  • [Updated videos] SLR Depthmaps in the making

I don’t know if this is depth map related, but if you zoom all the way in or all the way out, it becomes apparent that the video image is being distorted on the inner surface of a sphere to simulate a “zoom” rather than actually just translating the image closer or father. Would this effort also address this type of distortion from zooming? If not, I have a request to be able to zoom in an out without such distortion.

Vrsumo2017 Idk quest cannot see this file, installing from sidequest has a error "A task failed. Check the tasks screen for more info." help 🙂

This is beta version of SLR App or just for testing depthmaps effect? Can this function apply for other video?

    RTHK is depth maps demo.
Currently we generate dm for each video, working to get it automated in the player with real time rendering.

RTHK right now it's for those download videos posted above. We will feature some few streaming videos with the next update.
The focus it to make the player create depth maps on fly for every video, both downloads and streaming

When I "adb install -t test10_tilt_scale_cross.apk" it crashes the adb daemon and "adb: failed to install test10_tilt_scale_cross.apk" with or without "-t" .
I can install F-Droid, for example, just fine.

doublevr How do you generate dm for each video? What software, settings. Could you make a tutorial?

mikep3 it's all in-house stuff. if things go well we should have everything available in the player for everyone

Managed to install from a Chromebook rather than from RPi. Can't find anything relevant in either adb log or logcat. adb versions: 1.0.39 on pi and 1.0.41 on chromeb.
Very interesting approach. Heresphere seems to do it differently somehow.
IPD on my headset is set to 63mm. When I switch to mono at extreme close-ups like in Laundry it looks better.
If you are going with precalculating the depthmap, consider the LifecastVR approach. with two focus planes. Hugh Hou made one video with a close-up, it looked bad, maybe switch to 3dof there too. But the rest - vertical parallax, looking to the sides, inlining, head tilting, it is kinda solved.
I always say, tech is moved forward by the sex industry, financial gambling and edutaiment for kids. Eager to see your progress.

Finally had some time to test it, so some feedback.

Looking to the sides is works perfect, even in the edges no real problems (well besides the boarder of the image, but I guess that is hard to remove 🤣)

Tilting is also much better, I would say it takes up to 45° of tilt before the image breaks down, while it does it almost immediately without correction.

I am not so convinced about the anti crosseye/close range correction. It makes the models head look like it is at least twice your heads size.

And whatever the Autofocus setting does, it makes the image go wild, pretty much unwatchable with it enabled.

            same

            Tilting is not bad.
but, i don't know why, i also felt that the head size of the model looked bigger.

how are things progressing with this?
