  • Problems with "30 video downloads in 144 hours" :(

I fully expect this thread to continue on since there's a lot of strong opinions, but I'll mention it since it's been a little while: SLR is a subscription service. If you feel like it's a fair shake for the price, then great! You can subscribe and enjoy.

If you feel like it's not worth the price, then you can choose to not subscribe and find another site/service that is more to your personal liking.

But since I see a few mentions of piracy - if you don't want to subscribe to SLR then at least subscribe to the individual studios. No one who is pirating content should think they're Robin Hood in this scenario.

here and at a few of the individual studios too
    I like it here. I’ll stay 😉🍕

justsomedude101 At the moment SLR is still worth if for me for the smaller studios and for studios that have even worse download policies. I'm talking about SinsVR - those jokers want $20 to allow 1440p streaming and 5 downloads per month.

I also have lifetime subs to 7 sites - I doubt the pirates will bother discussing here in this thread - they don't have to care about those topics. That's the sad reality.

someoneX I remember the owner talking in the comments back during Sins 1.0 — they were barely breaking even then. He left for awhile, and returned with 2.0 and I subbed immediately because I loved the 1.0 content and wanted to support him. He took his themes into areas that are not for me so I canceled. If I could venture a best guess, he’s still moving the levers trying to figure out how to be profitable. It just isn’t easy to do this well.

argyle43 I like their content, but can't support them, because 5 download/month would "never" allow me to download every video I want. Maybe they are gone again before I can even get half of the videos at that rate.

someoneX I very nearly rejoined when I saw this scene in SLR upcoming and wanted to see if it had already dropped on main site…

and then I saw that this delicious slice of double creamy pie had just dropped and I was frothing at the mouth to join…

but saw the same lousy pricing for squat, and the higher tier made no mention of downloads whatsoever, but did offer full res streaming so my dick was saying do it, do it… it’s Alissa Foxy ffs!! But I could see no way to stream the trailer in VR through DEO so eventually I gave up. The guy is still fumbling in the dark trying to shoot great porn and run a working business. The business end is still a mess.

So ya, I’ll have to wait to see if those goodies ever find their way here. The threesome is gone from upcoming scenes now 😕

What I find funny is that there is even a thread about this. SLR is in a UNIQUE position to be THE THING. Right now they kind of are…besides @doublevr cutting the legs out from under themselves in every possible social media situation, in every possible interaction with the public. Frankly @Rakly3 is working towards that model lately.

Do you want to see a real open discussion? Go visit POVR’s forums. They talk about SLR and and everyone else and there is open discussion. Not an owner posting pie charts telling us all how we use/download things and therefore limiting allowed downloads, and then trying to gaslight everybody into agreeing with him.

          Just my opinion.

          8 days later

This limit is absolutely brutal. It is so frustrating to hit the limit, then the next day a video comes out I want to see, but I have to wait 6 days before I can download it. Streaming is cool and all, but my internet is too slow, so I like to "download the shit of SLR" so I can actually enjoy the videos. I keep the ones I like and delete the rest. The previous limit of 30 every 72 hours was fine. I could download at my leisure without hitting the limit, but now, I am finding more than 30 videos I want to download within my 6 days of waiting that by the time I can download again, I run up to the limit within a day. I also feel this pressure that I HAVE to be on here the day my limit is up so I can actually get a chance to see the videos I want to see.

MozzerllaRick whoa no way they moved up to 6 days now?

Idk if vrbangers still does it but they did 10 downloads a day.

Vrsumo2017 Yes, VR Bangers still has 10 per day, but that's not that much of a problem for a single studio site. Only stops users from getting everything in the first month, but no big problem for regular usage. The only site I hit the limit every time is SLR.

MozzerllaRick streaming may be slow for you but couldn’t you just use it to skim through a scene to see if it’s worth downloading rather than downloading everything? Then just keep your downloads for the scenes that you really want. If your internet is too slow to stream, I’d think it would take forever to download 30 scenes.

petermc streaming on low internet connection and skipping to scene is lag - zero logic for your skip to the part logic.

You think downloading is more problem? You obviously don't have slow internet with that logic.
Downloading slow = a complete lagless scene you can watch anytime.

Download for lagless scene vs streaming for a part that has a wait time = download wins.

Obvious you have no clue what low connection on streaming is like, with shared internet.

I’m not trying to argue. I get that watching a downloaded scene with no lag is better than streaming if it keeps freezing. I just thought, if your internet connection is that bad, it would take forever to download these huge files and maybe, just doing some minimal streaming admittedly with some lagging, could allow you to weed out some scenes don’t appeal to you. This would then reduce the number of scenes that you need to download.

I’m not any kind of expert though on internet connections, you’re right.

petermc you say you're not arguing but you're baselessly putting 'lag on watching scenes', as an option - waiting 5 minutes for a stream of a bit of a scene is a buzzkill.

How many times do you watch a movie while streaming? You're saying a person watches only one time that is wrong. You download a fav movie you don't need internet connection and you keep that movie.

How is your logic about a long download for keeping a film? You only download once not 100 times or stream 100 of times.

So explain how one full download defeats streaming a fav movie 100 times internet download? Explain what happens when a movie is removed?

