Ok, just last moth a small developer released a game on steam that fully supports not just passthrough but also your room mesh for real-time interaction with real world items and furniture.

I think its about time SLR starts looking into this and look to implement it on their app.
Now there is no reason to keep saying its not possible.
For anyone curious to try it out, its a little demo more than anything but its pretty interesting to actually play around with it. If they had more customization options or models it could be a fun sandbox thing to play around with.
By the way, the thing I had the most fun with was a model scale option they have, for those of you who complain about the scale of some of the new 8K scenes, dont bother, but for anyone else who would like to see 15ft anime models tower over you while they get drilled by a dildo check it out 😆

From vr dev perspective steam is dead, link is bad idea. Getting stuck with tech used by 1% of VR users won't make it great.

Room mesh concept is cool. Steam link is not working for some reason. Would really like to check it

doublevr Not sure I quite understand, steam is dead in regards to VR development? Quest link via cable while using your steam app is the only way to watch PT videos that you download, but that doesnt work, of course the usage is virtually non-existent. I know your roadmap is to push streaming as the #1 priority but the only other way to watch PT videos you download is to either load them on the abysmal memory the headset has or setup your own network streaming solution with a nas or something similar, which most people dont want to really bother with. I dont know why i feel like some of us are asking for something completely alien? We are simply asking for a way to watch PT videos, which by the way you are leading the way in trying to push the tech, by using a tethered method. For the longest time your responses have always been meta doesnt allow that, ok but that has obviously changed because now even small developers are able to do so. I just dont get it, you push and make super high quality PT videos and want people to watch them but dont want to offer users a way to enjoy them at the absolute highest possible quality? Your app on quest doesnt even recognize an external usb drive like some other apps do on quest??? Tell me, meta also doesnt allow that or are you going to say less than 1% of users actually use that also? I know im not the only one thats been asking for link support, just search quest link support and you will see plenty of other people asking for it and having to use workaround methods with other apps just to achieve that like virtual desktop instead of natively supporting it.

doublevr also i think the link doesnt work because you need to be signed in to watch adult content, if you are not logged in to steam while trying to open the link it wont let you, i guess your team really doesnt use steam by the looks of it.
Here you can use the steamdb link page to at least look at something i guess

silentcoder its not dead, they just say that because they simply have no interest in spending time and effort to develop it when most of their users use the meta app on the headset and simply stream. We all know that people who download their SLR scenes and want to watch them in the highest possible quality, we dont even use the SLR app, we use better options like heresphere, so no wonder they think steam app usage is "dead" lol because their existing option sucks and has no development. If they actually fixed it and added PT support then maybe people would actually want to use it haha This is just another example of tech bureaucrats saying they know exactly what we want lol

silentcoder right? the actual gameplay is not the point, but the tech side of it and the integration of PT and depth mapping is awesome, sure this can already be done through the headset directly, but tethered link support opens up the door for 3rd party developers, specially in porn, who would never get approved to be on the meta store to make and sell apps like this. Its such a no brainer.

metichemsi yeah, the issue is script streaming and passthrough though. If they kill of deovr pc they should just allow heresphere to allow streaming scripts and passthrough. Or better yet download that both but that's pretty unlikely

Steam Link works 10x better than Meta’s Links

If something works over Quest Link it should work over Air Link as well right? I’d guess much more people use that vs. wired. Combined (Steam/Quest/Air Link) I don’t think its a small group

fenderwq They will never let you use Heresphere for streaming. Because it is better and that hurts people's feeling.
Instead of becoming better than them, just ban them and say we are better.

rerun119 ah that sucks. Although I agree that Heresphere is better, I doubt even 10% of SLR subs use it. I don’t think they ‘banned’ Heresphere but simply decided not to invest into working with the app (they’d have to set up config themselves afaik).

                  adinihsan

                  Virtual Desktop + HereSphere

Connoisseurs of VR use LAN streaming and HereSphere because the dynamic sharpening makes the experience feel more "real". I get 2.5 GB per second through 6e wireless. Web streaming is, at best, 500 MBPS.

adinihsan of course not, its superior and people dont use it because they want scripts to also work with their "devices" I personally could care less for devices, ive used a wide range of them and sure its "cool" in the moment but that post nut clarity hits real quick once you finish and realize you got all that crap to clean up and put away. Not worth it unless you are a hermit and have no issue with other human contact. Heresphere is still my prefered method of playback using my NAS for streaming PT content.

Uzername true but even a couple of PT scenes is enough to fill the device up and constantly transferring and deleting from the device that's forever. I'll tell you what would also easily fix everything but im sure @doublevr has a reason to say nobody uses or meta doesnt allow, is to simply allow the app to read from an external drive connected to the headset. I have at least one video player app I use to do this, its not perfect but it works, how hard would that be? They simply dont care for offline, downloaded media being played. Its not streaming, they are not collecting usage data, and it doesnt translate to subscriptions in their eyes, and ultimately that is all they seem to care about.

Uzername metichemsi again, I agree HS is better. Still, the userbase is likely minimal for SLR (with or without toys). They’ve made their own platform and it makes sense business wise to stick to it. Fortunately its a good platform (unlike Play’A) so I don’t really see a problem.

You CAN watch SLR in HS btw, but it would use a download, still this means you can pick 30+ scenes per week (redownloading same scene won’t count), which seems like plenty tbh

adinihsan one more thing about HS. They ask you €30 (pretty ridiculous) for no interruptions. Steam/Meta version are completely seperate, I asked for a Meta key as I had already purchased and they basically told me to f*** off and buy again.

Deo is free and much more user friendly, most SLR users won’t look twice at HS
