The 8K upscale will definitely looks better. I will say 50% improvement with smoother edge and balance color.

kimura9988 Hmmm I guess I perceive things differently than fender. I have a Pimax 8kx and a Q3 and while the Q3 is a lovely device with very nice clarity, I think true 8k videos look better on the Pimax 8kx. I can see the big jump in clarity more so on my Pimax than the Q3. The colors and contrast are nicer on the Q3 though.

As for FOV, I mean that’s what matters so much to me for porn. Going to a Q3 I cannot unsee the borders. It feels limiting for me. But since you have stated you don’t care too much about that, I suppose it’s a non-issue.

I do love my Q3 for travel though. And I think it’s an amazing device. Super convenient, sleek, and great for the price. But if I’m at home, I will 100% always use my Pimax over the Q3. I also find it easier to control with my mouse and/or a Xbox controller connected to my PC than the two Quest controllers. (For reference I use Heresphere and I’m a downloader)

g2kbuffetboy I guess I just wait for some upcoming headset then. Maybe the Pimax12K will be perfect for all scenario in my case.

kimura9988 something like that. But like I said for video you will notice it only on the best 8k scenes. Not the blurry ones. VR Bangers latest vids for example. So the percentage of perceived difference can be 0% a lot the time (apart from the colors). Let me explain:

I mentioned gaming mostly because it becomes very apparent that the screens are just better when there is enough resolution, bitrate and sharpness being fed to the device. Also, 8k video is generally not enough to max out the quest 3 or the 8kx if it's not perfectly in focus and the pixels aren't utilized to get the upmost of the resolution (very few 8k scenes manage that).

One way to see this in action is by zooming a video out as far as it goes. If the quality increases it's a video limitation if it doesn't than it's a headset limitation.

fenderwq what i see the best in VRbangers with 8KX is the scene Stepmommy's Creampie with Emma & Kiara. I think that is the top notch in term of quality and color, When I'm using heresphere with 1.5 resolution & Msaa + 4 Sharpen.

kimura9988 yeah, it's kinda sad that people like me, that are willing to spend good money on a headset, are using a quest 3 now. I've been looking at the 12k for years but kinda lost faith. I don't get why we don't have a good fov, 4k per eye headset by now. The screens are there (for lcd) apparently. Ahh well, hope this year will bring something interesting. Maybe the Samsung / Google collaboration.

kimura9988 yeah, I do the same. With quest I'd just stream it with godlike on virtual desktop. But I don't see much difference between heresphere quest native tbh. The biggest one is that they use a very different sharpening algorithm

fenderwq 2 questions.
How do you stream videos from your PC to your Quest 3? I'm sure it is probably easy to do but I just haven't tried it yet. Is there a web page you can send me to so I can read how to do it?

Secondly is do you or anybody body else know how to buy a refurbished Pimax 8kx? After my 8kx broke I was just going to wait until the new 12k came out. I am starting to think that is never going to happen. All Pimax does is send me deep discounts for the Crystal all the time. This doesn't look good for the future of the company.
I had problems with convenience with the 8kx all the time and I think it is still worth it with the FOV. Pimax + Heresphere is the ultimate experience.

The way I am doing this depends on the player I am using on Q3. Heresphere simply accesses SMB shares, for DeoVR you need a DLNA server like Plex, Skybox has its own PC app and system (Airscreen).

rerun119 well there are many ways to stream on your home network using heresphere. Probably the most popular is to use xbvr https://github.com/xbapps/xbvr and the heresphere quest app. You can also stream from a file server but something like xbvr will give you meta data, funscript support and a lot more.
What's also possible is just to use steam vr on your desktop as normal but use virtual desktop (the best) or steam link to connect to your pc from your quest. This is also a very good option but it is slightly less convenient and needs a strong network and good gpu.

As for the pimax, I wouldn't know. Google around I guess. Yeah, about that 12k, it was super exciting when they announced it but if and when they ever release it it wil likely be dead on arrival, oitdated. Why did they even make the crystal and that weird portal thing?

Skybox is the easiest for me, it just let's you log into your computer and have access to your folders.

Piguas is OK it does the same as skybox, just log it.

But if you want to stream from your phone to your headset you can download mediaserver, push the play button and you'll see it in your smb in the streaming app u use on quest.

fenderwq I think the crystal is going to bankrupt the company. I can't see many people buying that over other headsets. FOV was their whole thing that made them different and then they make a headset that is just like all the rest, except it cost more. Sad

I switched from 8kx to Quest 3 and if money wouldn't be a thing I would have kept both.
The fov is really so so awesome, I liked even the 5k super more than the Quest 2.... but only for porn.
For games I would prefer Quest because of wireless... since there's STILL no Half Life Alyx 2 or something similar I do regret my decision ... but only a little bit (: Passthrough is nice 🤤