I Can answer these. You are making arguements that are pointless. 1 download takes a day then you keep forever - not a bad thing is it?

petermc all your doing is is pushing an agender. I signed a membership that said downloads like everyone, that joined SLR. Everyone should get a refund if downloads are further removed.

                    petermc

It really doesn't matter how slow it downloads, it's not like I am watching the download. I like to load up a download manager, in my case FDM, with the videos I want to download then go to sleep or do other stuff. The next day they are downloaded.
Streaming to check the videos out doesn't work well for me. I look at the contact sheets that show the whole scene, I don't even rely/trust the screenshots and decide from that if I want to download. Streaming on the website is no use since its just on my flat screen anyway, but the lag from waiting every time I click in a new spot on the video is painful. I don't have patience for that. I don't really see a viable way to do it in the SLR app and still come back to desktop and download without a lot of hassle. It would just take so much time to find each video, wait for it to buffer, skip ahead, wait for it to buffer, skip ahead, wait for it to buffer, etc. vs opening up 10 tabs with the days new videos that are interesting to me, checking the contact sheets, hitting download and walk away. Or lately, saving the tab open in another window until SLR lets me download again. If I am strapping on my headset to sit and watch VR videos, they need to be ready to go.

Sorry my internet sucks. My ISP says I might get Fiber in 3-4 years. So, maybe by the middle of this decade I could stream. Starlink might be an option for me sometime in the future too. But even then, I still want downloads for my porn.

Punksxc You’re totally misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not saying streaming is better than downloading, especially if you have constant lagging. That’s no way to watch a scene. I’m also not suggesting people don’t watch scenes more than once or want to keep them. I’m not part of some anti-downloading agenda, I have 10TB of VR porn downloaded on external hard drives for posterity. They’re scenes I really enjoy that I want to keep and also want to have access to if I stop subscribing to whatever site they came from.

I was simply making a suggestion to someone who, it seems to me, doesn’t just download scenes he loves, but downloads a large volume of scenes just to check them out and then deletes whatever he’s not into.

Most of us have certain likes and fetishes we look for in a scene plus we also look at visual quality, scaling, distances etc. Whilst you may not want to stream the scene in full due to lagging or other reasons, I’m saying it can be a useful tool to skim a scene and rule it out from your download list.

Just using my own preferences as an example (everyone else will have different ones). If the girl looks giant sized, I won’t like the scene and a stream will show you that within seconds so I can rule it out. Is the girl hot, am I into her? You’ll usually know that within a few minutes. Does doggy style look good? You’ll know that in a couple of minutes. All these things will likely affect whether I want to download that scene and can be checked out quickly on a stream and ruled out.

I’m not telling anyone what to do and I’m not telling anyone whether or not they should be mad about the change in download limit. That’s up to the individual.

I was simply making a suggestion that streaming is not all bad even if it lags. It can be a useful tool to very quickly check if a scene is worth a download in the first place and therefore help you download all of your favourite scenes whilst staying within the limits and save the time of downloading a load of scenes that aren’t any good. That’s how I use streaming mostly but again, it’s just a suggestion, just trying to help.

Luckily for me (or unluckily depending on how you see it) I am not a big fan of most of the stuff that gets released. It probably takes 4 months for me to download 30 scenes, not 6 days! That’s purely down to me doing a very quick quality check on streaming before deciding though. If I downloaded every scene that I just wanted to check out, it would be a lot more.

Anyway, just to repeat, I come in peace and am a staunch defender of being able to download scenes. Was just trying to make a helpful suggestion.

MozzerllaRick no worries. I wasn’t sure exactly how bad the lagging was for you and whether it was viable to use streaming to check a scene out quickly. Sounds like it’s not for you so my suggestion wouldn’t work.

petermc you wrote 'I was simply making a suggestion to someone who, it seems to me, doesn’t just download scenes he loves, but downloads a large volume of scenes just to check them out and then deletes whatever he’s not into.' - That is one guy you know but not the whole community or worth generalizing the community. Unless you ask the community that one guy doesn't represent the community so that statement is inadequate.

You wrote this 'I was simply making a suggestion that streaming is not all bad even if it lags. who stated his bad internet connection and his reasons to download - with 'no worries' to accept he has to download. I disagree with your streaming is not bad as people like MMozzerllarick exist - there are 2 types of people that use internet the bad internet connection users and the ones that don't share internet or have decent internet. If the bad internet users entered SLR and saw a disclaimer saying no downloads they would of not payed for a site - but more likely just pirate. I pay for sexlikereal cause they sold downloads not 'we are your parents' logic.

You replied to MozzerllaRick with a 'no worries' cause he has bad internet and downloading is the best solutions.

Your suggestion would be fine if people that payed SexLikeReal all had decent connections. I don't and I share internet in my household.

I say this again customers pay SexLikeReal after reading the site disclaimer about downloading, customers could anytime pirate. To alienate the downloader with bad internet does more harm than good. You say want you want but 'highlight' - rich internet connection community 'not' every internet connection community - shared internet community and low connection internet are excluded from anti download debates.

30 Vids is still fine, but less would be absolutely not okay. I have to download the Videos, 'cause my Internet is to weak for streaming. Also, why 144hrs? Why not making it 35 Vids within' 168 hrs or easier why not reset the Countdown Sitewide at the same Time? Mondays, new Week, new 35 Downloads
