[deleted] I hate the SDE with GearVR and the FOV is also very small.
Using it with S10.
Is Quest 3 actually better?
Bit of a unique situation on my side, I had every oculus/quest headset up until the quest 1, then jumped on to the pimax 5k+ during the kickstarter back in the day. Have been using that headset since then and never tried any other modern headset release since then. Hate how buggy pimax can be but the resolution and FOV were more than enough for me. Since then I have been itching to try passthrough but only if the headset had a decent dual color camera system and finally decided to stop waiting for the next great 1000+ headset and get the quest 3. I am actually quite impressed, it actually looks more sharp than my pimax 5k headset, yes the FOV is smaller but I actually dont mind that at all even having been spoiled with a huge FOV all these years. The optics are super clear on the quest 3, the portability is awesome and the color passthrough is actually pretty impressive as long as your surroundings are well lit and the PT porn is absolutely incredible with this thing. Well worth the upgrade. I also love that I can still use oculus link and tether it to my PC if I want. The only thing I have left to figure out or setup is how to stream my downloaded media to my headset these days, so if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

Depends on the player I am using. With HS, I am using SMB shares. For DeoVR, I bought a DLNA server app. With Skybox, I prefer Airscreen which requires installing an additional Skybox client app.
SchnuppiLilac Thank you, do any of those support passthrough? So far I have only used the airlink option and it works good but it does not support PT. Also, I might be thinking of some old ass posts but I thought DLNA was no longer going to be supported on DeoVR?

I don't think it's worth upgrading from the Pico 4, to be honest. The Quest 3 does look sharper, and the passthrough, in my opinion, is not that much better; it's still grainy, but you can see the real world true to size, unlike the Pico 4. I'm dealing with two problems with the Quest 3: the binocular overlap and the headphone audio being really low, and when it comes to porn, you know it's a big deal!
metichemsi DeoVR supports DLNA but nothing else (like SMB). DeoVR is the only player that supports alpha PT and this, at least currently, does not work over DLNA. So there is no wireless streaming option for downloaded alpha PT videos at all. What will work with DeoVR and DLNA though is the chromakey PT.
metichemsi Seems like a lot of people make the mistake of only thinking about the hardware when buying and not giving any consideration to the software. There is zero possibility that some small Chinese company will be able to compete with the likes of Meta or Apple when it comes to the software.
SchnuppiLilac SMB
I hope deovr supports smb soon, I could never get my deo dlna to work right.
Vrsumo2017 whenever they get a Unity team right and it gets further down to-do list.

I'm very pleased with it so far. I've played a couple of enhanced games including Red Matter 2 and the improvement over the Quest 2 is significant. I'm keeping my PSVR2 for No Man's Sky and Gran Turismo 7 and the forlorn hope that Sony will release some more big titles one day but I expect to use the Quest 3 a lot more. I've watched a few adult videos on it and it handles 5K very nicely. Perhaps it's worth adding a 5K Quest 3 option to the video downloads?
I haven't noticed any screen door effect. Then again I never saw the mura on PSVR2. My eyes might not be the sharpest! My biggest complaint is the strap is awful. If you buy a Quest 3, factor in buying an elite strap or an alternative. You won't want to use the strap provided. Also buy the 512GB version. 128GB won't be sufficient for serious users. And battery life is about 2 hours no matter what I'm doing on it.

Vrsumo2017 What did you try so far to make DLNA work? My internet router has a built-in DLNA server which seems to be pretty decent but since it can only handle NTFS I am not using it. The software that I am using now was easy to set up and works fine with DeoVR (except that I usually have to restart it when I am using it every once in a while).
SchnuppiLilac just like a file sharing folder on my computer, I'd put sum videos in there but only a few would show, so say I put 20 videos maybe like 5 would only show sometimes not even show up at all, so I just gave up on it, plus I didn't like moving my files around
With skyboxvr it's simple, I just log into my computer and go to my folders where all my files at.
Hope deo gets that soon tho. I saw they were going to in some thread they mentioned it.

metichemsi For file streaming through wi-fi I've used Plex for years. Plex is a free DNLA app that allows you to list your video file folders as you wish. When set up just go to DEO on your headset and open local files, click on DNLA and plex will show up on your headset with all your sorted files ready to stream from your desktop computer to your headset. A small learning curve to set up but worth it once finished.
SchnuppiLilac Got it, makes sense, well i'll keep using airlink until there is a wireless method that supports all PT on the headset. I'm sure in time it will be widely supported.
nfrosty53 Apologies, I should have also included that I was hoping for full PT support. I think other members have stated that nothing wireless right now supports full PT at the moment. For now Airlink seems to be working just fine as well. I have a decent mesh network at home and I have had zero issues streaming full 8K scenes with airlink. Once a wireless process fully supports PT I will follow suit.
Vrsumo2017 I'm using Plex Media Server as my DLNA. It's free and it does work on DEOVR. I'm also able to use it with the PT feature.
milky97 I'm also able to use it with the PT feature
Alpha PT? How do you make it work with Plex?
plantninja Quest 3 passthrough is a game changer. I haven’t gasped at a VR spectacle like this in years and I owned the original development kit RIFT. If you are using for SLR it’s a no contest purchase!
Going back and forth between my quest 2 and 3 in 8k videos there is a big difference in fov especially vertically. Also edge to edge clarity is much improved. PT porn is now on another level and the color passthrough is really as many have said a game changer.

My review of Quest 3 software. It's exactly like Quest 2, with none of the bugs fixed.
