Is the Passthrough AI feature not available on the Index? I'm using the DeoVR App on Steam and although I see all these videos claiming to have the Passthrough AI feature available I don't see how to actually turn it on.

Also, alpha passthrough seems to do absolutely nothing on videos that claim to support it as well.

    Lithium, hi there!
    Some questions here, please 🙏
Does it happen with a certain video?
Are both your DeoVR app and SteamVR fully updated?
Do you receive any error messages, or does the passthrough option appear in the settings menu but simply not respond?

Thanks for responding. I'm pretty sure I have the latest versions of DeoVR (14.2.2385) and SteamVR (2.8.6).

I see this on every video. For example: https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/bar-sex-in-ventspils-48585?tab=passthrough
It explicitly states it has AI passthrough enabled and that the Index is compatible, but when I open it in DeoVR I see no option for it. I can open the settings and toggle passthrough on, but all I get are chroma-key settings and there's nothing about Passthrough AI that I can see.

On videos that have alpha packing passthrough (like https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/therapy-and-temptation-34535) I can see the option for it in DeoVR and toggle it on, but it does absolutely nothing. I have to resort to chroma-key - that works as expected.

Lithium Hello! I was having this problem too with my index the past few days. The passthrough doesnt work at all even when turned on and the same can be said for the alpha packing, also doesnt work.

thatthotok Thanks, at least I know I'm not the only one.

So I take it that the Index only supports chroma-key passthrough.

This is misleading. Even the blogpost @doublevr linked to lists the Index as a "suitable" headset for SLR.
The passthrough guide (https://www.sexlikereal.com/blog/361-the-complete-guide-to-passthrough-on-slr) mentions the Index as if it supports passthrough, without clarifying that this only includes chroma-key passthrough, not AI, and not alpha packing.

Every video that has Passthrough AI lists the Index as a "compatible" headset.

I went all-in on a lifetime membership largely based on the idea that the Index was implied to support Passthrough AI. The only requirement seemed to be using the DeoVR.

I don't like this one bit...

Lithium going to fix all the text part. Things change over time.
Steam VR is decaying technology. Not much we can do.

The same with cardboards, Go, Quest 1 etc

          Don't kill the messenger

doublevr I understand. I'm not going to get upset at a particular person, but I think SLR in general is at fault for misleading users into thinking that they claim specific features work on specific devices when they, in fact, do not. That things change over time and technology becomes deprecated does not excuse SLR from making false claims: And anybody reading the SLR posts and site would naturally believe that they support the Index for things like Passthrough AI and alpha-packing.

I do wonder if such features did, at some point, work in some fashion (I know the Index itself has a limited roomview overlay that sort of works for chroma-key passthrough) or if SLR didn't even bother to test things before claiming that devices are supported.

A simple admission of fault, a simple apology, would be nice. An offer to refund part of the fee would be even better: I would like to hold onto my membership in case I at some point upgrade my hardware, but I think I have a right to be a bit upset at SLR in general, no?

Lithium totally. Sorry about that. Doing our best to make things work.

Tech thug life ain't easy bro.
There are trade offs to take if we want to keep things going.
Otherswise we are going to be where Valve index is.

Your feedback is much appreciated. Like really 👊

We are choosing where to put our limited resources between doing new cool things or supporting old stuff that's going to die if not tomorrow then the next year.

A kind user reached out to me advising that older versions of the DeoVR App on Steam do at least have alpha-packing videos working properly.

I did some testing and up to version 14.1.2235 does indeed have functional alpha-packing.

For those who are interested in rolling back:

              1. Navigate to the following URL: steam://open/console and open the link using the Steam Client Bootstrapper (might need to have Steam already running - not sure).

              2. In the console enter:
                download_depot 837380 837381 9195184036657754427

That will download the specific DeoVR version. The download will show no progress until it completes (or errors out for some reason - might have to try again if it does) at which point it will print out where the files got downloaded, probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_837380\depot_837381 or something like that.

              1. Maybe make a backup of the common\DeoVR Video Player folder (in SteamApps folder - wherever your games go). Move the files you downloaded to there, replacing everything.

              2. To prevent Steam from updating the app: Find the appmanifest_837380.acf file in your SteamApps folder and set the file attributes to read-only. This technically should cause Steam errors when attempting to update the app. Haven't quite verified yet, but it appears to be working.

              Hope that helps someone.
