non-master encode will be increased to 50Mbps

doublevr Could you be more specific about wording like long-term existing loyal user and close to? Also, since AV1 is mentioned, does this mean master quality downloads for scenes currently locked behind PPV options will be free (within that limit), or are you talking about specifically AV1 streaming quality encodes? And, since you're talking about increasing streaming quality bitrate to 50 Mbps, does this mean that "master quality streaming" which you teased quite a while ago as "coming soon" has been abandoned as a project?

doublevr I have previously praised the current SLR originals for reaching top tier quality, not referring to the latest extremely low bitrate scenes (such as the one with Hazel Moore which I haven't watched because Im not into PT) but rather the Nash/John Strong and the SLRO latina productions of the last months.

However the 30 Mbps cap does seem to affect it negatively which is sad considering the otherwise great quality of your recent scenes, so personally I am happy if there will be a higher Mbps streaming standard as well as a higher bitrate download option. I might want to download a few favorites (mostly because I experienced internet before the streaming era, and being able to "hold on to" your favorite things just feels better) and the old 120 Mbps files seemed a bit excessive to me, the competition has around 50-90 Mbps as well. The latest Melanie Marie VRSpy scene was one of the best VR scenes I've watched in terms of quality (and that was a 50ish Mbps version I believe)

You have a lot of great scenes coming up based on the SLR Backstage Pass thread, so I'm hoping the bitrate increase happens before most of those go live
