Hello fellow designer I really appreciate this long and informative text! I have read it not once but three times πŸŽ–πŸŽ–πŸŽ–
All jokes aside let's go point by point.

  1. Video filters
I agree big time with you on this one, it just hasn't been a priority to really take time and figure this out. My idea is to remove those filters from the main view anyways as I don't see people switching them often (except perhaps pov). It will be figured out one day, thanks for your suggestions it will be a great help!

  2. Multiple categories
This is actually currently in dev, but all this were put aside as our backend is working on some priority features launching very soon as well as tech updates. But it's certainly coming!

  3. New/Returning studios
This is also an interesting idea, we'll think about implementation. A studio page with some info is more likely to appear soon.

  4. Notifications
Good suggestions, we'll think what we can do. First step is bringing full web notifications to the app

  5. Paid videos
SLR started as a pay per video site and after a while we launched Premium. At first some studios did not wish to join Premium scheme so we had videos available in premium and ppv and videos just for ppv. After complaints from users we now only feature videos on the site that are in premium - you can still buy them tho but if you have premium you can see all the videos on the site. The paid videos still exist for users who paid for them previously. So if you are able to see them is an oversight or a bug. Web player is currently a bit outdated as we are building a new one from scratch. Hope this helps a bit

  6. General
All good suggestions, some of them are in dev currently. You can increase the UI distance in the new update launched today (let me know, shall we make it go even more away?

  7. Local
We will also get to this at some point, currently making streaming excellent is the main priority. These are all great suggestion so I will keep them near me once we get to this.

Thank you for being a customer! We really are doing our best to make this the best experience possible, but with so many moving parts and challenges sometimes it takes a bit longer than desired πŸ™‚
πŸŽ– A medal for you for writing this, I really really appreciate it and feel free to add even more.

[deleted] what do you use and why is it better? Is there anything we should bring from that app to SLR?

I use gizmo, its got this cool feature that deo dont...

When u watching a vr scene and if u point to the time line to skip threw the scene it shows you thumbnails pics of the scene...

Really help full to scan threw and find certain positions you want real quick πŸ‘πŸ”₯πŸ₯‚

Hopefully y'all can add this to deo. πŸ₯‚πŸ‘

Im not that technically versed but I have a pimax 8kx. I use Pitool which executes steamVR when I run the SLR app that is in Pitool. SLR is the best app I have found. I wish I could use it at all of the websites where I have subscriptions. It is the only one that allows me to laydown and recenter the screen easily and adjust my view up and down on the fly etc or play local files easily. For the other sites I just have to download the movies, except for VRB, the playa app works but still isnt mapped correctly to my index controllers. SO I dont use playa either. If anyone uses pimax I sure would like to know the browser app you use. I bought a sub to POVR which looks almost identical to this site but has no app. very dissapointing. SO I have to download files and use SLR app to watch them.

vpurbano I use an 8kx as well, but FYI in case you weren't aware- with DeoVR (and I assume the SLR app), you can click on the usual "download" button on many different sites and it will stream the video, including POVR.

SLR is still the most user-friendly streaming experience by a pretty wide margin, but the above at least does the trick with most sites I've come across. I tend to watch downloaded scenes 99% of the time personally, but the above is handy from skimming through scenes to see if they're "worth" the download.

Wow--I tried Heresphere and it is amazing! Very immersive. How did they do that?

It's too complex for me to use with scripts though. I couldn't figure it out and almost downloaded a virus looking for a solution.

mebejoe Yeah, I like HereSphere a lot as well, definitely become my go-to for downloaded scenes. So many options/settings to tweak and adjust to your heart's content. I really like all the color & image adjustment options, since there's a good number of current studios that haven't quite figured out how to do any post-production and usually look extremely washed out/colorless/etc. Pretty easy to make some adjustments and end up with some more natural-looking scenes. Also the fact that it saves those settings is awesome.

Ignoring all the currently ongoing Deo issues, long term I'd love to see a more extensive set of color/exposure/etc adjustments available, especially for when streaming. Current options help but are pretty limited.

And I've never been able to figure out scripts on HereSphere either yet, not sure if that's a fully-functional thing? It's definitely got a learning curve in general.

I was using SLR up until last night and I got the new Player UI forced on me. It's unusable and if it stays. I'll find another app.

