Hairsational Yeah let's hope they can get it going. The AVP is just such a good headset, it really needs DeoVR 🙂

Hi fellow AVP users!!

I haven't been following the progress (or lack of progress) here in a while. I've really just been so busy fapping with my AVP. Currently I still think Moon Player is the best player. FYI devs, personally, I will never be interested in using Safari for streaming anything. I think the efforts to make the so-called hub work are misguided. I have a massive NAS server with a good (but nothing spectacular) home network, and I download the "original" highest bit rate version of each SLR video to my NAS server. I can then stream these to the AVP from the NAS using the SMB protocol.

With Moon Player, you need to first use the built-in Files app to establish a connection to your server. The URL is like this

smb://<my-server-ip>/

where <my-server-ip> is the internal IP address of your NAS server. You can also use the short computer network name if you append ".local" to the network name. The IP address is typically more reliable. Once the Files app has the connection, you can then open Moon Player and locate the network share in the expected location in the left hand panel.

A note about the server connections created in the Files app on the AVP. I'm seeing a bug where after any VisionOS update, my connections stop working. I've been able to get them working again without too much hassle just by restarting the AVP.

Okay, so recently the Play'a app got a working version for AVP (it's a free install). It's not great, and I'm still using the Moon Player. There's many flaws that will have to be fixed for me to use Play'a over the solution described above. For one thing, the vrbangers.com site address is blocked in the Play'a app, ikr? But vrconk.com and other swearl sites that use Play'a are working, sort of. You cannot currently stream 8K without constant buffering. It seems to me that the Play'a devs have ported their home rolled net code and it buffers constantly.

Play'a even buffers if you are streaming a file from your local NAS server. Since I have Moon Player, I know that streaming from my NAS should work fine. It's definitely a defect in the Play'a app. The best you can do right now with Play'a is play back files that you've copied or downloaded to the AVP. Even in this respect, I prefer the Moon Player. The Play'a app can only access it's own internal app folder, whereas the Moon Player can access the common Downloads folder. Thus, in order to play back a file I've copied to the AVP myself, I have to copy the files into the special Play'a app folder. It's not the end of the world, but it's another thing you have to know and understand about Play'a.

TLDR; fuck all this shit, download the big-ass "original" files, and fap yourself silly using Moon Player.

GfLm unfortunately downloads are less of an option every day as sites like slr restrict them

    Also moon can’t do interactive.
I’m hoping heresphere makes a Vision Pro version

GfLm Just curious: Now that that you have found a working solution for yourself, does VR porn look better on AVP compared to whatever headset you were using before? And if so, how much better?

    • GfLm replied to this.

Was literally gonna ask the same thing @SchnuppiLilac 😆

Not launched in the UK yet but it's on the list, hopefully before the end of 2024

If the screen is a lot better than Pico 4 or similar then i'll get one even if only for porn

It's definitely quite a bit better than anything else out there. HOWEVER the biggest downside right now is that there's no passthrough mode. I really love PT on my Quest 3. So I still use both for porn. So I guess until there's a PT mode player out there on the AVP, I guess you're still fine with the Quest 3. But if the first apps appear with PT mode, then the AVP easily would win.

SchnuppiLilac Hmm good thinking, just tried it but unfortunately didn't work neither. When I enable the passthrough mode and use 'from video' then it just makes everything black except for the model. It doesnt mix in reality, like it does when you do the same on the quest 3 ...

No, nobody has PT because it isn't possible. Apple in their infinite wisdom made an MR platform and did not give developers any access to the camera feed. I don't mean "by default" I mean there is no way to get it, the user can not enable any permission to allow an app to access the camera feed. Thus it is IMPOSSIBLE right now to make any app that uses the camera image, such as a passthrough video player or anything else.

The only possible way this could work is if you can make the video itself simply have transparent parts and let the platform do the rest but I don't think that is doable either.

In the larger picture, as a developer that had a lot of ideas I wanted to try with this thing outside of porn, I REALLY hope Apple realizes how stupid this is. I know they did it for privacy but at least let the user choose to make that available to an app with permissions if they want to.

Agathorn But that can't be true. Tons of apps use MR with camera feed, like the game fruit ninja where fruit and ninjas appear in your own living room.

harigeharry They appear in the room sure but the app itself never sees the camera image. All they get is the structure of the room, which is essentially planes that show where walls, floors, and objects are. But they never see the image. that is all handled by the platform for them.

I understood on AVP the concept is that an app can add something to (augment) the camera feed but cannot add the camera feed to whatever is happening within the app and that's why the background in Play'a remains black in PT mode.

SchnuppiLilac Exactly. The only way it MIGHT currently work would be if you could play a video that had transparency on it, but to do that you would ALSO have to not be a full screen app like they currently do. It would need to be a MR app like how Apple handles the spatial photos/videos or panoramic photos where they don't fill the view but are overlaid on top. That might work but I don't know if there is any video format Apple supports that has transparency information in it, and I have to assume that the devs already tried this since it's the most logical work around.

Wow I hope you guys are not right 🙂 Because it would really s*ck big time (not in a good way) if we'd never get PT on the AVP!! It's just such an awesome device and then they limit it like this?? Damn

harigeharry The hope is Apple sees how stupid this is (I had plans for a bunch of different legit apps that needed the camera image) and changes it in a future OS version with pressure from devs.

The flip side though is I CAN see their point of view. The thought that some app might be secretly recording everything the cameras see and whisking that off to some server is certainly a concern. I mean do we really know what anyone with the image on Quest 3 is doing with it? For all we know Facebook is building a library of blackmail material as we speak 🙂

So there are valid privacy concerns. We just need to figure out the middle ground and allow users some choice in what they allow on a per application basis.

Honestly so tired of the lack of updates on the new app.

We have an update: the team seems to have figured out the colour profile to make the image less washed out, we will provide an update soon with this fix. Stay tuned!

I upgraded from a quest pro. The image quality of the AVP is amazing, fov could be improved a little sure, but I’ve never gone back to the old headset. One of the most remarkable differences with the AVP is how good older 6k content looks. There’s not as drastic a drop off in picture clarity on the AVP, just because the resolution is a little lower. And 8k content brings the performers to life. You’ll appreciate the tiny reflections in a teardrop staining the model’s face after she chokes herself swallowing porn cock.

GfLm About the FoV, did you try this: remove the lightseal (the hard material) and then only use that soft rubberish part, between your face and the AVP. Adjust it so it stays in place. Then redo the eye setup. Light will leak in a bit, and you will get a warning about the AVP being too close to your eyes, just ignore it. It's WAY better like that!! And the FoV will be the same as you had before on your Quest!

And yeah the AVP image quality is just mind blowing.

Agathorn Seems that unfortunately you were totally right. DeoVR said the same thing on their blog, they made some comments regarding passthrough:

Viewing passthrough content from DeoVR on the Vision Pro is not possible yet. It simply shows a black background, and the video quality can't be changed from the default of 1920p. This is because Apple does not give access to AR. It can not be enabled, even in the settings. However, as soon as they enable it in an update of the Vision Pro OS, it will be enabled automatically for all DeoVR users - there will be no need to release an update.
