Really excited for the Blackmagic cine camera and DeoVr Hyper.

For flat videos I would really like to upload the 2d videos I own to SLR drive and have it converted to VR (using depth map AI?), otherwise I don't think I would watch flat videos in VR.

jommy I just read through this entire thread and I'm still confused on what impact bringing in 2D will have on new VR content, and I still don't know what "all 2D" means. There is only so much of a budget, so any investment in 2D could have went to more VR. Everyone that is currently a subscriber is here for VR, and the reason I have abandoned all my other VR subscriptions is due to SLR being so progressive with technology that pushes VR immersion (PT AI hidden male, I love you). SLR is like cutting edge of porn and 2D is prehistoric. With the amount of quality free 2D porn, and volume of established competitors I don't think this is a good move for SLR. I understand their logic, I just don't think it is going to pan out. If Heresphere or POVR figure out PT AI they will quickly suck a lot of business away. SLR needs to keep pushing the envelope to stay on top. There are few big VR sites (competitors), and VR Porn is a continuous growing market. Why would a company pull back from staying on the forefront of a growing market by investing in a saturated market? In my HVAC world this would be like the current heat pump market leader deciding it wants to jump into gas boilers.

2D Porn? I'm not watching it, and if it affects the VR content and tech progression my eye will wander towards other services that step up.

Someone else said April fools isn't for a few months. After reading the initial post I actually did have to confirm it wasn't a post from April 1st that got necro'd. SLR saying we are going "all 2D"? What?

There's two things you can think about

How to keep VR users entertained & paying (hire X talent, film X scene, yada yada)
How to convert new VR users (2D videos to get them on the platform and promote VR directly for free)

I think it might come down to needing more customers consuming and paying for VR porn which will then get more producers and talent interested in creating it, more overall diversity

And of course more customers = more $$ to spend on making content

Maybe people aren't thinking of the long-term full-picture, you can't just say "let's put 100% of funds into new VR porn" and then become successful, businesses are a lot more complicated than that! You have to think what will happen in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years down the line and plan accordingly

I don't have the figures or anything so I could be totally wrong but that's the feeling i'm getting

EDIT: And oh yeah, as mentioned just above - that sweet sweet analytical data from 2D viewers is basically a paint-by-numbers of what to film in VR scenes

doublevr explain that. how is too much vr porn being made? it's definitely less than 15% of all studio porn made. Maybe even that sounds like a lot but professional porn is constantly decreasing in mainstream appeal so it's 15% of something that will eventually be a niche market.
Besides that flat porn has over a decade headstart (of what is still relevant for people to watch). That's probably why slr has only 35k videos available while there are at least a million high quality flat videos out there. The ability to find videos that are exciting in VR is way lower as a result. So if anything you need more VR videos not less. However, you need more videos of higher quality, with better talent and more diverse (not the same POVerty video 9/10 times). That's what so many people have said on here already.

I don't understand how they can claim that VR Porn is a saturated market. You can't even watch VR Porn with decent quality without paying for a subscription.

It seems the theme here is to drive more people to the site to subscribe and that will be good for all of us. Well expecting people to pay for flat porn ain't going to do it. But the free low quality VR is a great way to do it, and you can do that without investing in additional content that would draw funding away from more VR content.

Whoever came up with the free low quality VR porn idea is the one management should be listening to, along with listening to us. You are getting free marketing advice from your target audience.

To anyone applauding this flat porn idea I ask, do you want flat porn at the cost of less VR? Because that is how it will inevitably work.

Flat porn... Fuck it, let's tear this whole thing down and go back to jerking it to Victoria's Secret catalogs like pre internet porn.

I didn’t come here for flat content. If this means less budget or focus towards innovation in 3d vr content then I will find another site that still places their priority on 3d vr content.

I had written up a whole thing trying explain that using the term "saturated" for the VR porn market, then comparing it to flat porn, is disingenuous at best. I'd guess I could watch VR porn for the next 10 years and never repeat a scene. But I could easily watch flat porn for a couple centuries without repeats. Which of those is truly "saturated'?

But I think doubleVR is talking about market share, not content. Saturation is a weird word to use in that context, but he's likely referring to the idea that the slice of uncommitted VR consumers is shrinking and that capturing that shrinking market is becoming much more competitive compared with when SLR started.

