whats the big deal with passthrough anyway, i dont get it.. its just an AR projection into your room right? so you have the performers "in your room" instead of the normal video surroundings? i cant imagine that being very immersive or interesting, sounds like a gimmick to me...

Right now it is more or less a gimmick and really doesn't look that great. BUT, you can see the potential. Seeing your own room and everything...even in black and white, with the chick there when it works properly, makes it much more realistic and immersive. With color passthrough and when they actually make it way easier to adjust to perfection, it could really take it to a whole other level. Think of it like 56k Modems, and thinking about how awesome the internet is going to be when it gets a lot faster and smoother. That's what this is.

Man I'm usually just turning on passthrough during cg rcg, if it looks good I just leave it, im kinda just use to having it as an option cuz I use my skyboxvr to stream off my computer and when i find some good cg rcg im thinking about the passthrough. Sadly skyboxvr is still in their stone age era 😢...lol joke

But yeah is great to have as an option

If you had clear and colour passthrough, I could see the attraction but, even then it’s still pretty much restricted to cg positions where you can lay still. Once you start tilting the camera, it doesn’t work as it feels like your room is spinning around you. I really don’t want to go back to super restrictive VR where you never move and the girl just rides you for the whole scene just to fit in with passthrough. Either that or people have to start physically acting out the scenes (ie standing up when the guy is standing, sitting when he’s sitting etc.) and most people don’t want to do that.

Like others have said, I also don’t have a spare £1,500 laying around to get the Pro. The whole thing about Quest 2 was that it finally made VR affordable to the masses. The masses don’t buy £1,500 headsets so it’s probably not the best idea to target a ton of content to that market. Not that I’m saying you are.

I disagree,I've ran threw many scenes, vr studios and I found many that worked with all positions, ive seen sum the edge of the bed doggystyle, literally if stand at the edge ur bed the model looks like she on ur bed, kneeling doggy works too

It works with positions.

Vrsumo2017 that’s kind of what I was saying that you need to physically act out the scene for passthrough to be effective even if you have decent colour passthrough on your headset. You have to stand up for doggy and missionary, then lay down for cg/rcg, then sit up for seated cg/rcg. Most VR porn watchers don’t generally do that, they tend to just adjust the camera position rather than their own position. Once you do that in passthrough, it all goes wrong as your fixed bedroom passthrough image doesn’t tilt when you tilt the camera.

Vrsumo2017 definitely laying/sitting down is going to be the position it works best as that’s how most people watch VR. My concern is that VR goes backwards and we go back to just getting those fixed cowgirl positions in scenes as that’s what works best for passthrough.

Hopefully I’m wrong and hopefully SLR don’t go all in on this yet anyway until the technology catches up to really make this work. At the moment it’s just the odd scene so not a major issue.

I don't think that'll be the case. They'll come up with an algorithmn that will map your room out and fit it specifically to the VR scene you are watching , and automatically re-scale it and adjust everything so that it looks real in your environment. That's probably still some years away, but that's where it could go.

I also think there will always be standard non-passthrough VR content always, as some people like or prefer that. Passthrough will be a category, not the standard I don't believe. You'll have studios putting out 1 normal VR and 1 PT per week.

My biggest problem with the Passthrough right now is just that it doesn't work on 98% of the videos, or it takes forever to get it to look right and find the right positioning where the scale matches. It's fun to mess with but it gets insanely frustrating after 10-15 min when nothing works.
