doublevr rtx5000 gpu's supports MV-HEVC too. Curious, why would MV-HEVC be fine if AV1 is not?

Same for me: I am old and need reading glasses for sharp close-ups. I hear there are reading glasses for cameras (diopters) to shorten the focus distance. Is this an option?

Let me share my opinion. Not because I would know something about filming. Because I have watched way too many videos and spend probably years of my time with SLR and I think I am pretty sharp eyed. I think I read BM close up limit is about 50 cm. SLR is full of bad closeups, because they are way too close (maybe 20 cm) and you get cross eyed. It is easier to adjust DeoVR or HereSphere closer than further, because if you get cross eyed you can not fix that. However you can adjust zoom level if you want closer.

So all in all far off (50 cm) is better than way too close (20 cm). I would see this "limit" as opportunity. No bad cross eyed closeups anymore because directors know the limit.

Look at that StripZVR trailer. If it is filmed with BM it looks really sharp and the corner of the blanked on the bed is probably 20 cm away. Much closer than 50 cm and it looks really good. How can you make this as a problem? I dont want to mock anybody but maybe you should ask StripzVR guy how to film correctly.

fenderwq Pretty sure he's just saying that IF they end up using the footage (independent decision just based on if they can work out close up problems), then one way to make it workable for Apple Vision Pro (which does not have AV1 hardware support, but is probably the VR headset that would benefit the most from high resolution footage) would be to stream MV-HEVC, which the AVP does have hardware support for

doublevr Well IMHO it would then just become a gimmick. I mean I don't even bother about the intro part of a scene, I always skip directly to the action. Adding an extra camera to the setup, just for that intro part, I don't know to me it feels more like trying hard to find at least some use case for this camera while in fact, if it can't do POV, better keep things simple and just not use it at all, sell the cam and wait till something better comes along. Just my 2 cents

I have watched the StripzVR trailer, and I agree that what is close to the viewer didn't look too bad. On the other hand, there was not much to look at in that trailer.

From the SLR test footage, it didn't look like avoiding the super close cross-eyed distance alone will do the trick. If the closest a face can get is 0.5 m, not close enough.

I think It does not matter for kissing if done properly. SLR videos lack of kissing and intimacy nowadays anyway so we dont lose anything 🙁 I still think BM might be better, but we need proper testing and samples.

For Japanese videos I would not recommend it (more intimacy with kissing etc). Those are my favourite and you could improve them simply by better resolution. Pretty much everything is still 4K instead of 8K. Lots to improve in that area.

Mate - I agree with most of what you say, but please don't get SLR to fuck up anything else.

As someone knowledgeable above said 'We don't want another Canon debacle' - That was one of the biggest disasters of this site, but they are now trying to outdo themselves 🙂

I've looked at the footage and samples of BM and it's obvious to me that this camera has issues, so why push for something that is worse or at best slightly better at certain distances ? Only to piss everybody off... people are mental on this site, asking to potentially fuck up everything for slight, incremental improvements !

WTF is going on with SLR ? It's like a competition of what can we break next that took us years to get working for a few months, only to fuck it up again.

It has literally taken me years of feedback / whinning to help get SLR Originals back to where we are now, where they again fighting for the top spot of VR Studios

If you get it working nicely, you have to stick with it for at least 2 years to get the rewards without having the costs of new equipment, just for the sake of it.

If you guys carry on down this route, you are destined to fail - sorry just being honest !

Nah I don't agree at all. I mean sure the quality is nice and all but the next gen headsets is here/coming soon. Of course we have the AVP already for some time but since it's so expensive it's been out of reach for many. But it seems next week Project Moohan wil already start rolling out and Valve supposedly is also in mass production stage already.

These nextgen headset need next gen videos. Again, the current SLR originals look great but they're not even close to what's possible already on the AVP, I've seen a demo with 16k video and it's just crazy good and totally blows the current SLR productions out of the water. So I can totally understand SLR is pushing forward, it's what they need to do and what they indeed are doing, I'm really happy with that. But of course, sh*t happens, progress never comes easy and the road forward is always full of bumps. It seems this new BM cam is no good for porn. Too bad, but if it can't be improved then it is what it is, better confront that reality and sell the cam. Hopefully something better will come along soon.

I'm fine to agree to disagree as you have put forward many great points which i agree with in the perfect world - but in the real world of economics and user base the VR Porn Industry revolves around the Q3 atm and not the high end user.

So IMO SLR needs to make sure they look after that user base without disrupting what work well at this moment in time - I've seen nothing from the BM that has impressed me - Far from it.

But i totally understand you pushing for higher resolutions for the high end users.
