Hi fellow AVP users!!
I haven't been following the progress (or lack of progress) here in a while. I've really just been so busy fapping with my AVP. Currently I still think Moon Player is the best player. FYI devs, personally, I will never be interested in using Safari for streaming anything. I think the efforts to make the so-called hub work are misguided. I have a massive NAS server with a good (but nothing spectacular) home network, and I download the "original" highest bit rate version of each SLR video to my NAS server. I can then stream these to the AVP from the NAS using the SMB protocol.
With Moon Player, you need to first use the built-in Files app to establish a connection to your server. The URL is like this
where <my-server-ip> is the internal IP address of your NAS server. You can also use the short computer network name if you append ".local" to the network name. The IP address is typically more reliable. Once the Files app has the connection, you can then open Moon Player and locate the network share in the expected location in the left hand panel.
A note about the server connections created in the Files app on the AVP. I'm seeing a bug where after any VisionOS update, my connections stop working. I've been able to get them working again without too much hassle just by restarting the AVP.
Okay, so recently the Play'a app got a working version for AVP (it's a free install). It's not great, and I'm still using the Moon Player. There's many flaws that will have to be fixed for me to use Play'a over the solution described above. For one thing, the vrbangers.com site address is blocked in the Play'a app, ikr? But vrconk.com and other swearl sites that use Play'a are working, sort of. You cannot currently stream 8K without constant buffering. It seems to me that the Play'a devs have ported their home rolled net code and it buffers constantly.
Play'a even buffers if you are streaming a file from your local NAS server. Since I have Moon Player, I know that streaming from my NAS should work fine. It's definitely a defect in the Play'a app. The best you can do right now with Play'a is play back files that you've copied or downloaded to the AVP. Even in this respect, I prefer the Moon Player. The Play'a app can only access it's own internal app folder, whereas the Moon Player can access the common Downloads folder. Thus, in order to play back a file I've copied to the AVP myself, I have to copy the files into the special Play'a app folder. It's not the end of the world, but it's another thing you have to know and understand about Play'a.
TLDR; fuck all this shit, download the big-ass "original" files, and fap yourself silly using Moon Player.