I disagree in part. If anything, the market is growing. However, there are a lot more direct competitors for that growing market. I have no idea what the net is on that. But I think the below graph can do a lot to refute the idea that VR is going to be a "challenging" market.

Actually, I kind of see it now. The table says more than the graph does, but it looks like the VR Porn industry is projected to slow when expressed as a year-to-year percentage--no longer having the doubling of the past couple years.

A tightening after explosive growth is to be expected though. So reacting to that as a "problem to be solved" is sketchy.

And that third column is a great big "fuck you and byebye" to flat porn.

fuccaneer spot on. My major concern is that VR porn production nowhere matches variety, scenarios, casting pool, direction of overwhelming flat porn. We even had to step up and lead production with Originals. It's still not enough. Take away our PT, sex toys and similiar effort - it's like really little evolution was done on production side of things.

Getting a ton on the best quality flat porn on SLR should give us a good idea where we want VR porn production going. We are further boosting our VR Originals production efforts, we just have to know what are the things to do

No idea where the numbers after 2026 are coming from but this projection is just nuts. VR porn market will double in 2025? And in 2029 will be bigger than the entire porn market was supposed to be in 2024? Does that sound even remotely realistic? I think the VR porn market never grew as much as people were expecting or hoping in 2020. The future of porn happened elsewhere, Onlyfans alone probably being bigger than the entire VR porn market ever will be. AVP and Q3S have not boosted growth in 2024. Some studios seem to have stopped producing lately (RealityLovers, PornCorn), still no major 2D porn players have entered VR. To me all this rather looks like a saturated market than a bright future, and therefore I get why SLR is now trying to go flat and phones and onlyfans.

From a comment a few months ago:

More build up, more storyline. We want to relate to the actress(es).
More escalation, more sexual tension. Don't want the sex happening within 4 minutes. "Hardcore Stepmom" by SLRO, "Short Story long" by VRPlayful, "Modern Relationship" by SLRO are the model scenes to be replicated and adapted.
We need way more FF+M scenes - very infrequent lately and all the upcoming ones for the next month or so seem to be presumably vanilla FM only which is frustrating. Also, we want more interaction between girls in FF+M scenes, don't want one to be "spectator" watching the other having it.
More 1.5h+ scenes.
More exploration of immersive elements, things unique to VR porn that make it great - face licking, ear licking, lengthy kissing, spit exchange, squirt into camera. Spit exchange is now an occasional thing. Super hot, but can be even more lengthy and frequent like seen in JAV.

That's because directors each converge on one style and then get settled into a rhythm of churning out scenes. They end up producing the same thing on repeat, just with different girls. You see it with every VR studio and not just SLR Originals.

If you want more variety in content then you need to have more variety in directors.

I think getting flat porn is a mistake. Nobody is going to come to SLR to watch flat content when there are better sites for that. The best flat content will remain exclusive to the sites that produce it and SLR will end up with generic flat porn that isn't anything special.

This scares me. Flat porn is not the same thing as VR. This is one of the biggest problems with VR porn. The people making it just keep making flat porn with a VR camera.

WE all on here have tried for years now to tell the directors what WE want and how 2d porn doesn't work for VR.

Rustam1990 Emphasis on number 5. Its wild that those things you mentioned are often rarely seen in scenes. Vr had a lot of things that work to its advantage that some studios are either aren't aware of or are just too lazy at times to really capture it.

It's not necessarily just directors. It is camera and lighting. VR cams / porn are still relatively new. Not to mention there is still ZERO way to actually view in real time what the scene will TRULY look like while filming. You can see the two lenses in realtime, but you cannot actually see how that will look with a headset on. 2D porn you can quite literally see exactly what you are doing and how it will look.

For my last scene we shot 2D promo shots of the entire storyline (every position). It took about a 10th of the time to set up camera and lighting as compared to 3D view. There are many constraints with filming in VR, so 'falling into a rhythm' makes sense for most producers (in my opinion) as the alternative could be costly until better VR support for filming is discovered.

SLR has script and passthrough technology, which to my knowledge no other pornsite (VR or otherwise) has. I watch 2D porn with the headset at times. Imagine your favourite 2D scenes with scripts and passthrough.

