Unfortunately, there are certain technical limitations that came with SteamVR that prohibit the possibility of using the Opaque passthrough room view for our passthrough purposes. We were in luck, however, when we discovered that we could exploit the second-best option, which is the Translucent passthrough mode. This is the reason why we cannot make it fully opaque for SteamVR on the current version.
Also to confirm the thought from Fenderwq, the Quests, and PICOs HMD would indeed give you full opacity when using the passthrough feature. I'll record some samples from various HMDs of how it would look like and share them later with the community π
So what's next in the quest for full opacity for SteamVR?
We are constantly on the lookout for the full opaque solution of course. There are lots of promising development that is happening in the SteamVR world, chances are there.
For example:

And a couple of others that the community had shared with us before.
Hopefully, we can nail a workable solution soon.
