spatialsplooge Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, 2.6 is out. I’m talking about 26–for this fall’s releases, Apple is changing how it does version numbering across all its platforms so that they all match, and is using the following year (since these releases occur later in the year) to do so.

That said, I never ran 2.6. So I can’t confirm whether or not whatever change they made to 26 that breaks this trick has also been rolled into 2.6. So, I’d still be cautious anyway.

Lucky catch on the auto-update—dodged a bullet there 😅. Definitely smart to stay cautious, Apple’s forced updates can sneak up anytime.

I’m not going to upgrade Vision OS 26 either. Its a shame because there are a few features that I would like, for me specifically:

1) Safari (3D photos from 2D while browsing in “Spatial Browsing”; “Native” Playback of 180 and 360 Degree Videos)
2) Create Folders in Home View
3) Unlock iPhone with Vision Pro

However, weighing them (and the other stuff) against the loss of the Passthrough workaround is just no competition. I will stay where I am.

I’m on visionos 2.6 but only developer beta 2, not 26.

The force quit hack works fine for me as outlined above for pass thru.

But what I cannot for the life of me seem to get to work are any hand controls while in VR/SLR Hub mode. I can select items but although I can invoke the onscreen “controller” with an index/thumb gesture it doesn’t do anything. I cannot pan, tilt, zoom or shrink the onscreen image. Looks and sounds fantastic but that virtual controller does nothing and I cannot seem to adjust anything with the visual image.

Any tips?

I’m guessing the virtual hand control just isn’t functional at this point. I can open settings while a vid is playing and adjust zoom, yaw, etc so that kinda works.

For -anyone- with an AVP you really should try this hack/exploit with SLR passthru to see the full potential of what the AVP can do if someday enabled to do this natively. I have a Q3 and there is quite literally zero comparison between passthru on that vs on AVP. The clarity, brightness, etc on AVP is literally like she’s right there kneeling in front of you. Achingly perfect rendering of the best passthru AR imaginable to date. Def try this before it’s gone with a future update! You will literally be blown away.

harigeharry I don’t know about the beta, but I am on the full version of 2.6 now and the passthrough workaround is still working fine for me.

Stirling So I just upgraded to the official 2.6.0.1 (currently the latest official version) and like everybody already said, the passthrough trick does NOT work anymore on this version., passthrough mode is not enabled any more by the force quite screen. Too bad. I thought I'd try it and if it wouldnt work I'd sell the device and buy the Project Moohan headset that should be out soon. So that's what I'll do, also for AV1 support.

The AVP is a great headset but especially the lack of PT support and AV1 hardware decoding make it far from perfect for porn.

I'm a bit surprised though that @Stirling seems to have it operational? Are you sure you're talking about the same thing as everybody else? So enable the 'force quit' screen by pressing both buttons, does that enable passthrough mode on your official 2.6? while in VR mode watching SLR on the website? I almost can't believe that, since on the official 2.6.0.1 they changed it and the background stays black when enabling that force quit screen.

harigeharry I haven’t been on this forum for a couple of weeks but thought I would check in today to see if there was any sort of workaround for VisionOS 26. I dodged a bullet because I am on 2.6 (not 2.6.0.1, just 2.6). I stopped there and the passthrough workaround is still working fine. I just watched one this morning.

Doesn't seem like many folks know about the 4XVr Player in the App Store for Vision Pro that supports passthrough via Chroma or alpha masks. It works pretty well on lower bitrate H.265 videos. Higher bitrate and AV1 seem to make it stutter/choke a bit, but it definitely works. No interest or relation to the developer, just found it via Reddit a couple weeks ago. bigboppa did you get this working? I just tried, I can see that it works with a 2D video, it projects the video on a passthrough screen (so I can my room around the video) but in 3d mode It doesnt seem to work, but maybe I'm missing something?

bigboppa. Thanks so much for this. This is great, big improvement on the previous “force quit” workaround (which was really good for its time). This takes all the streaming variability out (from the SLR site, other areas of the Internet, or wherever) and it’s just so much more responsive. I was also down to a handful of Passthrough videos that I wanted to see but hadn’t seen, and this opens up lots of new content. I can also upgrade to Vision OS 26 now - was not going to do that and lose Passthrough. Thanks again.

harigeharry Actually it works!!! Haha not sure why, I took my headset off, put it back on an it worked! haha this is pretty damn incredible. It's not perfect indeed, you see some masking errors, but it's pretty damn nice.

Immediately bought the app, damn this is incredible that they got this working! Like said the only disadvantage over the workaround (that doesnt work anymore on OS2.6) is that you see some slight green tinting around the model. Nowhere as bad as the work around via SteamVR, but still, it's noticeable. But other than that this is pretty damn good.

Big props @bigboppa for the tip! I'll most likely will still get the Samsung Moohan headset, if only it were for the AV1 support, but still, I love supporting developers who invent awesome things like this, they succeeded where all the competition failed or didnt care.

Actually there's an option to 'recalculate from current frame', I just tried it and the green tinting disappeared, everything looked 100% perfect after that!! Damn these guys are incredible, never thought somebody would get PT working THIS good on the AVP.

harigeharry I was wrong about this option BTW, the right option to select is 'alpha passthrough', after that it looks perfect.

Also the AV1 videos will play without stuttering but they'll play too slowly (because of the lacking hardware decoder). There's an option to speed up the video and if you speed it up 25% it actually looks quite acceptable.

So this is incredible. PT looks better now than ever since you can now finally play downloaded vids, which have better quality than the streamed ones. The only big problem I'm still facing of course is that AV1 is not supported by the AVP so the HBR files that SLR lately releases play super slow. So that's still reason enough to upgrade to the Project Moohan headset that's supposed to release tomorrow. But other than that, damn this is something!! Almost can't believe these guys succeeded getting it to work this perfectly.

AVP refresh with M5 will be available beginning Wednesday, but still can't find AV1 on the list of supported formats.

I'm jumping ship though towards Samsung. The AVP is a nice device but I simply can't stand how Apple closes stuff up for the user. It's mind boggling how apple decides what's best for its users.

For Macs and iPads, Apple states "AV1 decode" explicitly, but not for AVP. Doesn't mean AVP M5 doesn't have it but there's no official confirmation yet.

SchnuppiLilac Haha definitely will. One thing I love about the AVP is the wide horizontal FoV, if you mod the headset a bit, I get to 120 horizontal which is quite good. I don't think there's any info on the Samsung FoV yet, hopefully tomorrow. But other than that it looks like an amazing headset, at least on paper.