Heathenlamb I don't feel the new player UI that bad. It has potential to get tweaked in future releases to solve most actual complaints by the community. For me there are many posiitves. The timeline now shows the different sections and it's easier to find some preferred positions. And also to combine the options with the main player is not so bad as many here believe because now it doesn't occlude to much of the scene so the UI can be left open longer during playback (if stereo is on during UI visibility).
So DeoVR / SLR app is still my preferred player but I'm worried about the notice that they want to remove the DLNA local Network playback without adding SMB. So then with a Quest 2 and my NAS there will be no possibility anymore to play back local downloaded Network VR content (scenes from other studios or also any other VR downloaded video files).
If this happens then the player looses half of it's right to exist.

If DeoVR drops offline options it will be a big step back.

Honestly for me I was using DeoVR for offline viewing before I suscribed to SLR - and when I started looking at SLR streaming it was an "aha" moment that made me subscribe to SLR - the ease of access to the library.

So - if you remove the offline viewing, you will also lose the pull through userbase of like me who chose SLR because of DeoVR experience

@[deleted] DeoVR is a very useful app, but it is lacking in several functions that are essential for foreigners like myself.

DeoVR does not support multi-lingual tracts in MKV files. This option may seem like an unnecessary extravagance, but I'd bet the JAV studios on this site could benefit from the versatility of MKV submissions. MKV can include multiple language tracts as well as different subtitles. Of course, there are very few options for some languages and this type of content. However, it is possible to create one language file and then process it in a dozen different languages, for a variety of viewing audiences.

DeoVR cannot be a standard player because it has difficulties with non-standard film dimensions and 3D content. Sometimes while encoding film (like for back-up purposes from a personal collection) one accidentally encodes the black lines around 16:9 . SkyBox provides a number of options for non-standard dimensions. Of course, this probably isn't a major concern for SLR. Yet it is a requirement for a good standard player.

As @catflap says, offline viewing is essential for us poor foreigners. Internet Access at a fast speed certainly is not dependable. Often everyone from the neighborhood will be online at the same time of day, so I try to download stuff, if I can, and then upload it prior to viewing.

So SkyBox is my regular viewing software (for 3D films, cinematic releases, classics mainly) and DeoVR for VR180.

        1. I use DeoVR 95% of the time. PlayA app as an alternative should any issues arise with Deo.

        2. Suggestion to improve DeoVR / things I miss:

        3. custom timestamps, or get access to timestamps on downloaded files.

        4. model name tags. Sometimes it's a pain and timeconsuming to figure out who is who.

        5. consider having model names in filename for us who like to download movies and more easily categorize them.

        6. I love how you can delete files on DeoVR while browsing local files. That was a superb function to add. Can we get the option to move files and perhaps rename them? I find I spend a lot of time to switch between VR googles and the PC to get this job done. Would be very liberating to be able to organize my files from VR alone.

Procyon custom timestamps, or get access to timestamps on downloaded files.

Agree.I really miss the time stamps on downloaded files.

Is there anyway to use Skybox with a SLR original video? I tried DeoVR. Its just not for me. Can you rewrite the name of the file so you can see it properly in Skybox? Thanks.

kobraking the videos work on Skybox don’t they? Not sure about the very recent 8k attempts but everything else works fine for me.

petermc Thanks for the reply but it looks weird as you look at the bottom of the video. I think it comes from the fisheye. Its like the video all goes towards the center. Its "pointy" at the bottom.

kobraking I’ll have to take another look. Skybox does have a 200 degree fisheye option now so I assumed they played ok from a cursory watch.

kobraking I think it comes from the fisheye. Its like the video all goes towards the center. Its "pointy" at the bottom.

Are you using an old version of the app? Or I guess more specifically which headset are you using?

The "pointy" comment makes me think your headset just isn't displaying the fisheye properly, since this is exactly what the 190 degree scenes will look like when they're not properly displayed. Basically like some sort of weird "black hole" effect that will be on the bottom of the video, sort of puling the rest of the video into it.

justsomedude101 not sure Skybox has a 190 degree fisheye option so the 8k stuff my not display perfectly on there. I’m not sure.

I discovered how to fix it and I'm embarrassed how easy it was. Open "stereo mode" option. Then at the top pick fisheye. It plays any fisheye perfectly.
