Yeah, that sounds like someone just looking for an excuse to bail.
Though it could be argued that the perceived "intimacy" of VR/AR could be a substitute for IRL intimacy. If a partner is already feeling neglected, then the idea that you would seek "intimacy" through another outlet could be offensive.
Honestly, though, its probably not specific to VR porn. Before the advent of VR porn, I had to explain numerous times to different partners how my use of porn wasn't a reflection on them or our relationship.
