  • Plz do not kill DLNA , think about adding SMB!

Spurred from the developer comment below, please do not kill dlna for deovr. I use it quite a bit and frankly dont want to have to screw around with another app for streaming. Given I am a lifetime subscriber you could tell me to kick rocks at this point since I already paid you but frankly if you do this I think it would be disappointing.

Thanks,

jay22111 Try to use XBVR, if they really plan to remove DLNA support, it will remain one of the only solution to stream locally.

I've been using it for a few months now, once I get the hang of it, it's just great.

xbvr looks neat, do you just use the default web browser if deovr axes DLNA?

jay22111 I use deovr without going through the dlna.

I never activated the dlna in the xbvr options.

I have a Q2 if Deo removes dlna I will have no options to play interactive scripts locally on it while subscribed here to the premium package which gives me 3 script downloads... Script streaming is not great here sorry.. Lots of drops.. If this happens I'll be back here looking for a refund.. Idiotic for deo to do this..

What? Please don't kick DLNA Support. That's the only way I can watch downloaded videos to my NAS with the Quest 2 from other studios that are not contained in the SLR subscription. I'm used to DeoVR / SLRapp as a really good standard player for VR content (only one player for streaming and local Network playback!) and won't go and search for an alternative.
Do you want to go towards kicking all other stuff except only SLR streaming?! That would be a really bad decision...
If SMB support is easier then I'm also ok if this will be implemented...

I don't feel bad about letting it go. Both SLR and Deo are on the way to streaming platforms. It's not a player any longer. Also we can't provide user experience we want with DLNA and similar things

Wow, that really is a middle finger to the community. I do use streaming a good bit — probably 60% of my VR consumption is streaming — especially this last year when your original content has gotten so good. But I subscribe to CVR and NA and BDK and VRB and Wankz and 18VR… and I have terabytes of other saved content that is not available to stream via SLR or anywhere else. DLNA is crucial when I wish to watch such scenes and DeoVR has always been a player of choice. This really is like you’re amputating a leg and an arm. The outcry if you do this is going to be massive. Massive.

            Please reconsider.

doublevr I don't feel bad about letting it go.

Wow that's a huge fuck you to loyal paying premium+ subs.. You know like me? Well then who do I contact to get a refund for my premium+ portion? As I will be unable to play the monthly 3 downloaded local scripts I have purchased as part of my premium package. Not all people can just stream. This is super anti consumer and your fup to get rid of a key feature advertised to be part of the premium package after purchasing a sub.. Bait and switch.

dexter313 Not all people can just stream.

Dexter makes an excellent point. I can stream where I live, but where I vacation where we have a lake house, the Internet is not fast enough to allow it. At these times I have to let a scene download for hours in order to enjoy it without halting or freezing up, and I bring a laptop, external disk with my best content and I absolutely rely on DLNA. SLRO 200 deg content only plays through DeoVR or SLR app. The other players like Skybox or Pigasus badly distort your original content. So how then are the bandwidth and speed challenged supposed to watch yours and other saved content if you remove this? Please listen to your community on this. Please think it through.

Inspite of the fact that my download speed is around 70MBPS,I always get frozen picture when I stream. The ONLY WAY I can enjoy the videos un-interupted is by DLNA with DEOVr.

argyle43 that really is a middle finger to the community

It's not. Not sure why would you put it this way. We are committed to community and I don't know anyone else so much invested in making things happen.

Yet DLNA is something that doesn't fit our vision. Not that we are against about it, it's not something we want to be a part of.

argyle43 SLRO 200 deg content only plays through DeoVR or SLR app.

Not a single player inquired about getting these meshes.

doublevr I don’t mean disrespect. If you read through both of my posts and others you’ll see why this decision will be a devastating one. I hope you’re open to hearing us, or will offer a solution. Again, how are those with bandwidth caps and slower internet speeds supposed to consume content if DLNA is removed and downloaded content cannot be accessed? How are we supposed to watch your originals that are only compatible with your proprietary players when streaming is not available or an option at all?

argyle43 That's a very good point where we have to decide if we want to pursue the innovation or making DLNA folks happy.

Kinda reminds me when Apple abandoned floopy disks, CD Roms and USB 2 ports.

To really enjoy VR you need a good headset and a good internet. We are discontinuing Cardboards for that reason as these have no chance in 2022. Also there is no other way around in the long term than look for better streaming options. I never had to use DLNA in my life.

doublevr but the difference here is that oftentimes the lifeblood of streaming, ie actual Internet, is not fast enough, not generous enough, or sometimes just not available at all. DLNA has always allowed me to get my fap on even if Comcast goes down, and Comcast often goes down!!

doublevr I never had to use DLNA in my life.

A lot of people live in areas with subpar service. You can’t expect people to just up and move. Or start picketing their local providers to revamp the infrastructure because they need a wank. Never going to work. I think you’ll be surprised how many people you’ll be impacting here.

We’ve gone beyond simple DLNA here. Now we’re talking about download ability itself. Streaming will never be a universal ability until the planet is blanketed with geosynchronous satellites providing affordable consistent and fast service. Don’t see that happening anytime soon.

doublevr We are committed to community

Obviously false if this is the future of SLR. Or your just ignorant to the importance of the dlna feature itself. You don't know how vital dlna is to Q2 and VR users who want to keep a physical copy of media they purchased through your site. DLNA on deo is the only option to play downloaded scripts and scenes on Quest 2.. Streaming does not work for everyone in all areas. People pay and were offered to sub to download a physical copy of your scene and scripts.. Especially after this giant purge and editing of content recently why wouldn't people download videos SLR might delete or alter in the future.. When I signed up the key feature that made me buy into the premium+ was the ability to download videos and keep 3 scripts monthly as described by your own terms and fup.. You can't just alter your sign on terms willy nilly and expect happy compliance from the consumer.. I didn't make a fuss or look to pursue a case for a refund when you shadily changed your sign on terms from 50 downloads in 72 hours to 30.. But I will pursue a case for breach and be refunded in full if you follow through on this. Do not drop dlna.
