SchnuppiLilac Ahhh ok, thank you for sharing! Makes perfect sense, at this point the general release might only be a few days away anyways but I will still test this out since it should also support alpha which will be nice on DLNA
Is Quest 3 actually better?
czperv123 I got a pico 4 but I'm still upgrading, in pico 4 my real environment looks a lil bigger then normal, q3 looks accurate, also idk if its my pico 4 but maybe it never got that pass through upgrade cuz it looks grainy, like my white walls look gray and from what I'm seeing q3 pass through looks better then my pico 4.
Soon as I can I'm upgrading to the q3
metichemsi SchnuppiLilac better question yet, what the hell is DeoVR RC???
metichemsi - I always liked to think 'RC' stood for 'Realcumber'
Here are my personal opinions on the biggest improvements on quest 3 after some good testing:
- great FOV (no longer feels 'too small' - feels great and Im coming from Pimax)
- huge sweet spot (most headsets you need to keep shifting around because it gets blurry quick when you leave the small sweet spot center)
- easy quick boundary setup anywhere just by looking around your environment (no need to define borders manually any longer)
- colour passthrough (amazing for immersion and you can leave this headset on while doing almost anything, even reading your phone/cpu at a minimum resolution - could be definitely be higher res, but the real world feel is there)

1qisawesome better with updates
VirtualDesktop is a mandatory purchase. Recent update have enhanced the device. It's now 'mostly stable'.
Quest 4 requires OLEDs and a glare coating.

FOV is definitely slightly improved with standard Quest 3 face mask which does improve things. But if you remove the black face mask and figure out a way to get it to sit comfortably on your head (I MacGuyver'ed mine with padding from around the house and some velcro) it actually improves the FOV even more which makes an even bigger difference, plus it gets rid of some of the curtain effect. Part of my MacGuyver was to velcro flaps over the sides to block out light, but one cool thing about that from an idea I saw from someone else on Reddit is in color passthrough, removing the flaps and letting the light in on the sides make it almost seem like you're wearing big glasses so you actually see more of your surroundings making it appear a little more realistic. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of aftermarket headstraps for Q3 yet but until then will use the MacGuyver method. I've heard the Bobovr M3 does the same thing with FOV and is a comfortable headstrap but is currently unavailable. If they had designed the way it sets on your head and face differently I think this would have been a lot better received.
I got mines!
Guess I'll give my run down.
The psss through looks grainy like the Pico 4, but it works better in low light and colored light, example
Im able to have a red light or blue light and mix the image in with the color light using image settings.
Also if i just have my desktop on with no light, if you turn contrast all the way to the left 0, and turn brightness down the image blends in good like you in the dark having 4am morning sex
With Pico 4 I couldn't do that cuz in low low light it way freaking grainy and it would have red grain spots.
Those are big pluses for me with the q3, but the grain man I thought it would look better then the Pico 4, it about the same but with the quest 3 looking threw the pt the actual environment looks normal size, in Pico it looked Lil bigger then life like size
And this shit does suck at charging while using it, it freaking drains while plugged in and i was watching videos.
Fov is noticeably bigger then q2, bigger then Pico 4? Nah.
I need the facegaurd out to max cuz up close the frames looks web-ish and it's not a circle. Pulling it out makes it a perfect circle for me.
Picture wise, it looks way better then q2, no lens rings, no blurry Ness due to sweet spot, hardly any glare that I've noticed, in Pico 4 glare was noticeable right off bat.
Facegaurd feels better then the default q2 facegaurd but after a while I feel scratchyness on my skin from the fabric cuz it got them Lil grooves in it cuz it's mesh fabric, I bought these face cushions on Amazon it came two different fabrics one was mesh and it did the same, it's comfortable but after a while I felt that scratchyness from the fabric, the other face cushion was lycra fabric and it's smooth on the face. Pretty much q3 face foam feels is like Pico 4's. I had to replace that. but the q3 sits better on the face then Pico 4. Also feels better waring then the q2
The system runs faster, you can tell
Upgrade from a q2? Sure
Upgrade from a Pico 4? If just for the pass threw to work better in dim light And you want the actual size of the real environment looking threw pt? Yeah
But just for better quality video, its not like a must have right away, you fine with the q2 or Pico 4.
Also I feel like I can see the edges of the camera looking threw pass through, I gave some details on this in the "your pass through headquarters" discussion.
But I'll get back to ya in a week or a few. After living with this thang longer then a day.
Vrsumo2017 And this shit does suck at charging while using it, it freaking drains while plugged in and i was watching videos.
As long as you use the original power block and a full speed cable it will maintain the battery power. I bought some of the magnetic charging leads from Magnilink to save constantly plugging/unplugging. Theyβre pretty sweet .
Jeff777LUFC I'll try that, thanks
Short answer...
YES!
Sold Pico 4 and got my Quest 3 this week. Will probably send it back to Amazon because one of the controllers is messed up (squeaky and mushy buttons). Honestly, I was just curious about Q3 and I didn't see a reason to hold onto the Pico 4 for much longer, hoping Pico 5 is released next year.
PQ, SDE, sweet spot, system performance (8K playback, scrubbing speed), FOV ... all this seems about the same.
Pico 4: much better comfort with the stock accessories and for me also better passthrough (unreadable phone and warping on Q3 PT)
Quest 3: much better app store - all essential apps and for those who care - much better game selection, including mixed reality. Also wireless PCVR works great even without Virtual Desktop.

