I'd imagine SLR have bought themselves at least 1 to get things rolling

If they sold it in my country i'd just expense it through the company to have a play around with and checkout how good the screens are for 2D movies / VR porn

Tried hub. It asks to track your face and hands but there's no way to click with your hands.

ikey86 yeah, having this issue too, lol. What the hell?

The reviews I looked at said it was uncomfortable. Instant fail on that reason alone, if true. It's certain heavy, with no internal battery, and smaller FOV than Quest 3. Given the top resolution of any VR studio is 8k, which I don't think even pushes the Q3 to the max in terms of viewable pixels, I don't understand why anyone would choose the AVP over Quest 3 for porn. As for productivity - too heavy and uncomfortable (apparently) in this first prototype product.

Honestly, you can get the fit super comfortable if the person at the Apple store you have is very chill with you trying out 10+ fits (I did 9 fits). But they were so slammed that they included the wrong sized head-straps, so I ended up being super uncomfortable when I set it up at home.

I don't think it's heavy, but you will feel it if you have it on for more than 1 hour. I don't get any wobbliness from the headset, which I would get on my Quest 3.

The FOV is really god awful on it, to the point that I put on my Quest 3 after the AVP and it was just miles ahead for comfort. The green edging reminds me of the Samsung Gear VR or wearing glasses.

And the app offerings Day 1 just aren't there.

The only good thing about this headset is Cinema (for Apple TV only), Environments, and eye tracking which is gobsmackingly good but I would much prefer if they showed a clean line to where my eyes were pointing like the Quest controller does.

The demo is really magical in the store when you have your mind blown by the eye tracking, but remember they don't show you the keyboard or the awful web browsing experiences for a reason.

It's ok, I don't think there's much of a difference that I can tell from Quest 3 to AVP.

jommy voila 🙂 the thing is being pushed for work productivity...so everyone that has a business can get their little 50 percent off coupon going as they write this thing off like a computer

ikey86 so did it play vr 180?
On youtube this guy try play vr video or 360 and only thing he could do was move the screen in 2d frame, it never opened up in vr mode.

I'm also wondering how it would look in vr mode cuase he used moon vr and played a vr video and it was cool he still had his arms in front of the vr image but then i thought what about laying down will your whole body be there blocking image? 🤔

Idk man, this guy say he can't get no vr 180 vids to play, the screen goes black and just plays audio, it play apple produced vr videos but not third party apps. Hopefully this not true cuz that would suck ass.

@Kieshi surprised there does not seem to be any discussion in the DEOVR forum re: getting it to work with Vision Pro. Any indication people are thinking about how to get it working?

Garyindiana2 Trying to make apps for Apple is very difficult compared to making apps for Android. I don't know if SLR will push to make an apple version or not but I would understand why if they don't.

Doesn't it come with something like Safari browser to just view the SLR website directly? That seems like it should work.

So Apple has spent years developing a VR headset and it launches with absolutely no way to play VR videos? Not a promising outlook for their ecosystem intentions for this thing.

Yeah it's this and it completely breaks eyetracking. So enjoy a 3-D video stuck in a browser window and video controls you can't even use because they're too tiny.

I've never had so much trouble closing tabs on a browser before. It's so infuriating.

                Vrsumo2017

would only get it at a place like best buy...just in case it was shit.

luckily didn't wait for it. and they are pushing q3 updates...so things are going to get better for everyone with these headsets.

                ikey86 damn 🤦‍♂️

Aye I heard the pass through not even much of a leap better then the quest 3? Or is way better, is it film some spatial pov videos and make content better?

                  Vrsumo2017
PT is not much better. I put on my Quest after using the AVP and I can barely tell the difference for PT. The one notable difference for me was FOV, Quest 3 is superior in that respect.

There are some good things, like Cinema mode for 2-D videos, but that's only available for Apple TV (not even on Disney+, I'm very shocked). If they can get that for 2-D porn, it would be great, but for now it's impossible to get good porn to play bc the controls on the modern web browsers are too tiny for your eyes to track and hands to click with.

Also I suspect DeoVR will take a while to develop an app for this headset. Traditional iPad OS stuff just doesn't work well with this OS. Tim Cook pretty much said a million apps are on the OS, but they just aren't usable.

I am NOT an Apple fanboy. Ask me about Apple networking. Go ahead. (It sucks). My house has a single mode fiber optic network with a mellanox 40gbe switch at its core. I’ve been building PCs for 22 years.

I’m a photographer and videographer. I dabble in music creation and audio editing. I love video games. I’ve been using VR since the oculus development kit when we needed outside in tracking cameras and the exact brand of usb extension cable mattered. I worked in game development. I did VR development.

I’ve had a bunch of sets over the years THE most insane experience was a game called elite dangerous which is a space flight and exploration game on PC running through the Valve Index. The game itself isn’t great but it was one of those holy fuck I’m in space in the future oh my god kinda things. The hours I spent in that game just being in space flying a starship I will never forget.

I own a quest pro. I gave a go at using it for more than just very limited experiences like porn or Netflix. I tried to use it as a screen for my pc, for exercise, for gaming. If you don’t own one it has a lot of usability problems. Getting up and leaving the room can cause it to subtly forget your positioning so the room isn’t quite aligned anymore. Passthough isn’t great. It misaligns color closeup. Think of your hand in black and white and a flesh colored ghost. Now offset that ghost by a half inch to the right or left. It’s still better than the quest 2. Laying down it’s uncomfortable though. Also the controllers are worse than the quest 2.

My refrain through the years has been I love VR but it’s not ready yet.

I bought the vision pro yesterday and that refrain changed. I may have built my last computer. For those of you old enough to remember the best way I can describe this is that it feels like the difference between a good pocket pc like the Toshiba e805 and the original iPhone. That is to say they are superficially similar but the reality is that they aren’t close.

Tracking is seamless even in pitch black. I can read my phone through the external camera. Yeah I can text using the vision pro itself but what I mean is that I can sit down and read my actual phone with the headset on. It’s like looking through slightly foggy ski goggles without the tint. Tracking is unbelievably good. It doesn’t seem to forget where things are. I can pull up a window and leave the house at night with the headset on and come back later and that window will still be there. It’s comfortable in a way the quest 2 and especially the pro weren’t.

It’s usable for real work. My friend is testing his as an aid to writing as we speak because he can keep his research up on screens alllllllll around him as he types which should make his work easier and allow him to take his whole workspace with him when he travels.

For myself I’m not sure I’m ready to give up my art monitor for editing but it’s good enough that I’m going to see how close it is using pass through from a MacBook. I need to replace my old razer laptop next week to test it.

I’m convinced it needed to cost this much. They had to prove the concept could work for real and not just as a technology demonstrator. I don’t know if they could have done it for less.

This generation is expensive, this generation is short on software, and this generation just showed everyone else how it is done. I truly think this is the future of nearly all computing for end users. I don’t say that lightly. I’m going to miss building computers. it’s been such a big part of my life. I remember backpacking through the desolation wilderness with the boy scouts when I was 13 with a stack of magazines planning my first build alone because nobody I knew had the skills to help me and I did it myself I created a skill entirely mine that no teacher or parent gave me. It is mine. it’s that foundational to me. but I will gladly never do it again if I can have the future Apple just showed us.

I look forward to slr making it onto the vision pro. I’m willing to wait.

                      ikey86

That sounds terrible, how could apple mess up this so badly? Esepcially at this price point. Kind of shocked that it’s not superior to Quest 3, for that price it should be significant

Garyindiana2 hi, yes, we are planning to make the app available on AVP, but it takes some time to get everything in place, so we will get the news out, when we have an update