Has SLR not been making money? I subscribe to a few VR specific sites, but use the others less and less due to SLRs PT AI. I wish SLR the best and hope that I'm wrong, but I don't see 2D porn bringing in customers, unless the 2D is free.

If the flat stuff looks like the SLR AVP trailers..where it’s a 2D screen with 3D filming I can enjoy that. The quality looked good on those even those it’s not 180.

That being said, this direction/strategy makes no sense to me at all. I think SLR should be focused on making their current members and subscribers happy and loyal than trying to grow and appeal to the average joe.

Get the VR the best possible and the word will spread. You don’t need to lure people in with 2D stuff that they can already get anywhere for free. What will lure them in is people going crazy telling them have to see the awesome vr stuff that’s coming out.

I don’t like how it sounds like the current subscribers who have been paying monthly for years aren’t the priority. It’s like a company shitting on their shareholders.

SchnuppiLilac I have no idea. From the Resources section it looks almost all the data was from 5 or more years ago. They call it meta-analysis so they must have bought or stolen it from someone else. Garbage in, garbage out? Probably.

However, its something more than my personal gut impressions. Rhetorical question, but what's worse, pulling stats out of your ass or quoting references?

I'm open to the possibility of 2D to 3D/VR viewing, but the current selection of 2D on SLR is not doing it for me, and of the thousands added, I would most likely only be interested in a couple handful. I still have a Naughty America sub, and I would never watch their 2D when VR is available.

Having said that, AI 2D is on the rise, and for me it's like experiencing porn for the first time all over again; it's like visually stunning eye-candy taken to a whole new level. I'm still blown how an AI web application can take a 2D image and create a high-quality animation from it, including generating images and videos from text. That is the new revolution we are in the early stages of, like VR used to be.

Drive and the direction SLR is taking with AI and Flats is the means for us to experience not only what they have to offer, but to also experience our own personalized and curated, downloaded/uploaded videos consisting of both VR and 2D content. I never got the chance to use these AI websites (even 2D to 3D conversion apps), but people are already using them and publishing their created content online. As if seeing these wonderful creations weren't enough, there exists the potential to upload them to my SLR drive and see them in immersive 3D/VR. YouTube and AI websites that host thousands of generated life-like images and videos would be the new Pornhub for me, while transforming them into 3D/VR would be a simple click and upload away.

I upgraded to a lifetime a couple months ago, but if SLR is partnering with or in the early stages of working on their own AI software that can use all 2D and VR videos as a database to train their AI models to create AI porn on demand (from reference images, videos, text, tags, models, shorts, Flats, etc.), that would be worth something I would gladly pay and support. Even if not, AI porn, Drive, and 2D to 3D/VR are the next best things I didn't know I wanted. 🤗

I've always sensed a kind of hesitancy within SLR to delve too deeply into niche stuff. Part of it is the producers and their vanilla tastes.
But look how SLR treats Trans and Gay niches. Sure, they have it, but those sections barely get the minimum of attention from SLR staff: links and pages are fucked up, took forever to get AI scripts, still no AI PT, half the scenes don't have star names, heatmaps, or position tags. etc etc etc.

And I have to wonder whether the flat content SLR brings on board is going to be any different than the mainstream vanilla content we already see in VR. And, frankly, the same mainstream vanilla content that makes up 90% of all flat porn too.

Are we going to see intense LegalPorno-like gangbangs?
Or what about IR content like Blacked and BlacksonBlondes?
SLR already has a relationship with Kink.com, but are we gonna see shit from DeviceBondage, ElectroSluts, or UltimateSurrender?
What are the chances we'll see some Oldje scenes or granny porn?
Wet & Messy would be the simplest shit to film in VR, but we barely have any. Why would we think that SLR will bring in WAM?
I could continue to rattle off niches, but I think I made my doubts clear.

Frankly, I figure they'll contract with some 2nd rate content distributor to get 10 year old vanilla shit like CumFiesta and MilfHunter. Or, worse, a bunch of OnlyFans BS with 10000 identical POV BJ scenes in portrait mode and another 10000 identical POV JOI solo scenes. Then they'll proudly crow when the bring in some FFFM flat content like BFFS and go "here, you wanted FFFM, we got it for you"--and totally missing the point of the requests.

And what lessons are they gonna learn from the flat viewing stats? That people like big dicks, teen girls, huge tits, and fake incest.