czperv123 for me also better passthrough
Really?, see I think my pico never got that pass through update cuz mine to grainy especially in the low light. also my real environment looks slightly bigger then normal, in q3 the pt is still grainy but looks better and works way better then the pico 4, it works better in low light, and in low light if turn your contrast down alot and turn the brightness down you can mess with it to match your dim room, also im able to use colored light and match the image to the color. so for me q3 pt is way better. But I still use my pico 4 tho, i love that thang
My two cents. If you get a defective Q3 then it's worse than any Q2. The first Q3 I returned had so many problems it was practically a scam. If you get a Q3 without problems it's a big step up from a Q2 without problems. Like going from Google Cardboard to Q2 almost. I don't use passthrough except when leaving boundary so I can't comment on how good it is. Make sure to check the IPD setting when you turn it back on because it's easy to accidentally roll it to a different setting if you store the Q3 facing forward.

- VirtualDesktop is a mandatory purchase, which Brad onwed
- Brad has upgraded his strap
- Brad lives in Florida, where there's lots of light, so passthrough looks better
- There are reflections on some devices, so it's hit or miss if you get a good one.

Nevertheless, I would recommend the device to friends. I wouldn't have recommended Quest 2. Depending on your Android phone, you could have a better experience with GearVR or even Cardboard. Quest 3 is a useable and useful device, not a gaming PC accessory like its predecessor...

Unless you live near the earth's poles there is lots of light everywhere

That should be a feature in DeoVR! "Low light PT" - adjusting the video to be grainy and darker to match the environment. Not joking... could really help with immersion which for me doesn't work at all due to the difference in video vs. real environment visuals.
I just expected better camera quality from Q3 since it was released a year later after Pico 4. That's why I'm excited about the upcoming Pico 5 headsets, hoping they'll set a new standard for PT again.
Man, does yall face guard on quest 3 keep coming off by the nose curve? Seems like everyday i have push it in.
Also since there a Lil button by the battery cover it kinda feels flimsy sometimes.
This all normal for yall too?
And my pass through works good, better then the pico but I be seeing videos where people's pass through looks better then mine in low light.
It cuz we really can't see that grain in the videos?
Smh
I'm cool with the q3 I like it, but I be thinking about these issues with it. Smh
After using Quest 2 for I think almost 2 years, and now having used Quest 3 for about a couple weeks now, I really can't tell much of a difference, if any. I download to PC and stream over wifi with Skybox, same as I did on Q2. I also don't really care for passthrough, doesn't feel more immersive to me, just less. While I am not going to return it, I would have preferred not spending $500 on it. I do regret it a little bit. I'd personally tell anyone thinking of getting Q3 that currently has a Q2 to just not bother. I'll probably feel different once I start playing VR games again though.
